Mumsnet Vs Real life.

Inspired by a comment on an active thread at the moment. The comment was along the lines of
"Only on mumsnet would you be advised this"

I've also seen it on a few threads where posters point out that only mumsnet would you be given this advice and never in real life.

So what advice/tips do you see mentioned on Mumsnet that you just don't think would be said in real life.

I'll start!
You can guarantee a poster will give the advice that OP needs to pack his bags and kick him out, on something really minor. They don't suggest being an adult and have a conversation first, it's straight away pack his bags and show him the door.

What other Mumsnet pearls of wisdom do we have?

OP posts:
x2boys · 06/03/2018 19:28

I.know of an Astrid and a Xanthe in my very northern town so London doesnt have the monolopy of unusual names either .

Shinycat · 06/03/2018 19:31

Astrid and Xanthe sound like pathogens that are used to slowly poison someone.😬

AthenaAshton · 06/03/2018 19:40

Isthismummy: that too. Once I've failed to obtain a law pupilage and have extracted myself from the 'disabled only' loo. Grin

KERALA1 · 06/03/2018 19:42

I love the virtue signallers. Op has dealings with unpleasant random and op is then berated for not offering them an on the spot counselling session or the keys to the ops car. After all the unpleasant random may have just lost her cat or have bunions so extreme sympathy has to be shown at all times. And the op is mean not to do so - unlike the key board saints.

Also the thread where anyone that hosted a party was essentially an evil bastard out to make anxious people feel worse and even the thought that perhaps it might be nice to get a return invite after 10 years straight of hosting is utterly outrageous and unreasonable. Cue spurious reasons why posters could never let someone outside immediate family into "their sanctuary " but merrily accept hospitality for years on end.

DenPerry · 06/03/2018 19:43

Mumsnet: going on about trans all the time
Real life: never heard a sniff about it in any form anywhere.

ethelfleda · 06/03/2018 19:45

Not wearing knickers to bed Shock

AthenaAshton · 06/03/2018 19:46

^^ DenPerry that, too.

BumDisease · 06/03/2018 19:55

"Did you mean to be so rude??"

If anyone says something worthy of that response then yes, they fucking meant it, and I would cringe into next week if I ever heard anyone say those words irl.

x2boys · 06/03/2018 20:00

Definatley Den irl trans really isn't a thing I hear about on here there are several threads a day Hmm

ethelfleda · 06/03/2018 20:06

Also, MN can seemingly forgive anyone for behaving like a complete dick - scream at a woman with her child across a car park? He may be having a rough time... anyone but smokers that is. Smokers are unforgivable filthy beings on here

NotACleverName · 06/03/2018 20:12

Anyone: shows concern for minorities
MN: OMG stop virtue signalling!

That heterosexual men are willingly going to self-ID/undergo SRS because they want access to women's spaces and that transwomen want to erode women's rights.

If you're called out on your [shitty] behaviour the person doing so is gaslighting you/being abusive.

"Did you mean to be so rude" is a witty put down, capable of reducing the most belligerent arsehole to shocked silence.

DuchessofManchester · 06/03/2018 20:16

Op- I've bought my dc one small stocking present for Christmas as I don't want them growing up spoiled.... then starts their own thread on mother's day that they didn't get a Spa day, jewellery, designer handbag, meal out.

drofrub · 06/03/2018 20:20

Over the 15 years I've been on here, I've seen so many of these. But to add a few more...

Only on mnet do people think That using childcare equates to "farming your child out" and "getting someone else to raise your kids".

Only on mnet have I been told that by not giving my preschooler sweets and fizzy drinks, she would end up obese and sneaking chocolate behind my back. Note, she's now a teen, dislikes Fizzy drinks and likes chocolates, but would still happily eat carrots.

Only on mnet have I had a moan about lazy DH to be told that other women wouldn't be married to a man child, and they'd Ltb. In real life, most women sympathise and tell me what a lazy arse their husbands can be too.

Only on mnet do I find mums who have boys that do ballet and girls that do rugby. And that it's completely unreasonable to think girls are more likely to do typical 'girl hobbies' like dancing and gymnastics and boys are more likely to do 'boy hobbies' like rugby and football. In reality, I don't know any little boys that dance and only one girl who does rugby.

Icomehereseekingpeas · 06/03/2018 20:22

In real life people don't give me biscuits Grin

Thirtyrock39 · 06/03/2018 20:34

Great thread ...
Evap lines I had never heard of before MN
Fantastic rumours about celebrities
Ross from friends being the root of all evil
Everyone who starts a running thread about starting running 'only managed 7k' on first go
The trans thing though if you work in health or education is a big issue and loads of mandatory training/ policies about it so it definitely is part of real life and very hard to question aspects of it

Oblomov18 · 06/03/2018 20:38

LTB
No one smacks.
No one swears.
People earn £150K+
Pay loads into their pension
Cook from scratch, no chicken nuggets and chips.

Drainedandconfused · 06/03/2018 20:39

Being a martyr and asking the opinion of strangers on the internet whether you should make a GP appointment for yourself or leave it another couple of weeks to see if it improves/gets worse.
Or god forbid risk the wrath of most of mumsnet by entering the sacred doors of A&E even if you are hemorraging from every orifice, even then you would be asked is there a minor injuries walk in unit you could visit.

Fishinthesink · 06/03/2018 20:39

Sending your child to state school in London is basically child abuse.

Anyone without a car is constantly sponging lifts off their friends.

Oblomov18 · 06/03/2018 20:42

Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of children up and down the country are enjoying a cheese butty and a penguin

Ha ha!!

SpringHen · 06/03/2018 20:43

No one smacks
I know nobody in real life who smacks. Where the fuck do you live? The bible belt?

frasier · 06/03/2018 20:45

I don't know anyone in real life who smacks either.

ConfusedWomanInHerForties · 06/03/2018 20:49

If your husband engages in sex with you, without your written consent (in your own blood), then you've been raped.

YTho · 06/03/2018 20:50

I'm sure plenty of kids still know what a smacked bottom feels like even these days.

CavoliRiscaldati · 06/03/2018 20:58

I agree, plenty of people still smack bums when needed, and kids in RL know very well what a smacked bottom is.

PatsyClineSilVousPlait · 06/03/2018 21:10

The endless passive aggressiveness where every partner-related issue is turned into an arms race to see who can be the most unreasonable. Top marks to the posters telling the woman who missed her husband on nights he stayed at his parents to book a Travelodge one night a week.
