Has anyone got it? Is it worth the money?

OP posts:

Oh look, here are the asshats who come on threads about iPhones purely to slag them off. Hey guess what, I know hardly anyone with an android phone and the ones who did have them changed back to iPhones as soon as they could. I tried an android phone for a month and it was shit, couldn’t wait to get rid.

Now, having got that out of the way OP, yes I have a X (I have it in a case so no one knows I have one btw, as that appears to be worrying some people here Hmm). I’m really pleased with it, don’t miss the home button or Touch ID at all and it feels like a decent jump up from the 7 plus that I had before. I use my phone a lot, for everything and the cost is worth it to me. For someone less wedded to theirs then maybe not. Only you know how much you’d use it. If you get a 7 or 8 you’d still be doing pretty well.

Worieddd · 23/02/2018 12:07

I don’t get all the I work in technology or I work in a phone shop so I know better.

Really? Isn’t it about personal preference?

PiffIeandWiffIe · 23/02/2018 12:10

not so I can tell people I have an iPhone surely that mentality stops when you leave school

You'd think, but then look at all the saddos in the queue everytime they roll a "new" (for Apple) one out.

Apple are great at marketing & Apple users always think they're at the cutting edge - whilst Android users just shake their heads indulgently....

italiancortado · 23/02/2018 12:12

I do wonder why you think people are 'saddos' based on their choice of handset. Is your grasp of reality really that loose?

PiffIeandWiffIe · 23/02/2018 12:25

You misunderstand, I think they're saddos because they're so desperate to get the latest shiny toy that they'll queue for hours in all weathers to do so - it's purely for the "look what I've got factor" otherwise they'd just order them online like normal people.....

Klobuchar · 23/02/2018 12:27

Why is it “look what I’ve got”? Why can’t it be “I would like something for myself when it comes out”?

Not everyone lives their lives to show off

Nishky · 23/02/2018 12:36

Not sure it is just Apple products that people queue for!

Again. If you think people are 'saddos' for buying themselves an iPhone then your grasp of reality isn't right.

I'm baffled by the idea that people who shop I store rather than online are not 'normal' Literally thousands of people shop instores. Every. Single. Day.

What an absolutely batshit way to try and slate someone with an iPhone Confused

bridgetoc · 23/02/2018 13:26

It's worth that amount if your willing to pay for it. I'm not willing to pay for it because I'm not stupid.

Read the real reviews. There are Samsung phones that are a few years old that are as good or better than The X.........

Don't be one of those Apple fanboy mugs.Grin

Stupid?

I'm not stupid.

Klobuchar · 23/02/2018 13:30

I’m willing to pay for it. It was literally £8 more a month than my iphone7, why would I not? I don’t give two fucks what anyone else thinks about it. How about we acknowledge that people choose to spend their money on different things and know what makes them happy?

StrangeAndUnusual · 23/02/2018 13:32

I LOVE my iPhone x. It connects to my hearing aids through bluetooth so that I can listen to music/sudiobooks/podcasts for the first time (so do earlier iPhones, but as far as I know no other phone company works with hearing aid manufacturers to do this!)

And I love facial id, I rarely have to type in a password.

Also love the screen quality and battery life.

Very expensive, but worth it to me.

Ragwort · 23/02/2018 13:37

How can you get proper 'training' on how to use an iPhone (or any mobile for that matter Grin) - everyone I ask just says 'oh it's easy, so intuitive' - I don't think it is. If you don't know what the phone is capable of then you don't know what to ask IYSWIM. I was generously given an iPad last year but can barely use it Blush. Even my teenage DS is bored trying to explain how to use it.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 23/02/2018 13:41

You may not be stupid but you’re making yourself sound like an absolute dickhead.

Preferring one particular item to another doesn’t make someone stupid. I know I can buy a Samsung that’s as good as my iPhone for a lower price but I don’t want to. I want the phone that I find easier to use, connects with my iPad and is, for me, more user friendly. That doesn’t make me stupid, that makes me a grown woman who’s entitled to spend her money on what she wants.

