to beg anyone in Milton Keynes for a favour

SomeRandomBird · 02/03/2018 14:48

My MIL is 82 and lives alone in Milton Keynes - four hours drive from us.

Her boiler has broken down and she has no heating or hot water. She is frail and cannot drive and she is getting very cold. I am so worried.

Please could anyone in the area possibly drop round 2x electric or oil heaters? Please PM me and I can arrange to transfer the money. Amazon Now don't cover her area.

Can you order on Amazon to be delivered to her asap?

Poor lady. Wish I could help

SomeRandomBird · 02/03/2018 15:12

I just called the people on ghosty's link, they said if it was local authority they would be able to do it no problem but they haven't had the request for a private owner before so they are going to call me back. Fingers crossed.
Awaiting to be accepted on the MK Facebook page.

Have sent you a pm some

Needsomezzzz · 02/03/2018 15:14

Ask to join mumtomum mk page, if you message the admins on there they will put it out there for you. Lovely community on there x

20poppy14 · 02/03/2018 15:16

I’m an hour away and driving difficult here. Have just tried a dummy order with her local Argos &
they have heaters in stock and can deliver too, today.
Local Age UK is 01908 550700

Kirbs1979 · 02/03/2018 15:17

Is she on Crownhill?

TimeIhadaNameChange · 02/03/2018 15:17

Why don't you contact a local church? I'm sure they could find someone to help.

happytoseeyou · 02/03/2018 15:18

Hi, where about in MK is she?
I am North MK and might be able to help - PM me

babycakes1010 · 02/03/2018 15:18

I'm mk and can help when dh gets home from work

Tweetiepie1000 · 02/03/2018 15:18

Bit of a long shot but could you try some local farmers near her? They are normally pretty happy to help transport things/people with their tractors in really horrible weather.

AdoraBell · 02/03/2018 15:19

Nowhere near myself, but I hope you get something sorted for her.

Niceandwarmandhot · 02/03/2018 15:20

Could you sign her up for British Gas Homecare (you'd pay for a year's membership or something) - they come out the same day for the elderly or small children, maybe?

So sorry your MIL is in this position but you could get ripped off or as a PP said, be giving her address to an unknown otherwise. Hope you get it sorted.

Vitalogy · 02/03/2018 15:22

Has she got a gas hob, warm one room at least.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 02/03/2018 15:25

Please be very careful handing out her address to an unknown person on the internet.

You don’t know if MillyInMK is actually some lovely MNer or actually some bastard who would hurt her or rob her blind.

Please use SS, Argos, local church etc.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 02/03/2018 15:27

MNHQ would probably confirm someone is a longtime poster and probably a reasonably safe option.

HangtheblessedDJ · 02/03/2018 15:29

Try a local church. I bet someone would go.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 02/03/2018 15:30

For example I know babycakes1010 has been around a few years now, so I’d definitely trust her.

Just not some random off of Facebook.

emmaluggs · 02/03/2018 15:31

I’m in MK don’t post a lot at all but happy to share my Facebook etc. If you still need help

TopBitchoftheWitches · 02/03/2018 15:34

Does she have a combi boiler? If so her outside pipe has probably frozen (happened to us yesterday) can she (or a neighbour) boil a kettle and pour over the bottom part of the pipe, might take a few go's. Then reset the boiler.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 02/03/2018 15:34

Bump for you

Blackteadrinker77 · 02/03/2018 15:35

It won't help you now OP but when you are next there could you knock on a few neighbours doors and ask if they would be willing to be an emergency contact for such issues?

Just a phone number to give her a knock if you can't get in touch etc. I'm a few people would gladly help out.

I hope she is well. And Flowers Wine to the posters offering to help.

Toocold · 02/03/2018 15:36

I’ve tried to pm you but can’t for some reason, I’m in a village nearby but MK is pretty big and it depends where it is as people might not be able to get out, it’s snowing here again now, do you or your mil know the neighbours at all?

CuboidalSlipshoddy · 02/03/2018 15:36

Could you sign her up for British Gas Homecare

And longer-term, shouldn't a vulnerable 82 year old be signed up for something like that? When I had small children I got 'em out on Christmas Day when our boiler failed. Gave the nice man a mince pie, heating fixed a few hours after I called it in. It's not a total, total fix (I happen to know their vans are fitted with winter tyres, but they aren't 4x4s) but they prioritise vulnerable customers and do a pretty good job.

I know it's Martyn Lewis's position that you should establish a relationship with a local plumber, but there's a judgement to be made about whether that works for you. And the BG thing is the only maintenance / insurance deal we have, because heating is the one thing where "oh, I can buy another one, we'll be OK for a few days" isn't true.

It's probably the condensate pipe, mind.

babycakes1010 · 02/03/2018 15:37

I've been around a while...i don't really post much unless I'm lucky enough to be picked for product testing Grin
