to beg anyone in Milton Keynes for a favour

My MIL is 82 and lives alone in Milton Keynes - four hours drive from us.

Her boiler has broken down and she has no heating or hot water. She is frail and cannot drive and she is getting very cold. I am so worried.

Please could anyone in the area possibly drop round 2x electric or oil heaters? Please PM me and I can arrange to transfer the money. Amazon Now don't cover her area.

There are some lovely people in the world, thank you to everyone who offered help. Happy is due to arrive there any minute.

I hope she’s lovely & toasty now!

So many people with ‘broken’ boilers just need to heat up the condensation pipe, fingers crossed happy could do that for her too while she was there.

Happy 💐

Just to update MIL is warm again thanks to happy - the heating engineer still hasn't arrived so happy may have even saved her life. Can't tell you how grateful we are that she trekked all the way across MK with her kids in tow to help out a stranger in need, what an absolute diamond ThanksThanksThanks

I’m in MK too and happy to help if she needs anything in next few days. I can understand how worried you have been.

SomeRandomBird · 02/03/2018 20:06

Aw thanks Craving and other's that have offered, it is so kind and we might need to take you up on it.

Yay for a good news story.

Great stuff! Mumsnetters get such grief sometimes!

jigsawpiece · 02/03/2018 21:09

I fixed my own condensate pipe this morning and restored our heating. Took 2 minutes. Pour some hot (not boiling) water on the pipe. Then press reset on the boiler.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 02/03/2018 21:15

Have to love MN at times like this!

Samewitches · 02/03/2018 21:19

What a lovely thread! I just feel so sad for anyone in MIL's position who have no-one who cares so much to put a call out in the first place. A timely reminder to check on our elderly/ disabled/ vulnerable neighbours.

SomeRandomBird · 02/03/2018 21:20

Top tip jigsaw - MIL's neighbour has been over to see if he can help as still no sign of heating engineer. He wasn't able to sort out the heating but confirmed the electric heater was pumping out lots of heat and she is warm which is the main thing. We will hopefully be able to get to her tomorrow so it's only one night.
Honestly don't know what she would have done without that heater.

What a lovely thread.

alphajuliet123 · 02/03/2018 21:59

You must swap numbers with a neighbour or two. Also might be an idea to give one of them a spare key in case you ever can't reach her. (speaking from experience)

Glad she is safe and warm, well done to Happy!

KenAdams · 02/03/2018 22:04

Did you have any luck?

KenAdams · 02/03/2018 22:05

Ah thread just loaded glad you managed to sort it

Willswife · 02/03/2018 22:11

Lovely thread, it's nice to be reminded sometimes that there are many many decent and kind people in this world.

Glad your MIL is warm again.

SomeRandomBird · 03/03/2018 10:26

Another update - MIL slept well and was toasty warm with the borrowed heater and her boiler has now been fixed. Hooray! Smile
Love the power of Mumsnet - We were in a such a panic, time was ticking on, couldn't arrange any deliveries and it was getting colder. Huge thanks again to Happy Thanks
