Peak P&C space rage!

Argh. Just whipped DD up to the shops to get some nibbles for our guests who are arriving shortly. The spaces at this particular Waitrose are very tight and I'm very pregnant, so did need a P&C spot.

There was one left, so I headed for it. But nooo - some tool in a wannabe sports car zoomed the wrong way up the one way bit and parked in it (badly). Door opened and a young couple got out. No baby. No child. I assume no disabilities as there were several empty disabled spaces even nearer the shop.

I had to get DD out at the side of the car park and then park, as there was just no way I could do it in a normal space. The worst thing was, as I was struggling to do so, I saw them heading off... THEY WEREN'T EVEN GOING INTO FUCKING WAITROSE!!!!!

Am I wrong to wish the plague of a thousand traffic wardens upon their heads?

Sparkling - I only recall seeing them at supermarkets, so I wrote from that point of view, but obviously if they are in council car parks that's a different matter.

Bluelady · 24/02/2018 16:31

Car park spaces can be ludicrously tight. At our local station I have trouble getting out of the car and I'm a non lardy size 14. That, of course, is sheer greed, they've crammed in as many as possible to maximise the income from the £6 a day charge.

As a matter of interest, would anyone be prepared to pay for P&C spaces?

Spikeyball · 24/02/2018 16:36

My son is fit and can bound around. He can also lie in the road in front of a car or attack me or anyone else if he gets upset. These two may well have been taking the piss but mobility is more than about being able to walk or run.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 24/02/2018 16:36

Politely challenging people that emerge from cars isn't going to go down well surely? I can imagine some idiot drivers being really abusive.
There's no legal entitlement to priority with these spaces so the challenger doesn't have a leg to stand on. What will they do if they refuse to move? Tell the driver how disappointed they are and shake their head disapprovingly?

Anyone with a child over about 5 doesn't need a large space anyway I don't think.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 24/02/2018 16:39

Sorry Spiky* I should have said, a child over 5 with the exception of SEN or a disabled child.

Sirzy · 24/02/2018 16:45

I doubt supermarkets actually give a flying monkeys who park in the spaces, especially the shop floor staff. Someone in management (probably never near a store in life!) will have decided that it’s a good idea to make them look good and attract parents because statistics say they spend more money.

omBreROSE · 24/02/2018 16:46

Supermarkets are constantly slashing roles in management- l doubt they wil create one for P&C supervisors! Grin
You do realise when you wait / when you queue- while shopping, is mainly as they ban overtime and remove vital positions!
They will never police the car park.

Sparklingbrook · 24/02/2018 16:50

I would love to see the job advertisement for the P&C parking patrol position. Would protective clothing be provided or would you have to supply your own?
Would the pay be commission based? Grin

HotCrossBunFight · 24/02/2018 17:01

My local Tesco has someone who patrols the disabled and baby spaces

Sparklingbrook · 24/02/2018 17:02

Is it a Tesco employee or someone who did terrible things in a previous life Hot? Grin

GrannyGrissle · 24/02/2018 17:04

Waitrose are very good at bollocking P&C space hoggers just report the reg plate to customer services.

Sirzy · 24/02/2018 17:05

Probably just some random person with nothing better to do!

Sparklingbrook · 24/02/2018 17:07

You can see it now, people complaining there's not enough staff on the tills because they are all outside playing at car park attendants.

bobstersmum · 24/02/2018 17:11

When I was late teens and hadn't been drinking long I parked in a pc spot at asda, I had no need apart from it was closer, very selfish I know. Anyway a man came literally running after me to tell me to move as him and his wife needed the spot to get their child out, he was so loud and shouty that a member of staff came over to tell him to leave me alone! Looking back I was selfish and ignorant and now I'm a mum of 3 little ones it's happened to me plenty, I don't get quite as mad as that man did (or you op) but it does make me think they are selfish idiots. The thing is people without kids won't realise why you need the spot, they won't be doing it to piss you off.

PositivelyPERF · 24/02/2018 17:11

I had to leave four dogs in the car to go shopping today. I hate leaving them unsupervised. I wish they would do parking for dog owners. 😋

sits back with popcorn and waits for abuse 😈🍿

bobstersmum · 24/02/2018 17:12

Driving! Not drinking haha!

PositivelyPERF · 24/02/2018 17:13

I was wondering why you were admitting to drink driving. 😆

Whitecurrants · 24/02/2018 17:15

OP had already said that there were empty disabled bays nearly. I’m with her - they deserve to get back and find their tyres eaten by locusts (I’m pretty sure locusts can do that?)

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 24/02/2018 17:16

Maybe it's just a random person who feels very strongly about P and C spaces? Grin Vigilante patrol.

I wonder how Waitrose bollock P and C hoggers? Send them a stiff letter with their loyalty card statement? Describe the hogger over the tannoy in store to publicly humiliate them? Or put an angry note on their car?

I can't imagine how this works or why they'd do that? Confused

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 24/02/2018 17:21

Bobsters the fact that the man in your situation was shouting and angry puts him in the wrong. No need for that, even if there was no baby in sight --and you were just getting started on your drinking?!

Sparklingbrook · 24/02/2018 17:22

I would be very surprised to see Waitrose staff 'bollock' anybody at all. They are all unfailingly polite and unflappable from what I have seen.

beepthemeep · 24/02/2018 17:25

I hope you're right, ILOST. Certainly I've never seen anything as blatantly shit as I did today! Hence my wishing the traffic wardens on them. Maybe not now. Maybe not tomorrow. But soon!

@PositivelyPERF
In Austria we have women only parking spaces in most multi storey car parks. Closest to the exit so women don't have to walk alone through the car park late at night.

So maybe one day if you are lucky...

PositivelyPERF · 24/02/2018 18:11

That would never work here, Situp, I’m not physically strong enough to take on all the TRAs in dresses that would take them over. 😆

Clevs · 24/02/2018 18:26

I always park at the furthest end of the car park because I’m precious about my car and don’t want any dings or scratches on it. However, at 37 weeks pregnant, if it’s a small car park or full of cars, what are people’s thoughts on parking in the Parent & Child spaces so I can get my bump out of the car more easily without my door hitting the car next to mine? I don’t have any other children to justify using the spaces. Just wondering if the ‘child’ part of the space includes an unborn child?!
