Has anyone got it? Is it worth the money?

I personally find iPhones very zappy to use and I really like that.

But I don’t for a second think it means that anyone who doesn’t is somehow thick! Where on earth did that come from Shock

It’s just partly about what you’re used to and personal choice.

Anyway on the back of this thread, I’ve decided to go for iPhone 8, I’ve learned some people actually think I have an iPhone so I can call people and tell them I have an iPhone and that I’m thick! Confused

I’m due an upgrade and my iPhone is on its last legs. I really want to make the leap to android. My husband has and he can do all sorts of stuff with his phone that I can’t (like control the tv and music thing that mine makes a meal of and expand the storage). But my work phone is android and I just can’t work it. Too used to an iPhone.

So yes, any recommendations for andriod phones would be good. My work on is a LG and I wonder if it’s just a shit phone

overskyandshire · 23/02/2018 07:27

Flomper, I can assure you I haven’t got a phone as a status symbol Hmm

At any rate, all the IT people in my workplace have iPhones. But the point is, does it really matter? I’m clearly asking about the iPhone X, fine to say, actually, I don’t like iPhones, have you considered this - another thing entirely to say ‘well obviously you just want a status symbol.’

I mean, do people who buy expensive cars want a status symbol? How about holidays, clothes, shoes?

Sometimes you pay more because you like it!

Nishky · 23/02/2018 07:28

Yes oversky, and we are deluded when we think we prefer iPhones apparently Grin

RainbowDash09 · 23/02/2018 07:29

I was going to say, I like my Apple products and used to upgrade to most of the big releases but the X lost me on the price. Not enough changes to justify.

Then I had this realisation I don’t know what model of phone I have 😂 goes to show how little they all differ

falang · 23/02/2018 07:32

I love my iPhone. Currently have the 7. Can't think think of anything better that an x could do other than a hopefully better camera. But one thing that stops me changing is not being able to transfer all the apps and music I've paid for over to an Android. Unless anyone knows that this is actually possible.

LifeBeginsAtGin · 23/02/2018 07:38

I'm such a technophobe....I have no idea what anyone is talking about Sad

Nishky · 23/02/2018 07:39

It’s a while since I had my Android so I can’t remember what I did about apps. I know I used things like calendar and contacts on both iPad and Samsung by linking them through Google.

As I had an iPad I obviously didn’t lose the apps I had.

rachrach2 · 23/02/2018 07:39

I have a work one too so can't comment on the price but I do LOVE it. The camera is great (and I love portrait mode which I think is also on 8+) and Face ID works really well for me. I like how it logs me into sites as well as my phone. The screen is also lovely to use - my husband's looks rubbish now compared to this.

Don't miss the home button at all. I have always had a personal iPhone and work android before and don't get on with the android well. I will stick with an iPhone!

creamcheeseandlox · 23/02/2018 07:41

Apple are going to stop selling the x soon apparently as they didn't sell nearly as many as they thought they would...they need to start looking at their prices then they'd see why. The google pixel 2 is meant to be a great phone.

Flomper · 23/02/2018 07:42

yeah theyve got a lot more similar its true. I recently got my 75 year old mother an android and i noticed theyve made the initial setup a lot more intuitive, more like the iPhone. Shes loving it and not having any problems using it.

And to all the peiple that repkied to my comment all huffy, what does it matttterrr, i can have what I wanttttttt etc. I didnt say Android phones were better and that people weho had iphones were thick, I was responding to a previous poster who asked about Android phones. HmmConfusedShock etc etc

Why ask if you dont want opinions? They are 2 phone operating systems, both v good, each serve a different market, get whichever one you want!

overskyandshire · 23/02/2018 07:44

Flomper if you really don’t understand why responding to a PPs polite enquiry about androids with ‘well I can use it but I’m not thick’ is fucking rude, then stick to your technology!

