to beg anyone in Milton Keynes for a favour

My MIL is 82 and lives alone in Milton Keynes - four hours drive from us.

Her boiler has broken down and she has no heating or hot water. She is frail and cannot drive and she is getting very cold. I am so worried.

Please could anyone in the area possibly drop round 2x electric or oil heaters? Please PM me and I can arrange to transfer the money. Amazon Now don't cover her area.

I'm miles away but bumping for you. Have you tried some local Facebook pages?

DomesticAnarchist · 02/03/2018 14:49

A bump for you.

Has she or a neighbour tried thawing the condensate Pipe? It worked for us and several friends.

EggsEggcetera · 02/03/2018 14:50

Same here - miles away. What a lovely DIL you are x

Snowysky20009 · 02/03/2018 14:50

Bump

Wollstonecraft1 · 02/03/2018 14:51

What Kaytee said. If someone posted that in ours, people would definitely go round to help.

MayCatt · 02/03/2018 14:51

Miles away too but here's a bump for you! Good luck Flowers

helpmum2003 · 02/03/2018 14:51

Oh the poor love. I'm in Nottingham but keeping it bumped

SomeRandomBird · 02/03/2018 14:51

Thanks for the bumps, I will try a local fb page. She is waiting to hear if an engineer can come out but as you can imagine it's a very busy time

a local taxi firm here has offered to drop off anything needed by vulnerable or elderly residents, for only the cost of the goods. So if you could order it to be collected at argos or homebase or that sort of thing, then a taxi firm there might well do something similar. Or you could even pay them by credit card for the journey.

Neato · 02/03/2018 14:52

Oh no- this isn't good OP.

Perhaps try a local shopkeeper, GP surgery and see if a kind receptionist might help, or her nearest library, church, that sort of thing? Someone will be able to help am sure.

www.ageuk.org.uk/miltonkeynes/our-services/

or social services / police non emergency

I really wouldn;t be giving out the address of a frail vulnerable woman to people online - sorry

whyhastherumgone · 02/03/2018 14:54

Bumping for you OP unfortunately I am nowhere near but really hope you can find someone local to help :(

SomeRandomBird · 02/03/2018 14:54

Thanks for the ideas, I am at a loss what to do hence this post! I will try and call some local businesses

whyhastherumgone · 02/03/2018 14:54

the taxi idea that someone posted upthread might be a good suggestion OP?

FuckYouDailyMail · 02/03/2018 14:56

Try this group OP m.facebook.com/groups/251802228221892 Good luck

chocolateworshipper · 02/03/2018 14:56

Definitely post on any local FB selling pages. Lots of people with 4x4s are posting on our local pages offering to do anything to help people in the emergency services or vulnerable people.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 02/03/2018 14:57

Argos do same day delivery

PlaymobilPirate · 02/03/2018 14:57

Bumping for you. Try her local church??

Eltonjohnssyrup · 02/03/2018 14:59

Also, she will prob be classed as vulnerable so will be able to get a same day engineer

PinkBeetroot · 02/03/2018 15:08

I’m not local but hope she gets it fixed soon. Is her condensate pipe possibly frozen? She may be able to get her boiler going if she or a neighbour can reach the outside pipe and pour a jug of hot water over it.

MistyMinge · 02/03/2018 15:11

Is there a Facebook page for the particular area she's in? If so, I think posting on there would be a good idea.
