AIBU or are we all going to be trapped in the UK from next March?

So, Ryanair and Thomas Cook are inserting clauses in their booking terms to say that if your flight abroad doesn't go ahead because of Brexit that's your problem. No doubt others will follow. If any deal is ever done, to allow planes to fly, it is bound to be a lot more expensive than it is now.

Is everyone planning many years of UK-only holidaying?

Walking, you might need to rtft too; it’s about the Open Skies Agreement - not visas.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 11/03/2018 19:48

If the UK brings in visas for Europeans, why would they not ?
If you believe EU countries dont want the Billions of tourist pounds we spend, then you have a point. I class that as likely as hell freezing over.

Oliversmumsarmy · 11/03/2018 19:49

Given we import loads wont,

I drive a German car, watch a Japanese tv and sit on a Swedish sofa. Will that mean we don't import any stuff anymore if the other countries don't want our exports or holidaymakers.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 11/03/2018 19:50

ou can’t have them both luv. It just doesn’t make sense.

You can have them both if they are the opinion of two different posters

(Although i may have missed something someone has said...it happens)

Sheasksmehowthecatsbeen · 11/03/2018 19:51

Don't call me luv.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 11/03/2018 19:52

Hmmmm
Many EU countries used to demand visas from rich non EU countries
the amount spent in the local economies of many EU countries
offset by the healthcare costs they have to recoup from the NHS

bulk brits are worth losing to lots of resorts

MimpiDreams · 11/03/2018 19:53

We are having a transitional extension until 2020/2021, so there is plenty of time to sort this out.

You do realise that this hasn't actually been agreed yet, it's still to be negotiated, and negotiations have been frozen until the UK comes up with a viable solution to the NI border?

Eltonjohnssyrup · 11/03/2018 19:54

asks, if you are snotty and sarky at me I’m not going to tiptoe around you and call you princess, luv.

Sorry i may have missed something else

How many people on here have said that flights between the EU and UK will be banned

My understanding is that these things are up for negotiation and if not done in time there may be a temporary halt to flights and therefore holidays

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 11/03/2018 19:54

I thought thats what some people are worried about

Walkingdeadfangirl · 11/03/2018 19:54

you'd think. They've already fannied about getting nowhere for a year!
Well that is a glass half empty perspective, alternatively its as valid to say negotiations have been progressing as planned. Albeit will a lot of hysteria shouting, 'the sky is falling in, the sky is falling in...'

crunchymint · 11/03/2018 19:55

I am more concerned about the loss of the E11 card. This will increase the cost of health insurance on holiday.

Sheasksmehowthecatsbeen · 11/03/2018 19:56

I don't think they are being punitive because they are following the rules of the organisation some of us have chosen to leave. We chose to leave. They are perfectly entitled to follow the rules. It's logical. They don't have to do us any favours if they don't want to.

Davros · 11/03/2018 19:56

It reminds me of the millennium bug

Talkstotrees · 11/03/2018 19:56

GSG I never called you hun. Unless you’re name changing? And you didn’t answer my question - what is wrong with hun? It is widely used where I live. You are very angry and rude.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 11/03/2018 19:57

Just have to agree to disagree with that. But it will be the EUs loss and a different countries gain if they did. There are lots of lovely countries to vacation in, the EU doesn't have a monopoly on beeches..

Sheasksmehowthecatsbeen · 11/03/2018 19:57

How about you don't call me anything, Elton?

Havanananana · 11/03/2018 19:57

@eltonjohnssyrup

Remind us all - did the EU kick the UK out, or did the UK vote to leave?

The UK leaves the EU in March 2019 and ceases to be a signatory to Open Skies and about 750 other treaties that influence daily life in the UK, and which will take years to replace or re-negotiate. Surely the Brexit campaign thought of this and surely Brexit voters considered the consequences of their vote before voting to leave the EU.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/03/2018 19:58

This is going to be such a clusterfuck.

How on Earth did it come to this, can't we stop Brexit?

It's clear it cannot be delivered without fucking up the country, surely this is clear to even the most fervent Leavers.

Bonkers.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 11/03/2018 19:58

You do realise that this hasn't actually been agreed yet, it's still to be negotiated
No both sides are agreed on a transition, they are just working out the details. No reason to panic.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/03/2018 19:59

Havana apparently we don't need any treaties or rules because that's just the eu being mean to us.

Mookatron · 11/03/2018 20:00

They don't need our tourism. We are 52 out of 741 million people. We are very badly behaved as a group on holiday. And we'll be skint after Brexit anyway.

And will people stop saying 'remoaners' and 'scaremongerers' unless they can actually provide a rational, based-on-evidence reason why we're not headed for an economic bog flush of our own making.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 11/03/2018 20:00

How many people on here have said that flights between the EU and UK will be banned Yes I agree plenty of people have said that, but saying it doesn't make it true. And of course a remainer would never be bias when spreading fear about brexit, would they.

GreenSeededGrape · 11/03/2018 20:00

Talks I am angry and fuck off to caring if I'm being rude. Calling posters on MN hun is a big faux pas and goady as you'd know if you were a regular Hmm
