How would you feel about it?

OP posts:
Skarossinkplunger · 28/02/2018 20:33

But you seem to be insisting I was exploited?

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 28/02/2018 20:58

But you seem to be insisting I was exploited?

Why do this? You know that's not what is being said.

I'm certain everyone reading your posts is glad that you don't feel as though you were exploited. But you are not the only one with a story, and thousands - if not millions - of women will attest to the exact opposite.

To pretend that all is perfectly fine and that many, many women are not routinely being exploited and objectified is disingenuous, to say the least.

Skarossinkplunger · 28/02/2018 21:27

Shesgotbettedaviseyes

There are some (note, I did not say “all”
and I did not say “most”) sex workers who aren’t exploited

That’s a direct quote from my earlier post. Please have the decency to actually read my posts properly.

Moominfan · 28/02/2018 21:31

Juno mac sex worker and activist. Campaigns for better working conditions for sex workers. Has a really interesting ted talk on her experiences as a sex worker and how she's vulnerable due to legislation which hasnt got safety in mind

Moominfan · 28/02/2018 21:35

"Beyond the gaze" research by sex workers. Focusing on the online industry. Looks to how it's regulated and will share findings with outreach groups ect. Sex workers don't need saving or assuming that their being exploited. They need their industry decriminalised and acknowledged that sex work is work

Oh ffs.

This thread has little chance of going anywhere useful.

I'm out.

Skarossinkplunger · 28/02/2018 22:25

Don’t let the door hit your arse on the way out.

HappyStripper · 28/02/2018 23:04

Just would like to say hi to y’all as a happy sex worker, it seems that people here think I’m a bit like a unicorn... I’m a stripper and was a cam girl until I decided I preferred a strip club environment as it was more social than sitting in front of a laptop by myself (or should I say my evil gang criminal pimp made me switch?).

I started when I was at uni, granted it was Exeter, not Oxford. I knew multiple girls engaging in varying forms of sex work, none of them forced or even encouraged, all doing it as a choice. I’m also pretty sure in London and other big city unis the instances are higher simply because of the availability of strip clubs as an additional option.

Now having moved to Texas and started stripping I’ve seen an even broader crossection of us “terrible strippers”. Honestly suggesting the little Chinese man that manages the daytimes is some criminal gang boss is hilarious. There’s tons of girls from local unis, nurses, a bleach blonde using the name Trixie is doing a chemistry PhD. Though of course that’s not everyone, there’s the Mum with 4 kids who looks hot as fuck at 38, there’s a 20 year old that had a baby young but can provide for it sufficiently while only working limited daytime hours when family can provide childcare. It’s a job like any other, you don’t have to have gone to oxford or have some other justification to make you feel all special and different to “the dirty strippers” I’m one of them.

All in all, it’s not something to be disgusted, horrified or saddened by. Honestly, I don’t understand how most of y’all drag yourself to work from 9-5 every day and pick up your few quid an hour. Or how you get by without having the flexibility to decide your own schedule or switch workplaces at the drop of a pen.... Anyway, I may not understand your work situation, I just don’t call you a disgusting anti-feminist because of it.

crunchymint · 28/02/2018 23:48

Nobody is disgusted. But it does sadden me the happy hookers who pretend that everything is wonderful. I understand you need to believe that to survive. But it is not the reality.

Skarossinkplunger · 28/02/2018 23:53

Ahhh Crunchymint I thought you’d flounced but no here you are telling
people how they feel.

Seriously, is there something wrong with your understanding?

NinjagoNinja · 28/02/2018 23:59

Sorry happystripper you will never convince me that what you do is anything other than pandering to and reinforcing misogyny and the patriarchy. It's damaging to us all.

Sure, your choice, your life. I wish you wouldn't do it, I am embarrassed for you, but you have free-will are using it. I guess.

crunchymint · 01/03/2018 00:00

Not flounced, just offline. I do have a life outside of MN.

Skarossinkplunger · 01/03/2018 00:01

You said “I’m out”

I took that as a flounce.

crunchymint · 01/03/2018 00:02

That wasn't me.

crunchymint · 01/03/2018 00:05

And the sex industry exploits women. Being paid to have sex or perform sex acts for male strangers, is exploitative.

crunchymint · 01/03/2018 00:07

And I thought dwarf throwing was exploitative and wrong even though a man with restricted growth argued unsuccessfully against the courts who had banned it.

Skarossinkplunger · 01/03/2018 00:26

Apologies for the flounce comment I was mistaken.

Skarossinkplunger · 01/03/2018 00:27

Did you also think banning grid girls was a good idea?

crunchymint · 01/03/2018 00:29

Yes. And I hate the term girls being applied to women

CadyHeron · 01/03/2018 00:37

The cool mums are out in force I see. Or maybe just women who don't have daughters.

Why? If they're adults then that's their decision. Nothing to do with you if so.

Skarossinkplunger · 01/03/2018 00:38

Right. I get it.

CadyHeron · 01/03/2018 00:42

My friend did it 30 years ago and bought a house and a pub.

Really? 30 years ago? Is that a typo or just a load of rubbish? As I was about in 1988 and there was definitely no such thing as people having the internet let alone doing web cam stuff on it.

crunchymint · 01/03/2018 00:45

I suspect a load of rubbish.

catfishsally · 01/03/2018 00:54

no i wouldn't want my daughter doing it but I thought about it at a point in my life try not to judge it is hard to make a living out here