WeAllHaveWings · 23/02/2018 13:41

My sister is a boring anti iPhone preacher too, for all the same repetitive reasons above. I personally think someone who negatively criticises someone’s technical or financial knowledge due to their preferred phone choice has much bigger and more serious personality ishoos than an iPhone user.

Its best to let them get it out their system, let them feel superior and just ignore. They are totally unaware of how they add no value to the conversation and how their critical cliche statements are more a reflection of their ishoos than an iPhone users perceived failings.

DinaCaliente · 23/02/2018 13:43

I'm due an upgrade soon. I pay £32 a month for my iphone SE, but the jump up in contract prices for the newer iphones are mad.

I got the SE because it was small, I had a Note 4 before that and that was just too huge.

I'm drawn to the Google Pixel 2 at £33 per month. Seen one in action and it looks brilliant.

I actually prefer Android to iOS. iMessage is the only benefit I find with having an iphone. I like how customisable Androids are.

hmcAsWas · 23/02/2018 13:55

My iPhone recently died and dh offered to get a replacement for me in his lunch break. It was assumed I would just get another iPhone - was planning on the 8 but there wasn't one available in the shop he visited (they were awaiting delivery). He knows I hate to be without a phone - even for a day or so - so he bought a Vodafone V8 smart for me (£170) as a stop gap. He thought I could use that for a couple of days whilst waiting to replace with an iPhone (and then the V8 smart could have a separate SIM card and be our 'family back up phone' for those annoying occasions when your phone is off having its screen repaired / has just developed a fault etc).

Sorry long story - the point of which is that I have decided to stick with the V8 Smartphone. Initially I didn't find it as simple and intuitive to use since I have been using iPhones for aeons, but a week in I seem to have the hang of it and it pretty much does what the iPhone does for a fraction of the price and without the built in obsolescence.

My eldest has an iPhone X and thinks its 'amaaaaazing' but she is a teenager and more swayed by image than anything else

I get the sense that people are starting to move away from iPhone because they resent being ripped off?

hmcAsWas · 23/02/2018 13:58

"My eldest has an iPhone X and thinks its 'amaaaaazing' but she is a teenager and more swayed by image than anything else"

Before anyone bridles at that - I am not suggesting that is why all iPhone users choose iPhone, just that this is an important part of the evaluation for her as an image conscious teen; having the 'right' phone

Lovelyusername · 23/02/2018 14:00

Thing is if you have iPhones and a Mac then each new phone just become the old one, plus all photos backed up to the cloud and not hacked. Do Samsung etc do that? I don’t know as never used one, but I love that about iPhones. No need to worry about losing photos or anything.

Efrig · 23/02/2018 14:01

I’m autistic and have a poor concentration span, so I like the iPhones because they’re very intuitive and there’s not too many choices. I’m intelligent and not tech phobic at all, but I found the android system too fussy and complicated.

I wish people weren’t nasty to apple users. I know some of the models are overpriced, but I need to upgrade this year - my 6+ battery life is shot - and I’m interested to find out if the 8+ would be suitable for me. Wading through paragraphs of contempt towards Apple users isn’t useful.

soloula · 23/02/2018 14:14

I'm so out of touch with technology. I thought OP had put a kiss at the end of her post title. Off to google the iPhone x now!

SandyDenny · 23/02/2018 15:59

Lovelyusername - I'm no phone expert but how is Googlephotos any different to what you're saying about photo back up. I'm fairly new to android but haven't lost any photos when I changed my phone - is that what you mean.

When I changed to android it wasn't hard at all to get used to it, which bits do people find complicated?

Lovelyusername · 23/02/2018 16:15

SandyDenny - probably not any different. I just like the iPhone way of doing it.

Dragonglass · 23/02/2018 16:28

I have only ever had android phones and currently have the Samsung S8 which I love. Never having used an iPhone, I find these sorts of threads baffling. What is so different between ios and andriod? Surley they do pretty much the same things. I can't work out how an iPhone can be easier to use than an andriod.
