To tell everyone to calm the fuck down?

This is all the snow where I live and everyone’s got their knickers in a twist! Talks of possible school closures and one of the departments in my husbands work have been told to take Friday off because of the “adverse weather” 😂😂😂

mikeyssister same here in Scotland.
Shops close, no buses since yesterday, schools closed until Monday.

mikeyssister · 01/03/2018 16:01

But speakout do you actually have snow. Because there's feck all here. It's all about what might happen

StripySocksAndDocs · 01/03/2018 16:01

There's no snow or wind in the whole of Ireland?

LineysShanks · 01/03/2018 16:09

If you look at the broken boiler thread, you can see the real effects of the continuing cold (e.g. frozen condensate pipes) on people who are vulnerable - people having chemotherapy, older people, babies, children with respiratory problems ...

I think a lot of the faux huffing and puffing on this thread over other people's genuine worries is rather misplaced.

ItsNachoCheese · 01/03/2018 16:19

This was taken at 7am. Its snowed pretty much constantly all day so theres even more snow now. My dog is whining to go a walk then when i go to get ready he doesnt want to go out lol

There's none there YET.

Weather changes. Sometimes quickly. They have this amazing ability these days to predict the weather (mostly quite accurately) hence warnings. HTH.

StripySocksAndDocs · 01/03/2018 16:22

BTW i ask that ^ knowing that there certainly is both. Quite a lot of it where I am.

abilockhart · 01/03/2018 16:23

I often wonder how people manage to come a cropper in adverse weather which were entirely predicted.

Both MumboJumboo and mikeyssister have certainly thrown some light on this issue.

Clarissalarissa · 01/03/2018 16:28

So we should all stay at home because it may possibly snow lightly tomorrow afternoon?
I live in Scotland, and we often get snow. You can still get about. The council salts the main roads, and if necessary you drive slowly.

Clarissalarissa · 01/03/2018 16:30

I see that it's due to rain in Cornwall for the next few days. Hope they won't be keeping the schools shut because of the increased risk of skidding.

tinkywinky2018 · 01/03/2018 16:32

There saying it's "suicidal" to go out once Emma hits. It's absolute madness

Do you think they are doing it for a laugh or something? Losing millions in revenue and causing so much fuss, just for a giggle or something?

Or just maybe the people who are highly qualified to tell us this actually know something. Hmm

Cerseilannisterinthesnow · 01/03/2018 16:53

This is our back door as of 4.30, SW Scotland still getting it hellish!

A good few inches of snow here in devon and still falling. Just made it round to my mum and dad's with dd as their house is warmer. Many people I know who ventured out later than midday-ish have got stranded. It's very hilly here so cars are just sliding all around the place.

Cer,, bloody hells bells you poir thing! We have had it bad but nowhere as bad as that!

YouCantGetHereFromThere · 01/03/2018 17:26

That's going to take a wee while to melt :-)

bsbabas · 01/03/2018 17:27

Its like a foot or so here and I thought it wasn't gonna be too bad so I've run out of vodka and loo roll all the shops are shut!

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 01/03/2018 17:31

I'm in Devon too. We have 7" on our patio table, that's only about 5 hours worth of snowfall. Abandoned cars everywhere due to sliding on hills, and some serious flooding concerns in certain areas.
Any snow for you yet, OP?!

susie199 · 01/03/2018 17:31

My milkman made it and meals on wheels made it to my neighbour. When I worked as a midwife we were expected to get to work

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 01/03/2018 17:33

Wow, Cer!! That's something else! Do you still have power?

aspoonfulofyourownmedicine · 01/03/2018 17:37

Suppose it depends where you are. I'm in the North East, right on the coast. Currently we've got around 1ft of snow without the bits that's drifted, the gritters can't cope with clearing roads. Main roads are clear for now but that's it, we're expecting heavier snow fall again tonight. As for telling people to calm the f down, I think you're being unreasonable. We live on the coast, so seeing this amount of snow is unusual for us, we have 4 gritters in the borough that are out and about but still can't get the estates cleared - main roads are ok for now like I said, but whether you can get out and onto said road is a different story. My car is currently under 2ft of snow drift and hell will freeze over if I'm digging the sod out (probs will freeze quicker than usual with this weather though haha). We're also on a red warning for flooding due to tidal surges!

Our local police force and fire brigade have numerous posts requesting people to stay at home unless absolutely necessary, our schools are closed, including my work. My husband tried getting to work this morning, got stuck on a train between stations for 45 minutes before they decided to turn back to the previous station due to the weather. In my 32 years I've never known it to be this bad, 2010 we had quite a bit snowfall but it wasn't as bad as this. Lots of our roads are also closed. Thankfully, I work in a school so have time off as well as my son, which I'm grateful for, although I wouldn't be driving in this anyway if I had to go in.

aspoonfulofyourownmedicine · 01/03/2018 17:38

Wow Cers! That's some snowfall......... I definitely think you're 'snowed in'

Pliudev · 01/03/2018 17:39

I'm in SW Cornwall and the snow is coming down fast adding to what fell yesterday. Both roads into my village are impassable, extremely icy and dangerous. Can't remember anything like this in 30 years.

PortiaCastis · 01/03/2018 17:40

Little girl aged 7 killed in Looe by a skidding car

Dailystuck71 · 01/03/2018 17:46

Scotland here. Snowed in. More snow falling. No school until Monday. This is different to any usual snow we have. Gritters cannot keep up. No public transport and no food left in the local shop. Do you want me to keep going?

Gilead · 01/03/2018 17:48

This is a local road. Yes, road, not a field or a garden, a road in rural Suffolk.
