So I have recently returned to work after my littlest started nursery . I'm struggling with being in grown up clothes for the office but the worst part is tights !
Why can't I find decent opaques that don't ride down around the waist?
What causes them to bloody roll down anyway? It's driving m crazy and I look like Nora batty by lunch ..... please tell me
why this is happening - and/ recommend me. some that won't do that......

ReelingLush your holdups experience does sound awful. I think they have improved them in recent times though, perhaps they stick better now but mine do seem to “holdup” just fine most of the time
:-)

Just wanted to say thanks everyone for your input ... I have now bought my usual M and S autograph ones in a a size up and I think I need to try the Heist ones ... anyone have any advice on sizing Heist ones?

With Heist, the construction changes between the 12-14 and 16-18.

12-14 is the XL (!) in their original sizing - when they introduced larger sizes last year they changed the sizing. The larger sizes are constructed slightly differently, and are not as opaque. As a tall 14-16, I thought I was doing the right thing and ordering the bigger size but no, turns out the 12-14 is perfect. Not sure if this means they generally run big though, or if it's just a funny thing at the borderline of two ranges. Their customer service was excellent (which is how I know all this).

I found a 12-14 Heist pair fits well and I reckon I'm a good 16-18 in most clothes shops. I would size down if in doubt.

I agree! Tights Up Belt has been a miracle. It is an elastic belt that has a grippy back that keeps up leggings or tights. My daughter and I fight over who gets to wear it. I need to just go buy another...I think they have more colours now. I even wear with jeans to keep them up. Has a nice flat buckle so cant even tell im wearing it. pretty sure the website is tightsup.com

For me, stockings and suspender belt with a dress, or knee high with trousers.

So much more comfortable than tights.

Tight roll down, despite buying them bigger or smaller. Socks do as well.

ParadiseCity I read your post, put this thread on my watch list and ordered Tights Up.
I've had them for a week and a half now, and all I can say is thank you. They are a complete game changer and I have no idea how I've made it into my 30's without them.

I haven’t read the whole thread but my solution to tights is spanx. Not the brand new stucky in kind, the knock off M&S ones that have been worn and washed 1000x and don’t really control anything. Those worn over tights holds them up all day and prevents saggy gusset, baggy knees and the dreaded roll. The downside is I told a colleague and am now referred to as 2nix whenever I wear tights...

YADNBU.

Another happy stocking-wearer here. I get functional suspenders - 3 clips per side from Stockingsdirect.

I must say the pictures on there look a bit racy, but the plainer belts in the right size are blissfully comfortable and don't make me feel like a Lady of the Night.

I wear reasonably close-fitting clothes sometimes and haven't noticed lumps and bumps, but the metal clips can cause a certain amount of confusion at those security checks. Most guards just frown and wave me through, but occasionally I have to confess, in which case male guards can't get rid of me fast enough, sometimes to a female colleague!

Another plus of stockings is that if one gets a hole, you just have to replace one, not the pair.
