Currently at center parcs in whinfell, Cumbria... supposed to be packed up and ready to leave by 10am tomorrow. We've got to get to Newcastle but major roads across have been closed today and there are statements advising only absolutely essential journeys.

Ive got a two year old and two month old and feel absolutely sick at the thought of them being on the roads in this weather.

According to the manager we have to be out because they are "fully booked" this weekend and need to prepare for the weekend guests. I completely understand but genuinely dont know what we'll do if roads are closed and we get stranded. Already tried to book into Travelodge and premier inn in penrith but seems everyone else has the same idea as no room!

Probably more of a rant than an aibu as i suppose we're not the responsibility of center parcs so in that respect i am being a bit unreasonable..

@PyongyangKipperbang

Yes it is.

You're not blessed with compassion are you, Pedigree? Or, you know, brains.

pedigreeRacer · 02/03/2018 04:29

Haha. The nest of vipers gets quickly riled if you point out that snow doesn't give you entitlement to trespass.

I had a lot of bowls of different things. I highly recommend Banyan Tree, Bintan. No snow to worry about and excellent breakfasts.

Pedigree
You didn’t acknowledge my comment. I’m sure if the situation arose, you’d love to be on the streets of Indonesia. Afterall that’s what you’re advocating for op. Except she’d be in a car in freezing conditions with a baby and toddler, who risk death by freezing.

Everywhereilookaround · 02/03/2018 04:53

You are not being unreasonable at all OP.
I would exit the property if asked to, but ask them for shelter due to storm. You can stay all day once you've vacated the property too. I just saw footage of centre parcs, it looks bad. I can't think many people will want to turn up in that. We've been snowed in for days, it's not worth risking your life or your kids to drive out in a storm. Most locals are very friendly and supportive, we know a thing or two about weather related emergencies here. People will want to help. Phone the local police first thing and ask them what local help there is if get stranded.good luck, hope you got some rest. Must be so worrying for you. keep us posted xx

pedigreeRacer · 02/03/2018 04:54

I didn't advocate for anything - I think people were blinded by their righteous indignation.

All I pointed out was that the OP has no right to simply stay put and refuse to leave.

Nakedavenger74 · 02/03/2018 04:56

@Laurence45 will be able to sort it. Dr ALKO SPELL CASTER works wonders with husbands (as long as your husband is a wimmin)

Everywhereilookaround · 02/03/2018 05:03

OP. 101 will get you through to local police.

Here's some emergency numbers:

Mummyoflittledragon · 02/03/2018 05:04

Pedigree
You’re telling her she can’t stay put, therefore by definition, needs to leave. Reread your posts, you’re hardly advocating for her to stay.

You still never told me what you’d do if the situation arose in your hotel in Indonesia.

So what exactly are you saying?

PyongyangKipperbang · 02/03/2018 05:06

Pedigree being unable to leave due to circumstances beyond ones control is NOT trespass.

Go back to your sunbed and your gin dear.

givemesteel · 02/03/2018 05:28

Personally I don't think CP is obliged to let you stay if there is accommodation near by, I'm sure there must be somewhere, have you checked air bnb and all the hotel sites, or just travel lodge?

I'm not sure this is DM sad face story worthy either. There will be thousands of families staying in CP right now, there will be vulnerable old or disabled people, does OP's needs trump everyone else's? Should CP turn away the people that have already travelled there to stay so they have to do more travelling in the snow?

I'm sure most people will just check out so if OP just stays put CP can't forcibly remove them. But they'll charge you for the weekend (as CP don't let you stay one night, it's either 4 nights in the week or 3 days over weekend I believe) so you'll have to pay extra at the going rate I reckon. So as long as you're prepared to do that then stay, you might as well stay the whole weekend.

Do you have an annual travel insurance policy? If so you may be able claim expenses on that if it's an Amber or red warning there.

BoomBoomsCousin · 02/03/2018 05:38

giveme, the OP hasn’t suggested her needs trump anyone’s, nor that anyone should be turned away. She’s said she’s happy with being permitted to camp out in the sports hall, so long as she doesn’t have to drive against police advice.

Bettyfood · 02/03/2018 05:46

Must be having a fantastic holiday, PedigreeChum, if your preferred activity is trolling Mumsnet.

givemesteel · 02/03/2018 05:57

Boomboom maybe, but if everyone said they needed to stay to wait out the snow then CP wouldn't be able to accommodate everyone, I don't suppose CP have got loads of sports halls free without closing facilities, which then other guests will then want compensation for.

So the only way they can accommodate OP is on the basis that most people will check out and risk the journey as well as Alot of people cancelling. I'm not saying CP shouldn't let them stay if they've got space but obviously they couldn't accommodate everyone if everyone just stayed put.

Olddear · 02/03/2018 06:13

Travelled north from Penrith yesterday. Roads were perfectly fine, lots of gritters out.

Henrysmycat · 02/03/2018 06:20

How sad to be in Bali or the “paradise” of Bangkok as edigreechum is and spend time talking bs here. Go pay someone to keep you “company” and leave us alone.

Henrysmycat · 02/03/2018 06:27

I bet my firstborn that nobody will show up today. Their own staff don’t come, nevermind someone would think, it’s a good idea to drive in red alert snow and go hole up in a cabin in the middle of nowhere. I can safely say not many would leave their comforts in such situation to go to CP.
And even here on MN, their behaviour is not a good advertisement, nevermind the DM.
I don’t need many excuses to avoid places and shitty behaviour is one of them. If I’m only being seeing a a £sign then, I’m voting with my feet.

heron98 · 02/03/2018 06:28

Well, it's not their problem is it? My parents live in Penrith and say most of the larger roads are OK. You can find alternative accommodation nearby.

nwatty · 02/03/2018 06:32

Show them stobo castles Facebook page! They are putting guests up free of charge until safe to drive

Beanteam · 02/03/2018 06:35

I would send DH to ask incomers if the roads are as a bad as they say. Could be the main roads are salted and ploughed and ok (though you still can't be sure some other vehicle won't block the road).

Closing some facilities for all guests in order to keep leaving guests safe is absolutely what they should do if there is no safe way for for the guests to leave and no other way to accommodate them. Though I would not expect many arriving guests to be turning up so that may not be necessary. It sounds, though, that CP are well aware of their ethical duty not to see customers endangered, since the duty manager told OP they will have contingency plans but what they are exactly seems to depend on how many guests cancel.
