Currently at center parcs in whinfell, Cumbria... supposed to be packed up and ready to leave by 10am tomorrow. We've got to get to Newcastle but major roads across have been closed today and there are statements advising only absolutely essential journeys.

Ive got a two year old and two month old and feel absolutely sick at the thought of them being on the roads in this weather.

According to the manager we have to be out because they are "fully booked" this weekend and need to prepare for the weekend guests. I completely understand but genuinely dont know what we'll do if roads are closed and we get stranded. Already tried to book into Travelodge and premier inn in penrith but seems everyone else has the same idea as no room!

Probably more of a rant than an aibu as i suppose we're not the responsibility of center parcs so in that respect i am being a bit unreasonable..

I would rather say check out (or at least be prepared to) but stay on site. If if it's not safe to drive and the advice is no non-essential travel then that still applies even if it's "only 5 miles".

DalekDalekDalek · 02/03/2018 01:09

You're being very unreasonable expecting to be "put up" as is the advice to just "stay put" and stage some kind of sit in. I'm not sure if it would be trespassing or theft but weather advice doesn't give you the right to not give up your room. The entitlement of some people is astounding!

So what do you think OP should do, pick up her kids and sit in the car until the snow melts? Good idea!

It's not entitlement to expect to be allowed to stay on when the police are telling people not to travel!

pedigreeRacer · 02/03/2018 01:10

@tinkywinky2018

Why get insulting and talk about "whining"? Calm down.

Mammyloveswine · 02/03/2018 01:11

I tried to book travelodge as showed rooms but when i tried to book it was coming up as "no rooms available".

Will just have to see what tomorrow brings!

you started it love. Calm yourself down, theft and trespass indeed Hmm

Jon66 · 02/03/2018 01:25

You'll be fine, most places, including center Parcs will rise to the occasion. If they do continue to be difficult tell them you will contact the Daily Mail, that should make them stop and think . . ..

PyongyangKipperbang · 02/03/2018 01:41

Jux: what does the tea light do? How does it help?

We had a power cut a couple of years ago that meant that the heating didnt work and the heat chucked out by tealights on the coffee table in our average sized lounge was quite impressive. Wasnt warm of course, but it took itfrom freezing to bearable when under a blanket. In a car I would imagine that a couple would make a big difference.

PositiveVibes18 · 02/03/2018 01:58

People who are screeching about "Contact Daily Mail they will change their minds" really?

OP I would wait until tomorrow and check out but book another night if they still have rooms on booking.com 😊 you can't expect to stay there for free, but they can't stop you from booking again for another night.

Jux · 02/03/2018 02:25

WingedHarpy, as Pyongyang said. Some years ago there was very heavy snow round here (dh got snowed in at a friend's - dd and I found it hilarious, but he was miserable), and there were lots of cars stranded on the A303. A man from the AA was interviewed on what preventative measures could be taken if people simply had to travel in this sort of weather.

He said all the normal things like take blankets, waterproof shoes, etc, but he also said just lighting one candle in your car could be the thing that stops you freezing to death, it throws out heat (waste product of light) and in a small closed space like a car it will certainly raise the temperature by a few degrees.

Don't drive while it's alight though!

So Op if you do have to drive tomorrow, take some candles just in case.

Talkingfrog · 02/03/2018 02:30

Centreparcs own website shows availability to arrive Fri 2 and leave Monday, so unless they have released places because of cancellations the manager isn't being honest.
If you can afford it rebook and stay somewhere on site until you can check in. Complain to customer services about his attitude as soon as you can, via email or social media.

pedigreeRacer · 02/03/2018 02:45

@tinkywinky2018

Customers already on the premises of any property of which there is an assumed open invitation may become trespassers if the invitation to remain is withdrawn and they reuse to leave when asked to.

ie. trespass.

HTH

"It's not entitlement to expect to be allowed to stay on when the police are telling people not to travel!"

Yes it is. The OP cannot just refuse to leave private property because it's snowing.

Unless something changes dramatically in the next few hours you can’t get home to Newcastle anyway because all the transpennine routes are closed. Finding somewhere nearby will be cheaper than staying on at CP, Penrith has loads of accommodation and given that it’s out of season I can’t see it all being full.

kateandme · 02/03/2018 03:10

also in holiday parks/hotels etc they always keep a few spaces or lodges free In case of emergencies like faulty bits in the home or everyday things that can go wrong and do... so there shoud be a place you can stay.they never fully book.

RavenclawRealist · 02/03/2018 03:17

I guess the problem is they don't keep enough emergency/spare accommodation for everyone and if they start giving it out then where do they do when they run out? As most people are probably on the same/similar situation! If they say you have to leave and those that can do and mix in those that can't get there they are probably hoping by tomorrow it will even out! Get on to them early tomorrow and don't let up hopefully that combined with young children will make you a priority for them!

tinkywinky2018 · 02/03/2018 03:22

Safe and warm at home, aren't ye pedigree? There's no need to be a dick to someone who isn;t you know.

pedigreeRacer · 02/03/2018 03:35

"Safe and warm at home, aren't ye pedigree?"

Not at home. I'm on a beach in S.E. Asia getting some winter sun and wondering if I can be arsed to walk to the hotel room to get my Kindle.

I don't think that telling someone that refusing to leave a hotel is illegal is being a "dick". I think advising someone that they should "stay put" is stupid fucking advice.

DalekDalekDalek · 02/03/2018 03:38

What part of "the police are telling people not to travel" are you struggling with?

pedigreeRacer · 02/03/2018 03:52

None.

What part of 'deciding to stay put is trespass' are you struggling with?

Mummyoflittledragon · 02/03/2018 04:04

That’s nice for you pedigree. Good job you don’t want to get back to the U.K. atm seeing as some some airports are closed. And I’m sure you’d be oh so happy to leave your comfy hotel in Asia and sleep on the streets if need be under these circumstances because doing anything other would be criminal. Hmm

prettypaws · 02/03/2018 04:08

If they have empty spaces I certainly hope they don't "put us in with another family" if that family are full paying guests Hmm

PyongyangKipperbang · 02/03/2018 04:11

What part of 'deciding to stay put is trespass' are you struggling with?

Well for a start, the fact that it isnt considered trespass under UK law. :)

BoomBoomsCousin · 02/03/2018 04:12

Trespass isn't a crime pedigree. Whereas endangering your children is.

stolemyusername · 02/03/2018 04:15

Ahh ignore Pedigree, she ate a huge bowl of stupid for breakfast this morning, it's not her fault.
