tights ... Aibu to think they are a torture device?

So I have recently returned to work after my littlest started nursery . I'm struggling with being in grown up clothes for the office but the worst part is tights !
Why can't I find decent opaques that don't ride down around the waist?
What causes them to bloody roll down anyway? It's driving m crazy and I look like Nora batty by lunch ..... please tell me
why this is happening - and/ recommend me. some that won't do that......

Sounds as though they're the wrong size - probably too big!

I can't really recommend anything though - sorry - I'm still trying to find my holy grail, tights that stay up but don't cut me in half!

For this reason I tend to wear hold ups, sooo comfy (and I justify the slightly higher expense with the fact I only have to throw half a pair away if one ladders...). Sainsbury's own brand are good.

I'll be watching with interest...

And even when they do stay up they're so uncomfortable around the crotch. Can't stand them.

I only wear dresses or skirts when it's summertime and can go bare-legged. The rest of the year I'm in trousers or jeans.
Perhaps you could try an expensive brand like Wolford? People seem to like them, there must be a reason....

I feel your pain, I hate tights too! I find wearing a layer of pants, tights, then pants again a good way to keep them from falling down is quite successful.

But a lifesaver if you get chub rub.

I love tights. I never wear them but love being held in. You do need to pull them up to your armpits though! DH thinks I look ridiculous.

Hate tights. But my m&s once aren't too bad.

I like to buy a size up, so that the waist band comes right up to my boobs. That’s the only way I can get them to stop rolling down.

You need an elastic belt, I got one from Amazon called Tights Up and DD and I both share it for wearing tights or leggings. Actually changed my life. Marvellous invention.

I never have this issue with tights unless they’re too small - get decent M&S ones with plenty of Lycra content and maybe buy a size bigger than you’ve got

Urgh I hate everything about tights, I can't wear them.

M&S do opaques with an extra wide waistband, think they're Autograph, which don't fall down or dig in at the waist to give that muffin top look. They only come in black but are the best I've tried.

I recently discovered the solution to this - cut down the waistband front middle seam about 2.5cm. Stops them rolling down. I had M&S and Wolfords both riding down, now neither do. It’s s revelation, especially as I’m currently carrying rather more belly chub than I’d like and the rolling was rather depressing!

Also don’t be tempted to go up a size of the smaller one does generally fit, bigger ones will sag more in the leg.

Another vote for m and s here - my favourites are the 3 40denier for £4 pack.
I get a large - for the length - and they never ever roll down.

Another top tip - hand wash and air dry tights - I take mine in the shower with me. The washing machine and tumble dryer MURDER tights.

Wear a pair of pants over your tights!

I always wear a pair of DH's boxers over the top, not very sophisticated, but stops them rolling down.

I love tights. Knickers, tights, then a pair of cotton or granny knickers over the top :)

I love tights!! So warm and so much better than they used to be - I can remember them in the 80s before lycia and they always sagged at the crotch, which feels terrible.

Are your tights new, or do they date back a few years? I find opaques don't ladder that often, which means I have some that are several years old and I've noticed the elasticity is starting to die now. I don't get the waistband rolling thing but I do get them slowly sliding down until I have Nora Batty ankles.

Primark opaque tights are great.

Usually if they roll down they are actually too small. But a bigger size.

Love tights! I had a hysterectomy a few years ago and despite being trim, trousers feel uncomfortable and tight whatever the size or cut.
I buy tights a size too big and hoik them up to my armpits

Another vote for marks and spencers, they are gorgeous, fairly indestructible (mine have lasted years of washing) but quite expensive. Primarks opaques whilst not being as thick or silky as Marks and spencer don't roll down and are bargainous. (Better if you destroy indestructible opaques like DD does)

Always find opaques way more comfy than any other forms of trousers jeans etc. But I find the opposite to the above I tend to get the larger size rather than smaller. I think it depends on whether you get roll down (where the waist rolls down, I dont) or pull down where the crotch ends up around your knees,which is my problem with bad opaques

Both my primarks and marks and spencers 80+ deniers go in the washing machine no problem
