Currently at center parcs in whinfell, Cumbria... supposed to be packed up and ready to leave by 10am tomorrow. We've got to get to Newcastle but major roads across have been closed today and there are statements advising only absolutely essential journeys.

Ive got a two year old and two month old and feel absolutely sick at the thought of them being on the roads in this weather.

According to the manager we have to be out because they are "fully booked" this weekend and need to prepare for the weekend guests. I completely understand but genuinely dont know what we'll do if roads are closed and we get stranded. Already tried to book into Travelodge and premier inn in penrith but seems everyone else has the same idea as no room!

Probably more of a rant than an aibu as i suppose we're not the responsibility of center parcs so in that respect i am being a bit unreasonable..

How are people going to get in though?
I know Cumbria police have advised only to drive if necessary.

Catzpyjamas · 02/03/2018 00:08

They have plenty of availability showing on their website for this weekend.

DramaAlpaca · 02/03/2018 00:08

Stay put. They will likely have availability tomorrow because new guests won't be able to travel. It's not worth compromising your safety.

tinkywinky2018 · 02/03/2018 00:09

He's talking bollocks, even if they were fully booked, which they clearly are not, hardly anyone will be travelling there tomorrow!

I just spoke to duty manager.. got to ring at 9am as they will have contingency plans in place apparently but depends on the weekend guests cancelling/re-arranging and severity of the weather. Id happily bed down in the sports hall if it meant i didnt have to take my babies out on the roads 😣

ineedamoreadultieradult · 02/03/2018 00:12

I would go and see them again in the morning, I bet they will have quite a few cancellations.

Mammyloveswine · 02/03/2018 00:16

Will see what tomorrow brings and am sure we'll find somewhere... just sat feeding the baby and panicking. Thanks everyone!

My 2 cents: Be packed and ready to leave your cabin, but make it clear that the official advice is to avoid all but essential travel and you'll be following that and so you can't leave the park until that changes. Advise the manager that if you can't leave tomorrow you'll need to stay additional nights. (But expect the park to demand you pay for them.)

Stefoscope · 02/03/2018 00:19

Good luck, I'm sure if you explain you don't expect to stay put and just have some shelter until the weather improves they can find something.

BrendasUmbrella · 02/03/2018 00:33

Show them the vacancies people have pulled up. Police have warned people not to travel around Cumbria unless they have to - the manager is an utter prick if he makes you leave in this weather.

Goldrill · 02/03/2018 00:34

Crikey - don't stress! With all the warnings for Cumbria they are going to have an awful lot of cancellations. We both work in Penrith and have not made the trip from Carlisle - no way you'd get me on the A69 or the 66 today.
If you do get totally stuck we have a spare room!

PickAChew · 02/03/2018 00:36

Under the circumstances, they're being quite arsey.

I'm expecting they'll not get your repeat custom. Even Greggs have been giving stuff away, today!

Mumsymcmumface · 02/03/2018 00:36

Plenty of rooms in Penrith.

Took me 15 seconds on google.

I presume there will be loads more of you widen the search a little

alphajuliet123 · 02/03/2018 00:37

There is plenty of availability for 1 or 2 bed accom (starring at £339 for the weekend) so I'm sure they can put you somewhere though you might have to pay. I think I'd ring guest services in the morning if I were you. Good luck and keep us posted, worse places to be stuck!

Goldrill · 02/03/2018 00:43

If you do need to find accommodation look for middle of penrith - quite a few of the villages very near are not accessible. I'd be trying North Lakes hotel first as it is definitely possible to get there.

PyongyangKipperbang · 02/03/2018 00:43

Standing in front of the manager and saying "I can ring the police for advice on travelling if you like?" will probably magically create availability for you.

Or tweet about it with #Dailymail as they would fucking LOVE a story about a naice middle class family being turfed out in the snow. CP will U-turn so fast they get wankers whiplash.

pedigreeRacer · 02/03/2018 00:49

You're being very unreasonable expecting to be "put up" as is the advice to just "stay put" and stage some kind of sit in. I'm not sure if it would be trespassing or theft but weather advice doesn't give you the right to not give up your room. The entitlement of some people is astounding!

Why have people assumed that the manager's a man?

Websites like booking.com already own these reservations. The park might well be fully booked according to their systems.

PyongyangKipperbang · 02/03/2018 00:51

pedigreeRacer

So what should the OP do then?

tinkywinky2018 · 02/03/2018 00:52

Wind your neck in. The entitlement of a mother to not want to endanger her tiny childrens lives is hardly astounding to anyone with half a brain or any heart.
There will be empty rooms, so what are you whining about trespass and theft for?

Mumsymcmumface · 02/03/2018 00:57

So what should the OP do then?

Check out once the agreed contract comes to an end. If OP can’t get home they should book a room nearby. There are loads of them online without even really trying to look.

Mammyloveswine · 02/03/2018 01:01

Thanks Tinkywinky! Im obviously not going to be refusing to vacate our accomodation, just worrying about what to do if weather is still not good and roads closed. Even the drive to Penrith is making me nervous but will probably try to stay there.

The manager is a man, actually, not that it is relevant?

Over the last two days hardly any activities or shows have been on due to staff being unable to get in (understandably so, i am in no way moaning about that!) so hoping we could stay a night even put in with another family or just in a room, or like i said camping in the sports hall!

Got to try and get some sleep, thanks for all thw replies!

OP posts:
Mammyloveswine · 02/03/2018 01:03

Hoping it'll mean there will be cancellations so we wouldn't have to attempt to drive at all is what i was meant to add about staff not even being able to get in.

We were stuck in Malta the year the volcano erupted and all air traffic in and out of Erope was grounded. The hotel gave us an extra week (yes, gave, absolutely free) as few new guests would be able to fly in.

I'm sure Centre Parcs will be the same, but if not, it seems you could just book an empty room with them.

I always tell dh to take a tea-light or two with him if he has to drive in this sort weather. You'd be surprised at how much difference having one alight if you get stuck would make.

QuestionableMouse · 02/03/2018 01:06

I know the a66 is closed. Check on aa roadwatch in the morning before you travel.

Travelodge is showing rooms for me in Penrith.
