Currently at center parcs in whinfell, Cumbria... supposed to be packed up and ready to leave by 10am tomorrow. We've got to get to Newcastle but major roads across have been closed today and there are statements advising only absolutely essential journeys.

Ive got a two year old and two month old and feel absolutely sick at the thought of them being on the roads in this weather.

According to the manager we have to be out because they are "fully booked" this weekend and need to prepare for the weekend guests. I completely understand but genuinely dont know what we'll do if roads are closed and we get stranded. Already tried to book into Travelodge and premier inn in penrith but seems everyone else has the same idea as no room!

Probably more of a rant than an aibu as i suppose we're not the responsibility of center parcs so in that respect i am being a bit unreasonable..

OP a friend of mine was caught up in snow at the end of their break at CP and the staff couldn't have been more helpful.

TheCumbrian · 02/03/2018 08:39

I live very near Penrith CP

Everyone saying the roads were fine yesterday, they maybe were during parts of the day but the problem overnight and today is that strong winds have caused the very powdery snow to drift and most of the major roads are blocked again.

The police locally are advising no travel unless lives depend on it. This is Cumbria, we are used to snow and we have had plenty this winter so for the police to say this it means things really are bad.

People trying to get to CP are going to struggle let alone anyone trying to get out.

Pugsley87 · 02/03/2018 08:41

Ja

itstimeforanamechange · 02/03/2018 08:42

All they have to do is check the locations of the guests due to arrive. If they are in a red zone eg the south west of England (generously defined as far as Southampton and into Hampshire), Scotland, or Wales, they can't travel anywhere at the moment, and therefore CP can quite safely provide their accommodation (ok they might not be coming from home, but in most cases they will be). In any event, do they really not have any spare camp beds and bedding where they can put people up until it is safe to travel?

I have only ever heard bad things about CP too. Expensive and think consumer protection laws don't apply to them.

I'm surprised that they are fully booked at this time of year, anyway.

YellowMakesMeSmile · 02/03/2018 08:47

Did you try and book an extra night or were you just planning to stay free of charge? I don't believe every hotel in the surrounding area will be be fully booked, I think you just don't want to pay for a room.

livingontheedgeee · 02/03/2018 08:51

Of course you should stay put. You can't take two young children onto the roads in those conditions. Go onto booking.com and make yourself another reservation for a couple of days.

rookiemere · 02/03/2018 08:58

Much better for CP to retain some guests even if not paying for their rooms because they are not able to drive, than have empty cabins and a PR disaster.

OP is not trying to scam a free holiday she is merely trying to protect her family and obey police traffic warnings.

GlitteryFluff · 02/03/2018 08:58

From CP update It looks like they'll sort you out now OP

rookiemere · 02/03/2018 09:00

Would everyone please stop mentioning booking.com. CP can only be booked through CP website and if you read the full thread it appears that OP will continue to be accommodated.

Outedsochanged · 02/03/2018 09:28

I realise I am being goady, but it's been known for more than a week that this bad weather was coming and we know that UK grinds to a halt in snow. At what point did people decide I'll risk not being able to get home? So they risked it, now deal with it. (I would have risked it, but wouldn't expect CP to solve it). As people have said there are other hotels nearby with space, go book one of those.

rookiemere · 02/03/2018 09:39

Rather hard for people to drive to other hotels when the roads are shut Hmm
I’ve been often to that CP the last bit of the trip is not on a major road so absolute madness for people to try to drive on it with young children- or indeed at all.

People knew snow was coming but they didn’t know how much and when. I wouldn’t cancel a holiday unless I had a cast iron guarantee that insurance would pay up for it.

NerrSnerr · 02/03/2018 09:50

@Pluckedpencil the racist surname thing was Butlins not CP.

SleepFreeZone · 02/03/2018 09:52

OP keep us updated, hope Center Parcs look after you 💐

Ahh ignore Pedigree, she ate a huge bowl of stupid for breakfast this morning, it's not her fault.

This made me 😂😂

pedigreeRacer · 02/03/2018 10:57

@Zoflorabore

Did you just wish skin cancer on me?

Nesssie · 02/03/2018 11:24

Oh look, funnily enough CP did not just chuck out and abandon its guests... Who would have thought it?

It did come across as though the OP was expecting a free stay, and asking to sleep in their sports facilities or share a room with another family is not exactly practical. I'm sure the thread ' CP made me and my children sleep in a hall' would have attracted plenty of comments....

It was U to expect CP to accommodate everybody that didn't want to leave. Perhaps they could have helped her find alternative accommodation but perhaps they were busy dealing with the hundreds of other customers with no staff?

JacquesHammer · 02/03/2018 11:27

The thing is, if you stopped doing anything when bad weather was forecast, you'd simply not do anything! It is very unusual for weather forecasts to prove correct to the absolute extent they were predicting.

But as you don't appear to have read the thread and seen that CP themselves are advising - inline with police advice - not to travel. Would have been far easier to do so wouldn't it!

FoodGloriousFud · 02/03/2018 11:31

Wow Pedigree is an absolute twat. Sod off back to your beach.

tinkywinky2018 · 02/03/2018 11:40

pedigree is on another thread calling us all Terfs. If she is on a beach in Asia it must be one fucking boring holiday to be spending all her time on mumsnet talking shit about snow and how anti-trans we all are Hmm

SleepFreeZone · 02/03/2018 11:52

Oh of course he’s somewhere screaming TERF, who’d have thunk it? 🤦🏻‍♀️

Zoflorabore · 02/03/2018 13:03

What point in my post did I mention skin cancer Pedigree ?

Jeez you really are a twat badger.

How bout a little selfie for us?!
Cheeseeeeeeeeeeeee

safariboot · 02/03/2018 13:17

Hope things are well OP.

It's good to hear that Centerparcs, along with most people on this thread, realise it's basic human decency that you don't throw out a guest into a snowstorm.

As for people saying to stay somewhere else, that'd be fine in a city or beach resort but Centerparcs are in rural areas. Nearest town is 5 miles away down a road that might not be passable.

SeniorRita · 02/03/2018 14:30

@CherryMaDeary

No judge in this country would jail a woman for having the temerity to refuse to leave and want to keep her babies out of the freezing snow.

No judge would 'jail' anyone for it, it's a civil offence.

Cupoteap · 02/03/2018 14:52

Can't imagine why the op not been back

FluffyWuffy100 · 02/03/2018 15:00

I wish I was snowed IN at centre parcs