I have an X too - really like it. Like facial recognition as can switch it on without taking off gloves etc, battery last for ages and the camera is great. DH now changing his phone to an X as he likes mine so much

Flomper · 23/02/2018 07:49

dont be so rude, I didnt say that. Somebody else asked why people liked Android and I responded. The bit thats annoyed you is becuase i pointed out that many people buy Iphones as status symbols, which they do, because theyre more expensive for less features - which is the definition of a ststus symbol.

hotcrossbunsandtea · 23/02/2018 08:00

Blimey, so many rude and grumpy people on this thread today!

I have an iPhone SE which I love. I upgraded last summer and didn't want a big screen - just something small but powerful and that I could use to surf the net on my lunch breaks, check my online banking and not get frustrated with!

I'm not bothered about the lack of customisation or the fact that I can't control the TV from my phone. I wanted something that was quick to use and did what it said on the box, which the SE does.

I've used Android before - not a fan of the interface or how the apps work, but my mum has one and loves it.

Personal preference is a wonderful thing!

Lovelyusername · 23/02/2018 08:06

Love my phone. The thing I love about it most is that it only shows me the text of messages, everyone else just see ‘message from’. But when I look at the Face ID shows me the text.

Sad hey? But I love that it knows me!

Generally it is good and the camera is great, which is the reason I bought it

Klobuchar · 23/02/2018 08:07

I’m on the Apple upgrade plan so got one automatically. I pay $56 a month for mine, plus $40 for unlimited calls and data from t-mobile. What’s the price in the UK?

Nishky · 23/02/2018 08:10

FEWER features Flomper. Fewer.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 23/02/2018 08:11

I briefly used an IPhone X. It feels beautiful, looks beautiful and is a real pleasure to use but I was so scared of dropping it and smashing it to smithereens and it just wasn’t THAT much better to warrant the price.

I have a 7 plus which is ace so I’d highly recommend the 8 plus instead of the X.

Btw, you’re always going to get the boring idiots who wine about what you spend your own money on...when buying the 7 plus I had a thread about wether to get the plus or not and I mentioned I was buying it outright and fuck me, you’d be thought I said I was stabbing a puppy in the eye with the outrage. It’s utterly dull

Thedogsmells · 23/02/2018 08:19

I'm a big fan of apple in terms of computing, but phone wise waaaaayyyy prefer Android. Look at the OnePlus range, they are so good.

A friend has the X and loves it. His wife has an equivalent Samsung though and he does feel a little ripped off as hers was way cheaper but has same screen, does just as much just as well type thing.

That said, I have the Moto 4G with fingerprint ID etc bought for 150 outright and it is brilliant.

RibenaMonsoon · 23/02/2018 08:26

I work in the mobile phone industry. There is so much choice out there now it does become a little overwhelming. I personally use Samsung and I love it. The layout seems to be a little more intuitive than the rest of the androids but it really is a personal preference. I don't find them more difficult to use than iPhone, actually the opposite but then I'm used to android. People use their phones for different things (as well as calling and texting). Certain aspects of each phone suit different people depending on your needs and personal taste.

IPhone wise I don't feel that the price tag justifies what the phone can do as so many androids do the same thing for a fraction of the cost but it's still a good quality phone. I'd definitely go for the 8 over the X though.

I’ve just got the iPhone X, joined the iPhone upgrade program. So far I really like it, don’t miss the home button and the battery life is brilliant. Doesn’t need charging during the day at all, unlike the iPhone 6 I had.

I’ve had an iPhone for years and wouldn’t want to go to Android now. Just personal preference.

JenniferYellowHat1980 · 23/02/2018 10:22

But Samsung cameras blow iPhone out of the water right? My cousin has one and her pics are crystal clear. I think mine are fine until I see hers.

italiancortado · 23/02/2018 11:52

But Samsung cameras blow iPhone out of the water right?

Not at all. Look at the technical specifications.

midnightmisssuki · 23/02/2018 11:58

the X is AMAZING! I would recommend it to anyone but agree its expensive.
