not AIBU but posting for traffic

I've fallen over about half an hour ago and heard my ankle crunch, can't put weight on it and in a lot of pain, taken paracetamol and got it raised but really am in unbelievable pain and think I need to go to A&E, my DP says i've just fallen over and i'm being silly but i'm not so He's gone to work.

I can't get a taxi and have no family here to call to drive me so how do I get to A&E? If I ring 111 can they arrange transport? The hospital is only a 2 minute drive from me but I can't walk Confused what is the best thing to do?
Sorry for asking here but my DP is useless and my family are all away

So if an ambulance takes you to hospital, how are you planning on getting home again? They won't arrange one for you to get home too. That will be on you.

JustVent · 09/03/2018 16:21

Call your DP’s work and tell him you need some money.

PaperdollCartoon · 09/03/2018 16:21

@SpiceRack you’re getting a hard time unfairly - do call 111 and speak to them, they can send an ambulance without you needing to call 999. Hope you’re ok Flowers

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 09/03/2018 16:21

So as long as this is paid before I order another Uber then it’s fine

how do i get to A&E?
Motoko · 09/03/2018 16:21

Lets hope while the ambulance is dealing with your maybe broken ankle someone doesn't die who actually needs it.

Oh give over! OP wasn't going to call an ambulance, it was other people on this thread who suggested it. She's phoning 111 instead. If they think she needs an ambulance, they'll send one out.

hurtmyankle · 09/03/2018 16:22

dalekdalekdalek my local hospital provides free taxis home for people who can't drive or afford transport

PaperdollCartoon · 09/03/2018 16:22

@DalekDalekDalek why are you being so bloody mean? It’s unwarranted. Do you really want her to just sit in terrible pain with a possible broken ankle till who knows when?

sirlee66 · 09/03/2018 16:22

Owch OP!!! I'd call 111, they'll be able to advise you if it's necessary to go to hospital or not and they might even suggest waiting to see if it swells etc by which time DP may be home? Hope it's not serious and your ankle is alright!!

blueskyinmarch · 09/03/2018 16:23

I guess if your DP can't drive and has no money either then it makes no difference whether he is there or not. Just call an ambulance. It is fine, honestly it is.

I watched an ambulance type programme last week where a man had called an ambulance because he had cut his hand. It wasn't really bad and he lived a short walk from the hospital. The staff attended him and sorted him out with no hint of berating him for calling an ambulance.

Huntinginthedark · 09/03/2018 16:23

JESUS
an ambulance is totally fine. You may have broken your ankle
You don’t have a car, you can’t get to the hospital
This is what the service is for! I mean honestly people.

Gammeldragz · 09/03/2018 16:24

Keep an eye on the colour and temperature of your foot (and pulse if you can find them). Ankle/leg breaks can be serious if circulation is compromised. Hope you get it looked at soon.

blastomama · 09/03/2018 16:24

OP, call 111 and see if they will send an ambulance. They may or may not, it depends on area (they would not where I live).
If you are stuck and need to get there, pm me and I will paypal you a fiver.

TheQueef · 09/03/2018 16:25

As an aside 1 Ambulance, 2 Paramedic first responders and a police car sat outside my house for four hours yesterday.
Sadly a neighbour had committed suicide so none of the response was emergency, just life and life passing.

Isadora2007 · 09/03/2018 16:25

Your DP is an arse. I can’t bekieve though that the pain was bearable while he was around but isn’t now.

However if you’ve truly gotten worse and believe it to be broken, I’d call him at work and get him to take an unpaid hour or for him to ask his employer to pay you an Uber and take it off his next pay.
Wasting £300 of the NHS’s money is very unreasonable, sorry.

italiancortado · 09/03/2018 16:25

This is ridiculous. You just ask someone to transfer you some money. It's really that simple.

Your mum? A friend? Your 'D'P?

Gammeldragz · 09/03/2018 16:25

ihopeyousteponalegopiece that's really useful information about uber. We don't have them here, but good to know.

Aridane · 09/03/2018 16:26

Hulu k

Isadora2007 · 09/03/2018 16:27

Also other options-

Knock on a neighbours door. If you’re in so much pain they’d be unlikely to say no.

Put an appeal On Facebook local pages. I’ve often helped out people in need locally even if I don’t know them.

Text a local colleague or friend or acquaintance.

Aridane · 09/03/2018 16:27

Sorry- that was supposed to be good luck!

QueenOfAccidentalDeathStares · 09/03/2018 16:28

do you neighbours you can approach?

most people wouldn't mind a request such as this, even if you don't know them well.

italiancortado · 09/03/2018 16:28

If you are stuck and need to get there, pm me and I will paypal you a fiver.

Don't be silly!

The OP can ask someone she knows to do this for her

MrsMozart · 09/03/2018 16:28

A broken ankle can cause all sorts of issues.

I hope 111 can help.

Fingers crossed it heals quickly and well.

Lifeaback · 09/03/2018 16:29

@huntinginthedark seriously? this is what the service is for have you not seen an ambulance lately? They all have a massive sticker on the side saying that they are for emergencys and life threatening situations. An injured ankle which may possibly be broken is neither an emergency or life threatening.

Wait for your 'd'p to get home or ask someone to transfer you a few quid for an uber. Don't abuse the NHS' resources

PumpkinPie2016 · 09/03/2018 16:30

Can you ask a neighbour OP? If a neighbour knocked on asking for a lift to hospital I would do it no problem even if I didn't know them well?

Hope you get sortedFlowers

NathusiusPip · 09/03/2018 16:30

I watched an ambulance type programme last week where a man had called an ambulance because he had cut his hand. It wasn't really bad and he lived a short walk from the hospital. The staff attended him and sorted him out with no hint of berating him for calling an ambulance.

Dear god in fucking heaven, THAT DOESN'T MAKE IT OK!! Angry The paramedics won't have berated him because
a) people call unnecessary ambulances all the fucking time - they'd spend most of their day angry if they got irritated by it.
b) there is a risk to the ambulance staff in 'berating' someone - they might kick off.
c) it's not their job to remonstrate with people, especially on telly.

I broke my ankle (badly!) - I called a cab, not an ambulance. I had someone with me, though - not sure what I'd have done if I'd been alone and unable to get outside and into the cab, though.

OP if you can hobble/hop to a cab, get an uber and pay later. If you are totally non weight bearing and to hop (ie jar it) would be agonising, call an ambulance. Though tbh you've still got to get to the door to let them in.

Then, ditch your fuckwit of a partner.
