This is all the snow where I live and everyone’s got their knickers in a twist! Talks of possible school closures and one of the departments in my husbands work have been told to take Friday off because of the “adverse weather” 😂😂😂

Stygil- winter does NOT happen like this every year here. Don't be ridiculous. These are exceptional circumstances.

Farmerswife36 · 01/03/2018 21:48

Are you for real ? Please come to Northumberland with your smugness

Dailystuck71 · 01/03/2018 21:53

It doesn’t happen every year. We have snow in areas most years. This is an almost white out all over. We do not and never will have the resources to deal with it.

Lovemusic33 · 01/03/2018 21:53

Winter happens on a regular basis not here it doesn’t, we haven’t seen snow for 7 years so it’s hardly regular. So yes, it’s surprising that we have so much snow and in March.

LagunaBubbles · 01/03/2018 22:00

Winter happens on a regular basis and it continues to take us by surprise every year

Im sick of stupid comments like this. This is not normal weather, even for Scotland in Winter.

Dulra · 01/03/2018 22:15

mikeyssister watching bbc news and there are people stuck in cars for hours and hours none of that happened in Ireland because our government took the decision to keep people off the roads which has proven to be the right decision. Easy to say weather not too bad but take today's weather with schools traffic and rush hour traffic and it would be a completely different story

nancy75 · 01/03/2018 22:37

What rubbish, last year we had 1 snow flurry that lasted approx 10 minutes, this year our local schools are going into their 3rd day of being closed & we have quite thick snow cover, winter might happen every year but it certainly isnt the same every year

colouringinagain · 01/03/2018 22:49

There's winter and some snow, and there's this!

If you think it's all OTT then maybe just be grateful you live where you do.

In other places like Scotland, North East, East anglia there are some treacherous conditions. There are many reports across the country of deaths as a result of the cold and extreme weather.

Be careful out there!

Thank you for a very sensible observation.

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 01/03/2018 22:57

@strygil well how about you pop up to where we are and get the provisions in, if it's no big deal? No milk and no bread, two small DC in the house and nearest shop is a drive away. Being told to stay off the roads another day. I have never experienced this before, never been housebound for one day let alone three!

Plus it's actually almost spring, I think you'll find...

tinkywinky2018 · 01/03/2018 23:43

What an idiotic comment. Winter happens every year, yes, but it doesn't bring what is happening now every year, by any stretch of your clearly limitedimagination.
This is a every 40 years or so event!

cherish123 · 01/03/2018 23:48

We are in Scotland and conditions are lethal. I haven't had the car out for2 days and can't see my getting it out this weekend. Everything has grinded to a stand still. Even some pubs, restaurants and shops are shut. I guess it depends where you are.

PickAChew · 01/03/2018 23:49

3rd night in a row of very few vehicles passing. In Durham city! I hadn't even got used to the traffic noise yet after only living here 12 weeks but it's eerie!

pestilentialboundary · 01/03/2018 23:58

Honest, there is no snow in Wiltshire. The snowplough driver did not have his licence last time it snowed. I have not just helped push an ambulance up the hill.

The south is different to Scotland.

If you are not saving somebody's life or caring for vulnerable people, do not go to work. An amber warning is not a joke. Put your big coat on and help the police sort out the moronic drivers.

liz70 · 01/03/2018 23:59

"Winter happens on a regular basis and it continues to take us by surprise every year"

You're having a fucking laugh, love. To quote my own post from yesterday afternoon;

"I've lived in Scotland 22 years; never seen snow like it."

I'm in Glasgow, where usually if we get any snow it's no more than an inch or two which is washed away by rain after a couple of days. We've had winters when the temperatures have never risen above freezing - just wet and soggy the whole time. Not this time - there's about eight inches of snow out there and a bitter wind blowing. Just about every school and uni or college in Scotland is closed. This isn't standard weather by any stretch of the imagination; It's highly unusual, and so no, we're not prepared for it. We're just trying our best to stay safe.

tinkywinky2018 · 02/03/2018 00:04

This snow event has really uncovered some epic twats on MN, hasn't it?

PickAChew · 02/03/2018 00:06

Too right, tinkywinky:o

Onlyoldontheoutside · 02/03/2018 00:12

Well I've stopped worrying about work tomorrow, the schools shut midday, all the paths in the town have been gritted but the roads were becoming treacherous at about 2pm (ventured out for chocolate and more wine as it became obvious shops will be shut tomorrow).Light , nonstop snow since early this morning but now freezing and there was grit but it is now buried under the snow.
I'm a nurse, will not be able to get to work tomorrow, hope the roads will be clear Saturday.I can walk to the local community hospital so they may need help as some of their staff will not be in.
Keep safe everyone.

OJZJ · 02/03/2018 00:59

yolofish think you are a little unrealistic with just red wine in all fairness......you will need chocolate as well plus a good book!.. and maybe duct tape if you have small children interfering with the consumption of red wine and chocolate.

True story: very elderly lady in Tesco next to me yesterday actually did have a basket consisting of lager, bottle each of red&white, massive bar of chocolate, couple of crossword puzzle books.... and a pint of red top plus small load of bread- said she was preparing for being snowed in as promised!Grin I was a tad jealous tbf... ps kent no snow just COLD! So cold I had to put my winter coat on Grin

Lweji · 02/03/2018 01:03
Hmm

Where is the OP and her lack of snow?

Wingedharpy · 02/03/2018 01:08

She's digging the snow off her drive Lweji.
That'll learn her!

LinesInTheSnow · 02/03/2018 01:17

My noisy neighbours have never been so quiet.

Topseyt · 02/03/2018 02:31

OP is now snowed in, and won't admit it here, having tried to tell the rest of us how calm and collected she is and how it is all a storm in a teacup.

StripySocksAndDocs · 02/03/2018 03:11

My power's gone and it's like that film about snow (Where there burn books to keep warm) out there

All very end is nigh!!!

StripySocksAndDocs · 02/03/2018 03:11

There is supposed to be they.
