not AIBU but posting for traffic

I've fallen over about half an hour ago and heard my ankle crunch, can't put weight on it and in a lot of pain, taken paracetamol and got it raised but really am in unbelievable pain and think I need to go to A&E, my DP says i've just fallen over and i'm being silly but i'm not so He's gone to work.

I can't get a taxi and have no family here to call to drive me so how do I get to A&E? If I ring 111 can they arrange transport? The hospital is only a 2 minute drive from me but I can't walk Confused what is the best thing to do?
Sorry for asking here but my DP is useless and my family are all away

Btw - if you phone 111, they tell you to go to A&E and you can’t get there because you’re not mobile, they will send an ambulance, but they don’t divert one from an emergency.

I had to phone them about 3 weeks ago, my DP was there and we have a car, just didn’t know if I could get to the car or not and I was told if I couldn’t they’d send an ambulance but it would be at least a 12 hour wait.

For full context, I’ve been having issues with my back, woke up in excruciating pain and unable to use one of my legs - I didn’t get them to send an ambulance because my DP managed to basically drag me downstairs and into the car, lol.

But they outright said that emergencies would get priority.

So if anybody is ever in the situation that they don’t think it’s quite a 999, but they also can’t get themselves to A&E - you’re not taking an ambulance off someone who needs it more.

Goodyetalso · 16/04/2022 06:18

I read your first post out to my partner (a paramedic). She instantly replied “of course she should phone for an ambulance!” Then went on to say that although there are a lot of time wasters who call an ambulance for ridiculous reasons, they are there for things like broken limbs and severe pain as well as life threatening situations and that I’m your situation an ambulance would probably be best as they could make sure that the break wasn’t made worse when you got into the ambulance and on your way to hospital which couldn’t be guaranteed in a taxi. So anyone reading this and wondering - fine to call an ambulance if you are in this situation in the future.

I’m glad you got seen quickly, OP. I hope it heals wells it must be so painful.

I'm sure op is fine as this was FOUR YEARS AGO

You'd think the sanctimonious poster who was quick to criticise a response on the thread would be observant enough to notice the date...

heckythump01 · 16/04/2022 06:36

I broke my ankle a few years ago I thought I'd sprained it but it was fractured in 3 places. I hobbled around for 3 weeks before getting it checked out.

heckythump01 · 16/04/2022 06:37

Just noticed the date......hopefully its healed by know Grin

Heronwatcher · 16/04/2022 06:37

Glad you got seen op. But yes you do need to rethink things. Your Dp doesn’t sound like he respects you and your finances sound like a mess- it is absolutely not normal or safe to have £2 for an entire weekend and not be able to afford an emergency taxi. In your position I’d either be cutting back and building up some savings or changing my job- it’s also clear that you can’t rely on your DP so you need to work on financial independence.

ZOMBIE THREAD!!!

Soresoresore · 16/04/2022 07:18

@hurtmyankle

Home now. Rang DPs work and told them he had to come home. He's feeling very guilty now but first said " the fall didn't look that bad so I thought you were fine ". He's set up the living room so everything's within reach and made me a cuppa but I do need to rethink things
I’m glad he feels bad and is FINALLY trying to be kind. He’s either a bit dim or a selfish b’stard. Only you know which!

Glad you’re sorted! I didn’t for one minute think you wanted to call 999 or for people to send you money!
You needed help with options - the ‘owe Uber a ride’ being one of the best.
BTW, phoning 111 is EXACTLY what you should have done.

Wow OP so many waste of time abd judgemental responses to your post. Thank God for friends, eh?

Glad it's sorted and DP is now being helpful.

Take care and only advice on relationship is to review everything tgat has happened throughout the relationship to see if you feel its worth working at and then decide. He may have thought you weren't that badly injured - stupid as it sounds. But if it's a pattern your relationship needs help.

Good luck xxx

How (and why) on earth do people dig up old threads and then start adding to it? It’s so weird that people do that and then other people don’t realise they’re contributing to such an old thread that’s been collecting dust for years!
Everydaydayisaschoolday · 16/04/2022 07:36

@JustVent

Taxi. It’s a two minute drive, I will cost about £3
Round here the minimum fare is £5.70. Add a couple of red lights and it's more like £8.00. Not everyone has that to spare.
bumblingbovine49 · 16/04/2022 07:46

@JustVent

I personally don’t think it’s ok when you can get a taxi.
FFS . It absolutely is ok to call an ambulance for s broken ankle in your situation . Please don't listen to people on here . Most people on MN are very weird about calling ambulances. I do think you might have to wait a really long time though ( that is the absolute disgrace, not you cling the ambulance which is fine)
