Currently at center parcs in whinfell, Cumbria... supposed to be packed up and ready to leave by 10am tomorrow. We've got to get to Newcastle but major roads across have been closed today and there are statements advising only absolutely essential journeys.

Ive got a two year old and two month old and feel absolutely sick at the thought of them being on the roads in this weather.

According to the manager we have to be out because they are "fully booked" this weekend and need to prepare for the weekend guests. I completely understand but genuinely dont know what we'll do if roads are closed and we get stranded. Already tried to book into Travelodge and premier inn in penrith but seems everyone else has the same idea as no room!

Probably more of a rant than an aibu as i suppose we're not the responsibility of center parcs so in that respect i am being a bit unreasonable..

OP posts:

So CP have said you can't stay in your lodge, understandable, that lodge is probably booked so someone else and at this stage they won't know whether they are turning up. The show has to go on.

In the meantime they will assess the situation early today and no doubt see who can go and who can't, who is coming and who isn't, what spare accommodation they have and what they don't and where there is locally available accommodation.

Only then can they make arrangements and decisions.

Seems sensible to me.

Pluckedpencil · 02/03/2018 07:00

Every time I read a thread about CP customer service on mumsnet is another time I am put off visiting again. There was that awful racist surname thing a few months ago, and now kicking a two month baby off site on the snow in Cumbria for some guests that haven't even turned up yet. They should have cancelled people's bookings for this weekend when it is impossible to get there safely.

Theducksarenotmyfriends · 02/03/2018 07:10

If I was in SE Asia I'd have better things to do than be on mumsnet. Must be a shite holiday.

Op just see what today brings. If their staff can't even get in I doubt new guests will bother arriving so surely they'll have space for you for another night.

cdtaylornats · 02/03/2018 07:14

The manager might be worried that he wont have any staff,

ovenchips · 02/03/2018 07:17

Hope you get sorted MammyLovesWine. Police advice really is not to travel, so CP will have to have a rethink for you and others supposed to be heading out today.

Some awful posts on here. Though there are many threads of 'entitlement' on Mumsnet, not wanting to do a 100 mile drive in extremely unsafe conditions with your small children is not one of them.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 02/03/2018 07:25

I think OP is reasonable in wanting to stay. I expect they’ll have cancellations today. I would think you’ll be able to extend your booking. If you have travel insurance, check whether they might cover it.

Tottyandmarchpane1 · 02/03/2018 07:32

The overreaction on this thread (and the nastiness to pedigree or any other poster who quite sensibly does not agree with staging a sit in) is really quite revolting. CP will understandably assess in the morning. OP is understandably worried but CP cannot guarantee accommodation or what that will be until they know what staff they will have, who is turning up and the state of the roads this morning. They may we’ll have availability showing but i’d Be willing to bet they would not accept bookings for that availability at this stage. Be nice all.

fraggle84 · 02/03/2018 07:36

CP are offering people refunds or date changes so there will be empty lodges.

We’re due to stay next week so have been keeping an eye on it

Roystonv · 02/03/2018 07:37

In same area as open and should be going to Scarborough on Monday so reading for useful info. Wishing you well.

FlouncyDoves · 02/03/2018 07:38

Get your Daily Fail sad face ready, just in case. They’d love a good Centre Parcs bashing what with them removing their advertising from that paper.

fraggle84 · 02/03/2018 07:38

UPdate

AIBU to think they should put us up...
rookiemere · 02/03/2018 07:45

pluckedpencil the racist surname was nothing to do with CP - it was a caravan company but can't remember name.
Sounds like the latest update from CP shows they are treating the situation entirely correctly.

5amisnotmorning · 02/03/2018 07:46

Bloody hell. If they didn't have vacancies then yes if I was a full paying guest I would be happy for the Op to stay with me rather than face driving with small children. However I would also think it quite shoddy of CP not to offer accomodation.

mcdog · 02/03/2018 07:48

There's no way CP will chuck you out, it's not worth their naice middle class reputation.

I would stay put, I would not be attempting to drive my babies in this.

CherryMaDeary · 02/03/2018 07:50

I think advising someone that they should "stay put" is stupid fucking advice.

pedigree No judge in this country would jail a woman for having the temerity to refuse to leave and want to keep her babies out of the freezing snow.

I hope your bed gets fleas and your Kindle dies.

wowfudge · 02/03/2018 07:52

Sounds pretty standard that the manager was following normal procedures until the head office had its official advice ready. No one will be going anywhere until after the weekend if the conditions persist.

CherryMaDeary · 02/03/2018 07:54

quite sensibly does not agree with staging a sit in

Totty is another one having difficulty grasping that police said not to travel.

Try taking your condescending advice and be nice to the OP, Totty.

Snugglepiggy · 02/03/2018 07:56

Hope you stay safe and warm, and that the update posted clarifies your situation. No way would I set off with such young children in these conditions.
Some particularly unhelpful posts earlier from Indonesia amazed me. Especially as on another current thread the poster identified themselves as a 'proper' lecturer at a 'proper' university'.Surely it's university term time here ,or they doing research abroad.Into empathy and compassion I would suggest.

monkeysox · 02/03/2018 07:59

Look on centre parcs Facebook. They're advising:

Due to the extreme weather conditions overnight access to and from both Center Parcs Whinfell Forest and Longleat Forest is extremely difficult. Our teams have been working through the night to try to keep the entrance to the villages clear. However, many of the major roads around both villages are blocked.

For guests currently at Whinfell and Longleat Forest

Please remain in your lodge. A further update will be issued via Channel 6 and social media.

For guests due to arrive today Friday 2nd March

Please do not set off and please check the met office/highways agency websites for further information.

We will issue a further update at 9.30am when we have a clearer picture of the conditions and routes in and out of both villages.

Lol, that is what CP themselves have advised people to do now. So I think we all know who's fucking stupid. Loser.

RosaDeZoett · 02/03/2018 08:14

The racist surname thing was Butlins wasn't it? Was it Irish sounding surnames.....?

pedigree is no nearer a beach in Asia than I am. She's in bed because her school is closed due to snow.

OP hope you get sorted this morning.
