In feeling that my friend is being a bit unfair here?

I worked with someone until they left my current employer last year. We became really good friends while we worked together and I was gutted when she left, but she felt it was a good move for her. We still each other a couple of times a month and chat/message every couple of days.

The company I work for is closing down in June and I, along with everyone else, am being made redundant. I've started looking for alternative employment as my redundancy won't be much and my role is not particularly common so I feel I need to get looking asap.

I told my friend about a job that another friend told me about at a great company and that I've applied for it, I have an interview on Friday. It's perfect for me, close to home, quite a bit more money and a similar role that I'm doing now - friend agreed that it sounds right up my street and to let her know how I get on. Another colleague at work that she also keeps in touch with told me today that my friend is really unhappy in her job (she's never said anything to me, she tells me it's going great) and that she's applied for the job I told her about. Now, I know that I have no 'right' to stop her applying and I never would, but I just wish she'd have told me. She knows I need another job as I'm losing mine soon. I feel a bit let down.

Ah lovely to start reading a thread with such a horrid person in it and see that justice prevailed in the end! Well done OP!

Whocansay · 09/03/2018 19:43

If your friend wasn't there, maybe she didn't actually apply at all? The person who told you could be wrong / stirring, or friend decided against it? Maybe she is your friend after all?

Congratulations for you though!

LashingsOfHamAndGingerBeer · 09/03/2018 19:43

Bloody brilliant!

Iloveacurry · 09/03/2018 19:44

Well done great news 💐

Faith7777 · 09/03/2018 19:44

Gradually distance yourself from this one. She’s not a friend. Not to be trusted. She didn’t stop to think (and I hope this doesn’t happen) about how she’d explain getting the job. Loyalty is very important in friendship - she hasn’t got an ounce of it so run please. You can do better.

Sparklyglitter · 09/03/2018 19:44

Try not to think about it if I were you, although I would also feel hurt and I know not thinking about it, is easier said than done!!
If I were you concentrate on researching the job and company and getting yourself prepared for your interview! Whatever you do, do not tell anyone about your research especially this friend Confused of sorts!

CoraPirbright · 09/03/2018 19:47

HA! I am SO thrilled for you OP!! So stupid of your ‘friend’. She hasnt got the job and has now lost a lovely friend. Super sneaky of her given that she only knew about it through you. If it had been advertised to all and sundry then her application would have been (albeit slightly saddening) totally understandable. And if she had told you that she was unhappy in her current role and that she was also going for the new job - also fine. But her actions, and her response to you, certainly has shown her true colours....and they ain’t great. Block the bitch and move on.

Flowers and Wine in celebration for your great achievement!

Bloody marvellous news. Well done OP.

The universe can sometimes be amazing. And your new company had the decency to let you know before the weekend. Good sign of a great employer.
