To think being blonde doesn’t automatically mean you’re attractive?

I see it on here a lot. Because someone is blonde they are automatically gorgeous.

I’m not saying any other colour is better. I’m saying that certain hair colours suit different people.

I look better as a brunette, I wasn’t as attractive when I was blonde. I’m sure others have experienced this the other way around too.

I’m just getting quite tired of the whole everything needs to be light in order for anyone to be considered pretty.

I agree but it conforms to a stereotype, it's perceived to be sexier or something

IAmLucy · 10/03/2018 16:56

I can't believe how angry people are getting over this. It's hair!

CatsForgotPassword · 10/03/2018 16:57

but that the standards of European beauty being held up as the absolute epitome of beauty universally.

Yeah, this. Tanned, blue eyed blondes! I was actually bullied as a child for having black hair and visible hair on my arms/sides of face.

Thank god I’ve always loved my colouring.

squoosh · 10/03/2018 16:57

There's a model called Emily Ratajkowski who spends a lot of time posing in her knickers in a sultry fashion. She seems to embody the current beauty zeitgeist.

Holdtightwhenyoutiptoe · 10/03/2018 17:02

I think this is a good example of someone gorgeous and actually looks better as a brunette.

Yep, I've seen more of her tits that I have my own! Grin

That's definitely seen as the desirable look du jour. I'm a world apart from that but I'm certainly not 'insulted' by it.

CatsForgotPassword · 10/03/2018 17:03

Sofia Vegara looked better with darker hair imo.

Only one person got a bit worked up.
But its not just about hair. And OP is categorically wrong, as well as fibbing.

IAmLucy · 10/03/2018 17:05

I think the woman in those two pictures look much better blonde. But it's not because it's 'oh wow she's blonde!!!' the brunette looks harsh on her that's all. Could be the makeup though

blastomama · 10/03/2018 17:05

You say that as if the notion that someone could look better as a brunette is somehow weird ? Is it yourself you are talking about in your OP? Have you heard yourself say that blondes are automatically more attractive? Because no-one else says that.

CatsForgotPassword · 10/03/2018 17:05

to be fair, I haven’t seen it on here but I’ve seen it elsewhere.

blastomama · 10/03/2018 17:06

I doubt it.

RainbowGlitterFairy · 10/03/2018 17:07

There are obviously people who prefer blondes but no, blonde isn't necessarily more attractive.

My sister and I look incredibly similar, we aren't quite identical (eyes are a slightly different shade of green) but very nearly, enough that people get us confused regularly. We are naturally blonde but both dye it and like to change it regularly. We've discovered which hair colour looks best depends very much on what we are wearing and appeals to different people. She likes men who look like they could be in a boy band, men like that tend to approach her most when she has blonde to light brown hair. I like men with long hair and leather jackets, I get more attention if my hair is either a natural looking red or black (because of the green blue eyes and ghostly pale complexion). We both like ourselves best when our hair is bright unnatural colours though, sadly work don't.

Annabelle4 · 10/03/2018 17:07

Of course it doesn't mean that a person is automatically attractive, but it is associated with glamour (Marilyn Monroe springs to mind)

Isn't all over blonde quite dated now anyway, not 'in'? I get blonde highlights and my hairdresser told me that I'm one of her only clients sticking with them. Roots, balayage (sp)? and a more natural colour of caramel/mousy brown is what's currently popular

CatsForgotPassword · 10/03/2018 17:07

Have you heard yourself say that blondes are automatically more attractive? Because no-one else says that.

People do say it. I was bullied as a child for being “dark”. I’m not even dark skinned, I’m similar to Marina and the Diamonds. Imagine how it would be for a black girl. Or a dark skinned girl of any ethnicity.

Middleoftheroad · 10/03/2018 17:10

I was a staunch brunette until middle age and white hairs kicked in.

Where once bottled brown dye was my friend for grey, it became too harsh in my 40s.

Now blonde highlights are my friend. There are other reasons for blonde that I could not have comprehended in my darker youth when dying your hair blonde to follow Pamela Anderson went against every fibre in my core.
I needed to grow up.

blastomama · 10/03/2018 17:11

No, they do not. Look at what OP actually said, not what you think she said.

some people obviously do think that blondes are more attractive than anyone else. But what OP actually said was this: Because someone is blonde they are automatically gorgeous which would mean that it's impossible to be blonde and ugly. Which nobody thinks.

You need to pay attention to what is actually the point of the argument, not the quite separate argument some people are trying ti have,

Bugjune · 10/03/2018 17:12

Cats, I just googled Marina and she is bloody gorgeous, so striking! I got bullied for having milk bottle white skin and not a tan - bullies are just aresholes that will pick on anything.

KittenBeast · 10/03/2018 17:12

Jesus christ, Mumsnet is a real hoot.
and CatsForgotPassword - Sofia Vergara would still be fucking gorgeous if she shaved her head and stuck on feathers. Damn her. It's simply not fair.

blastomama · 10/03/2018 17:14

I don't need to imagine. Why do you think I'm irritated at people going on about how everyone used to think that blonde blue eyed women were the epitome of beauty?
Do they really think everyone thought that, and not a particular type of western society?

CatsForgotPassword · 10/03/2018 17:17

Bug thank you! My skin is also quite light and people used to laugh at the contrast Confused it’s so bizarre! Bullies are arseholes.

Skin wise, I’m really impressed by how many shades companies now carry. When I was a teen, shade 1 was often light but really pink, now there are shades for people paler than me and with both warm and cool undertones. I see more dark skinned makeup too. So hopefully the world is moving on from the various acceptable versions of “tanned white woman” being the ONLY acceptable ones.

CatsForgotPassword · 10/03/2018 17:18

It’s obviously focused on the English speaking world. Of course, it’s not the norm everywhere. Nor did or does every individual think that.

Sullabylullaby · 10/03/2018 17:18

I think anyone who has lovely hair is automatically attractive to the menz. Unfortunately, I do not have lovely hair lol. And I'm not blonde either.

blastomama · 10/03/2018 17:18

Lots of the English speaking world where it was never the case.

CatsForgotPassword · 10/03/2018 17:20

I certainly felt like it growing up. I can see why the OP might.
