Inspired by a comment on an active thread at the moment. The comment was along the lines of
"Only on mumsnet would you be advised this"

I've also seen it on a few threads where posters point out that only mumsnet would you be given this advice and never in real life.

So what advice/tips do you see mentioned on Mumsnet that you just don't think would be said in real life.

I'll start!
You can guarantee a poster will give the advice that OP needs to pack his bags and kick him out, on something really minor. They don't suggest being an adult and have a conversation first, it's straight away pack his bags and show him the door.

What other Mumsnet pearls of wisdom do we have?

Cutting out dairy does help with acne though

No it doesn't.

ShiftyMcGifty · 11/03/2018 10:13

“ I always thought they were locked because due to their size they can be a good location for junkies/dealers to hang out, sex workers to do their business, cottaging etc.”

Lots of toilets are locked for those reasons as well as non-customers accessing the facilities. You need to ask for a key to access it.

Has anyone (who doesn’t have a disability) but feels disabled toilets are inclusive ever requested access to a toilet that needs a radar key?

Cutting out dairy and wheat improves 2 skin conditions I have
"so what?
Removing wheat when you are coeliac or injecting insuline when you are diabetic works, it doesn't mean we should advise everyone to do it"

So what? Lot of people find modifying their diet helps with all sorts of conditions that are tricky to manage - it's just a suggestion of something that might help... I am really glad someone (non medical) suggested it to me because altering my diet has transformed my life.

cucaracha · 11/03/2018 10:39

Starting a healthy diet is hardly going to hurt anyone, but the fashion nonsense about wheat gluten is irritating because completely untrue. At least it pushes manufacturers to produce gluten free everything, which is good for those who really need that.

Tralalee · 11/03/2018 10:40

My dd had horrendous acne. She developed an ED because people kept telling her not to eat this and that (anything sugary, dairy, gluten). She wouldn't eat those things in front of anyone in case they judged her. It made her feel as though she was causing her acne herself because of her diet. She ended up weighing 6 stone and covered in acne. She was luckily referred to an amazing dermatologist who prescribed various drugs and told her diet had no effect on acne. It cleared up in 6 months. Four years on and no acne and a healthy weight.

orangesticker · 11/03/2018 10:43

Tralalee · 11/03/2018 10:45

If you are coeliac then you need to avoid gluten. Noone else needs to bother.

'Cutting out dairy does help with acne though'

No, it doesn't. I cannot eat dairy. I am lactose intolerant. My severe acne was entirely hormonal. NO change to diet would do FA. It went away once my periods started to decline, too.

FranticallyPeaceful · 11/03/2018 11:14

It’s fine that he killed his Mrs and kids because there must have been underlying mental health issues. A bit of understanding please guys.

FranticallyPeaceful · 11/03/2018 11:15

Get married ASAP. Doesn’t matter if you don’t even like him, lock that fucker down and take him for all he’s worth if you break up

FranticallyPeaceful · 11/03/2018 11:17

Erm, actually, men are evil and women don’t commit sexual offences nor do they commit domestic abuse. Pls take a look at me skewed stats.

PoorYorick · 11/03/2018 11:20

Surely it's the case that dairy causes acne in some people, and not others? So if you don't know the cause of yours, it makes sense to try cutting out dairy and see if it helps?

expatinscotland · 11/03/2018 11:22

Are the skin conditions acne, orange. People always suggest it for acne. Many, many cases of adult acne in females are hormonal. It's advisable to visit a doctor before cutting out an entire food group. A friend of mine fell for the acne codswallop. Except she also had hormonal acne and had compromised her bone density from using Depo as contraception for years and years before. It really wasn't a good idea for her to cut out dairy. Thankfully, she saw a dermatologist instead of taking advice online.

Tralalee · 11/03/2018 11:24

Teenage girls shouldn't be cutting out dairy.

Especially as DAIRY DOESN'T CAUSE ACNE

expatinscotland · 11/03/2018 11:25

'Surely it's the case that dairy causes acne in some people, and not others? So if you don't know the cause of yours, it makes sense to try cutting out dairy and see if it helps?'

It makes more sense to try to figure out why, particularly if you believe you have a food intolerance or allergy than cutting out a whole food group.

But 'cutting out dairy helps acne' is not a true statement.

orangesticker · 11/03/2018 11:36

If you are coeliac then you need to avoid gluten. Noone else needs to bother. Not quite, ds has been advised to avoid gluten because it might be causing a swelling reaction in his oesophagus....his GI consultant was right and DS does not have coeliac disease.

MakeMineAStrongOne · 11/03/2018 11:40

"Have you tried co-sleeping?"

Seems to be the catch-all answer for everything baby-related for some people on here. Also too many "I woke up 600 times a night for five years and I'm just fine so you should be too".

MrsGusset · 11/03/2018 15:04

OP: Desperately short of money but can't work 9-5 because my health condition means I have to frequently attend hospital appointments.

MN: How about a job on a cruise ship?

Eltonjohnssyrup · 11/03/2018 15:08

Actually one of the most frequent causes of Acne in women is PCOS. Nothing to do with dairy & much more connected to the way the body handles sugars. Cutting out dairy would only really help with cutting out lactose, so pointless if other sugars are still being eaten.

Bluelady · 11/03/2018 15:10

That really me laugh, MrsG. Thank you.

LeighaJ · 11/03/2018 15:40

coconuttella

"Op: My DH’s behaving like an idiot for forgetting my birthday!
MN: You shouldn’t say that... it’s disablist!
IRL: Yes, he was an idiot!"

Someone will also inevitably add "Your birthday is a commercial con thought up by greeting card companies and the media just to get people to buy stuff. I don't expect anyone to ever acknowledge my birthday in any form or fashion. My family saying thanks every now and then is all the appreciation I need."

Probably also...

"Grow up. You're an adult, why do you even care about your own birthday?!"

DalekDalekDalek · 11/03/2018 16:28

OP: My DP didn't get me a Mother's Day card from our children.

MN: LTB. He sounds abusive.

RL: Aw, that's rubbish. Remind him of that on Father's Day.

TrickyD · 11/03/2018 17:30

Family holidays: We love them and pay for our DS and his kids to come with us skiing and to the Caribbean as he can't afford those sort of holidays.

MN: You are infantilising your son, he should be taking them to spend a week in a wet and cold caravan somewhere in the north if that's all he can afford.

RL: I bet they all love it!

PoorYorick · 11/03/2018 18:37

There is a very strange double standard on MN whereby people who really love each other would never spend more than £2.50 on their wedding and everyone should be happy with one holiday every ten years in a mud pit. Yet every other husband is a very high earner and there is an absolute obsession with class and not being 'common'.

The weirdest example I ever saw was an OP who thought that birthday cards for specific relatives (i.e., ones with 'To a wonderful mother on her birthday'' or something like that on the front) were 'common'.

I initially assumed it was a troll taking the piss out of MN's class obsession, but there was a whole slew of respondents who agreed they would never purchase anything so tasteless and would rather receive a turd wrapped in newspaper.
