to ask for trans threads to stay in Feminism?

Just that, really. This isn't meant to start a debate, or be goady in any way. I've just hidden the Feminism board to avoid the trans threads but they're seeping into AIBU (like this one I suppose Grin) and other places too and I'm trying to avoid them! Can we keep trans threads in Feminism please? TIA

@DarthArts
Yes.
To every single word.

Melamin · 23/02/2018 21:28

YABVU

One thing that self ID and the current Gender Reassignment Act will not affect:

Primogeniture

That's right!

No woman will ever be able to become a man and inherit the family pile and title. That will go to the first born male. Whatever. Hmm

SilverTurtles · 23/02/2018 21:29

And by anyone, I mean...
Anyone more than some very intelligent and great mumsnetters who are being pushed into a neatly hidden topic, a few MPs who've had their jobs threatened over it (or been suspended) and some fab transsexual activists. Has anyone with real power NOT endorsed the horseshit that is self ID?
I'd love to know, because so far I see no one I can cast my vote for in the next election and as someone who's voted in every single one since the early 80's that makes me very very sad. I abhor political apathy but now I'm politically homeless.
Daisy thank you Flowers
I stand with women but let me tell you I've never actually been degraded or hurt by a woman for being transsexual.... speaks for itself in some regards... I hope I've never frightened anyone, either, in kind. But I fear that women who recognise I'm not a biological woman may now be scared of me because of the recent shitstorm that is self ID. And that bothers me a great deal more than transphobia does (and I mean actual transphobia, not women opening their mouths or daring to admit to having a vagina or something)...

What about the Catholic Church? Are trans people going to be able to join convents or become priests? I bet they don’t allow that.

Bluelady · 23/02/2018 21:32

It doesn't. Primogeniture was thrown on the fire some time ago. That's why Princess Charlotte is fourth in line to the throne. If you're going to chuck in a red herring, at least get your facts straight.

gingergenius · 23/02/2018 21:32

@SilverTurtles I voted labour for the first time ever last time.

Won't do it again, but equally don't want to vote Tory either.

I feel politically lost.

Efrig · 23/02/2018 21:33

I can’t vote again either. This is the last straw.

SilverTurtles · 23/02/2018 21:33

Me too ginger, though it wasn't my first time voting labour I suspect it will be my last and I could never vote Tory.

Bluelady · 23/02/2018 21:35

Same here, effectively disenfranchised.

Efrig · 23/02/2018 21:39

We’re rapidly heading back to where we started then aren’t we? Any doubters? Read the thread about being shouted at by a man in the street.

soapboxqueen · 23/02/2018 21:40

@Bluelady I thought the change in the law regarding princess Charlotte's place in the line of succession was for the throne only, not for other titles.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 23/02/2018 21:40

hat's why Princess Charlotte is fourth in line to the throne. If you're going to chuck in a red herring, at least get your facts straight.

My understanding is that it has been changed for the royal family only

Would be interested in a link to anything to the contrary

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 23/02/2018 21:41

Oooh crosspost soap

Bluelady · 23/02/2018 21:42

Change in law affected everyone. Nothing to do with trans and self I'd though.

Efrig · 23/02/2018 21:42

I don’t think the primogeniture question has been decided yet. I expect it will only benefit the men though. Let’s see what knots they tie themselves up in trying to figure it out.

grasspigeons · 23/02/2018 21:44

bluelady - I think the law changes were specifically about royal succession and marriage, rather than other estates. I'm not sure they were impacted

Bluelady · 23/02/2018 21:45

Sorry, you're all right and I'm wrong. Wish i wasn't though!

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 23/02/2018 21:46

I agree blue

Takes the piss

PencilsInSpace · 23/02/2018 21:47

Bluelady - Primogeniture was thrown on the fire some time ago.

No. In terms of royal succession you're correct, but every other hereditary title continues to be passed down through male descendents. Some have vast tracts of land attached. 92 of them still sit in the HoL.

There's a specific exemption in the GRA that prevents transmen from inheriting these titles. Nobody seems bothered by this shocking transphobia Hmm

gingergenius · 23/02/2018 21:50

Sets a massive precedent though doesn't it?!?

Melamin · 23/02/2018 21:53

Sorry, you're all right and I'm wrong. Wish i wasn't though!

Absolutely

Melamin · 23/02/2018 21:57

Some of those titles are older than the royal family and more powerful. They are the ones who put them there (or took them off)

DarthArts · 23/02/2018 21:59

@yawning801

Kudos to you for your response ThanksWineGin

You're definitely not being U for that Grin

DarthArts · 23/02/2018 22:07

This pretty much sums up the TRA attitude and why so many women and members of the Trans community find their dogma so disturbing.

I could post many thousands of comments like this....

to ask for trans threads to stay in Feminism?
SilverTurtles · 23/02/2018 22:10

DarthArts
Please don't, darth. I think I might kill myself by bashing my head on the wall repeatedly. Grin
Oh the stupidity
