To think being blonde doesn’t automatically mean you’re attractive?

I see it on here a lot. Because someone is blonde they are automatically gorgeous.

I’m not saying any other colour is better. I’m saying that certain hair colours suit different people.

I look better as a brunette, I wasn’t as attractive when I was blonde. I’m sure others have experienced this the other way around too.

I’m just getting quite tired of the whole everything needs to be light in order for anyone to be considered pretty.

This whole thread would have been more convincing if anyone had been able to link a couple of threads where someone has said that MNetters think that blondes are automatically attractive.

VladmirsPoutine · 10/03/2018 17:20

Do they really think everyone thought that, and not a particular type of western society?

I suppose that's why there isn't a particular attraction to light-skin and eyes in other areas of the world and indeed among ethnic communities? I suppose the sale of skin-lightening agents in India and many parts of Africa aren't through the roof? No? Thought not. Hmm

There's a lady who lives near me who has the most beautiful waist length wavy blonde hair. She's petite with a nice figure. Then she turns around and it's all a bit of a shock. It's like someone swapped her face with another person's face. You can't have everything.

TheSassyAssassin · 10/03/2018 17:24

I don't think being blonde automatically makes you gorgeous but it does make you stand out. I am naturally a dark brunette but am currently blonde (for the second time in my life) and it's an interesting social experiment. I haven't changed my physical features or appearance in any other way but it does change the way I am related to. And having been jet black, bright red, a pink/purple colour, as well as my original chocolate brunette to name but a few, I can say that hair colour does have an affect on someone's impression of you. I change my hair colour for me because I enjoy switching things up (& am fortunate in that I have the colouring to pretty much get away with it) but like I say, it's an interesting social experiment!

I think long blonde hair softens the features for some people and that can work quite well for them. I think it detracts from a multitude of sins

eugh, I hate that expression and I hate that ive even noticed that, but I believe it to be true. It CAN be a more flattering look than some harsher darker or shorter hairstyles, but if you are naturally very beautiful with fine features, you can get away with any hair colour or style, or even being bald etc and still be considered to be attractive in general

Andylion · 10/03/2018 17:45

Why do people (mainly women!) think it's OK to stand in front of a blonde woman, and say oh I've forgotten to do X, must have been having a blonde moment.

I know a blonde woman on Facebook who uses this phrase all the time. I just don't get it.

Branleuse · 10/03/2018 17:47

i hate it when people do that too. Must make it harder at times for blonde women to be taken seriously as intelligent women as opposed to revered for their bloody hair

Comparing lighter skinned africans or indians or anyone else to blonde blue eyed white women is pretty offensive you know. And a massive over simplification of a complex issue as well.

CatsForgotPassword · 10/03/2018 18:15

I think her point was that there’s often a forcing of European standards on women regardless of wether those women are European or not.

carryondoctor · 10/03/2018 18:55

OP - nope, you definitely don't know me IRL. Because I don't hang around with donkeys who make comments that are as stupid as yours on this thread. Not even when I used to do a lot of horse riding!

BusySittingDown · 10/03/2018 19:06

If I was a bloke I think brunette would be my “type”. I think someone like Mila Kunis would be my ideal woman.

I say that as a blonde (ish - it’s highlighted). I also seem to be invisible although yes, I got lots of attention as a teen - car horns were very annoying just as they were for my very very dark haired friend, who got just as much attention.

I think that blonde hair and brown eyes looks very striking. My friend who is a natural blonde has hazel eyes and she has 2 children with white blonde hair and brown eyes - they’re two of the most stunning children you could ever see! Not because they’re blonde but just because they’re so darn cute!

I have one child with blonde hair and blue eyes (like me) and one with brown hair and brown eyes (like DH) and they’re both equally stunning (not that I’m biased, oh no Wink) but I’m so jealous of DD2’s thick dark hair and massive chocolate button eyes.

annielouise · 10/03/2018 19:22

I haven't really picked up on this on here but have in real life with two ex BFs expressing a liking for tall, slim, blonde women that they'd seen out and about and it was like the slimness and blonde hair over-rode average or unattractive faces. They were groomed too and dressed while and that goes a long way. A friend went from brunette to dark blonde in her 40s because of grey hair and said she got a lot more second glances with the blonde hair and she wasn't conventionally attractive facially. It definitely is a 'thing' that some men like.

Not taking sides at all, but what the hell kind of comeback is as that?!?

It reminds me of the episode of friends where Mike tries to talk dirty. Grin

demirose87 · 10/03/2018 19:34

Of course it doesn't.

hmcAsWas · 10/03/2018 19:51

"Yes every single dd15 on MN has this happen to them."

Do you have some sort of axe to grind holdtight? I can tell you, its worse and more pronounced if you have the misfortune to be blonde

carryondoctor · 10/03/2018 19:54

Octavia - I don't waste decent lines on posts like the OP's, that's why Grin

kaytee87 · 10/03/2018 20:16

The reason blonde hair is seen as more attractive traditionally is because it is associated with being young (hair darkens as we get older). The same reason women wear mascara to make their eyes look bigger or blusher to make their complexion look younger.

Rainbunny · 10/03/2018 21:29

I have witnessed this phenomenon first hand. I used to work with a woman who had naturally long white-blond hair, however her features were definitely plain (I know I must sound mean or envious in some way but I swear I'm not!) She wasn't pleasant either so it was a rare event to see her without a scowl on her face. Anyway, the men in our office reacted around her as though she was a supermodel. It was surprising to see the power her blond hair had over male colleagues and admittedly it was beautiful (think Timotei commercial) and it clearly trumped her plain face and unpleasant character.

Bobbleyhat · 10/03/2018 21:47

I grew up in a country where there is hardly any white people.

They're not very appealing, their features are not what I consider attractive. No offence.

CatsForgotPassword · 10/03/2018 21:50

That’s quite racist. It’s one thing to not find a particular race attractive but your wording seems a bit off.

Bobbleyhat · 10/03/2018 21:56

It's my opinion. Like I said, I didn't grow up around it so It's not for me.

CatsForgotPassword · 10/03/2018 21:57

Who are you saying is unattractive? The white people or the non white people?

Bobbleyhat · 10/03/2018 22:05

I personally do not find white people attractive in general.

It's not a race thing, just culture. There is nothing wrong with being white, Im just not attracted to them.

CatsForgotPassword · 10/03/2018 22:10

I’m not particularly attracted to them either. Wouldn’t call a whole race ugly, just seemed harsh lol.

Bobbleyhat · 10/03/2018 22:16

I'm not saying ugly. I just don't gravitate towards them in attractiveness. I think it is cultural like I said.
