To tell friend/bride her choice in shoes is terrible

So my friend is getting married in 6 months and has just told us bridesmaids (im the MOH) that she wants us to wear converse shoes with our lovely dresses.

The shoes will look terrible with the dresses and Im dreading wearing them.

Should I say anything? And if so, what?
Or should I just suck it up?

I find converse the most comfortable shoe I have. My feet are skinny with high arches. i could live in them. Sounds like a right naff bridesmaid's outfit- poor you OP. Hope it isn't too awful.

Headofthehive55 · 08/03/2018 07:25

They are dreadful uncomfortable shoes!

SoupDragon · 08/03/2018 07:28

Cramming your feet into too small shoes is a big deal

So don’t buy shoes that are too small.

As someone with long skinny feet, I always strugggle to find ordinary shoes that fit and don’t gape at the side/top so buying wedding type shoes was always a nightmare.

Teenagerwoes · 08/03/2018 07:32

Your original post states the shoes will look terrrible with the dress, I think that’s your real issue, so yes you are being unreasonable.

Do what your friend wants, change after the pics, it’s a couple of hours of your life.

Madonnasmum · 08/03/2018 07:33

As a short arse I would look like sooooo dumpy in a dress and converse combo.
I need a heel to feel normal!
I'd hate it but guessing she wants to capture lots of Pinterest type photos. Could you ask to swap into something else after the photos.

SecondaryConfusion · 08/03/2018 07:34

Is it usual for bridesmaids to pay for their own clothing/shoes if the bride is specifying what they should get?

I’d feel cheeky telling people what they should buy to wear.

SaucyJack · 08/03/2018 07:38

Her wedding, her choice I guess.

Seconding the Dunlop suggestion tho. They look like Converse, but are meta comfortable for wide feet. Plus, they're always dirt cheap at Sports Direct.

Saracen · 08/03/2018 07:39

Well done OP; you've found the best solution.

It wasn't your place to object to the appearance of the shoes, but you do need shoes you can walk in which won't leave you in agony. Good luck tracking some down.

Lilyhatesjaz · 08/03/2018 07:40

Primark do shoes that look similar at a fraction of the price. I have really wide feet and for a one off would go for cheap shoes 2 or 3 sizes to big.

Sparkletastic · 08/03/2018 07:40

What are the dresses like that will look good with Converse?

I find Superga way more comfortable.

YANBU to not want to wear them because you find them uncomfortable.

YWBU to say they look "terrible" - that is a subjective opinion and it doesn't really matter. It's what the bride wants. I don't really understand people being upset or embarrassed by having to wear something they don't think suits them when it's obvious someone else chose it, and why.

hotelduvin · 08/03/2018 07:46

Just get some orthaheel inserts from amazon. Makes my converse wearable!

Chugalug · 08/03/2018 07:48

Me and hubby wore dm boots to our wedding😁..would not of taken kindly to a busy body suggesting an alternative

OllyBJolly · 08/03/2018 07:50

DD2 wore converse as a bridesmaid at my wedding. She looked gorgeous!

NotACleverName · 08/03/2018 07:52

I have wide feet and I’ve never had any problems wearing Converse. In fact, they’re the most comfortable shoes I own /misses point

AutumnalTed · 08/03/2018 07:52

Just be grateful they’re comfy for the whole day! But break them in first because converse are agony until then.

knottybeams · 08/03/2018 07:54

The last wedding I went to the bride wore a ballerina length dress with gorgeous sparkly stilettos for the ceremony. She changed into converse-style plimsolls after the ceremony and before I could get a closer look at the fab heels. When I was a bm, we wore cheap, bhs strap silver sandals for the ceremony, but given floor length dresses I was in slippers (matching just in case anyone got a flash of them) straight after the photos

Bodicea · 08/03/2018 07:55

I would hate this. Flat shoes with a shorter sort gives you dinner lady calves. Will look awful on the pics. See if you can get any trainer type shoes with a wedge type heel?

beboldbebluntbehonest · 08/03/2018 07:56

On your wedding day you can chose what you like but this is her wedding day so keep your opinions to yourself.

SoupDragon · 08/03/2018 07:57

Which is why OP doesn’t want to buy Converse - because they are too small. If you have wide feet, Converse are too small.

Clearly not given the wide footed people who have no problem.

LynetteScavo · 08/03/2018 08:02

Can we have a pic of these shoes please.

The OP has said they are white converse.

I think quite a few brides are wearing them for the evening do these days.

UnicornRainbowColours · 08/03/2018 08:03

My friend wore converse and said it was optional for us bridesmaids. I wore heels but a couple wore converse too.

Covered don’t fit me properly either. They are so uncomfortable

Nocabbageinmyeye · 08/03/2018 08:09

Dinner lady calves 😂

Actually a pp made a good suggestion and just buying a cheaper converse style in primark or similar, they are everywhere, definitely don't buy branded if you won't wear then again

specialsubject · 08/03/2018 08:13

Some of us think stilettos look rough as guts, it is all subjective.

Shoes that hurt are no good though. Comfy trainers - great.
