So I have recently returned to work after my littlest started nursery . I'm struggling with being in grown up clothes for the office but the worst part is tights !
Why can't I find decent opaques that don't ride down around the waist?
What causes them to bloody roll down anyway? It's driving m crazy and I look like Nora batty by lunch ..... please tell me
why this is happening - and/ recommend me. some that won't do that......

I hate them! Rarely find a pair I like and when I do I can't remember where they are from or don't seem to get sent the same ones again.

Doesn't help I'm 20/22 but the tights I buy are meant to go up to 28 and are usually still to small!

I always wear another pair of knickers over the top to keep them up otherwise they do fall down.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 22/02/2018 07:57

I usually buy M&S opaques but always buy a large even though I am size 10 /12. The medium would roll down and be really uncomfortable the large stay up and are very comfortable.

AjasLipstick · 22/02/2018 08:02

I used to love them but lately they make me feel like I'm wearing clingfilm! So plasticy and nasty.

ZebraOwl · 22/02/2018 08:10

Tights for ballet I'm fine with. Tights for real life are the work of Satan. I'm not about to start wearing dance tights in the real world though, because they're prohibitively expensive & I'm considerably past the age one can reasonably wear pink tights in public.

Stupid tights. Bet men are responsible for their ridiculousnesses. (Like the nonsense of bows on front of bras. Never mind you might not want a weird lumpy bit there if you're wearing a fitted top, The Men Like It. Eejits.)

Bowednotbroken · 22/02/2018 08:11

Those Autograph ones that Queen mentioned above with a thicker waistband are the only ones - the ONLY ones - I find comfortable to wear (being both tall and fat) but M and S seem to have stopped making them (sobs).

raspberryrippleicecream · 22/02/2018 08:17

I was given Heist tights for Christmas, but have had no need to wear them yet.

Apparently they are life changing but need to be at the price they are!

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/02/2018 09:04

@Bowednotbroken Noooo! Good job I bought about 6 pairs last year. Bloody M&S - they stop selling useful stuff like those tights but keep producing monstrosities like the infamous pink dress Angry

Blobby10 · 22/02/2018 09:13

I hate tights - have long legs so the crotch always ends up halfway down my thighs! I started wearing stockings and suspender belt in my 20s and have never gone back to tights.

Bowednotbroken · 22/02/2018 09:15

I've just checked again QueenOfTheAndals and the 40 denier is still available but a lot more expensive than the 20 denier that I loved so much (sobs again)

BusterTheBulldog · 22/02/2018 09:17

I always size 2 up and wear a pair of ‘big’ pants over the top. Never have issues now!

Caspiana · 22/02/2018 09:21

Can’t stand wearing them, they really itch my legs, but Wolford or M&S velvet touch are the best around.

manicinsomniac · 22/02/2018 09:24

I never understand it when people say tights are difficult or uncomfortable. I wear them almost every day, whether I'm at work or not, and don't find them any different to leggings or trousers as far as comfort is concerned. I'm short though so tights usually come up well past my waist and often to my bra line. They never fall down.

If they feel tight or roll down a lot I'd assume they were too small.

phlewf · 22/02/2018 09:24

I had constant thrush as a kid, stopped the day I left school and started at a real job, bloody tights. Long legs and fat arse mean pants on top to keep them up. Then hot and sweaty and thrush. Boots used to do a pair of tights/suspenders. But no more. I hate tights so much.

NotSoSprightly · 22/02/2018 09:26

YANBU, tights are work of the devil!

Collection2000 · 22/02/2018 09:28

I just recently discovered Heist and it has totally changed my attitude to tights. Heist tights are COMFY!!! I get the high waistband ones and they stay put.

I'm a podgy apple shape and everything rolls down on me - leggings, tights, etc. Dresses suit me but hoiking up the tights I wear with them does not.

However... Heist tights cost the earth. About £20 a pair or more. I handwash them and line-dry them because they are going to have to last me for the rest of my life and then I will bequeath them to my grandchildren as an heirloom.

(Totally going to try the cutting-down-the-front-seam trick on some of my old non-Heist tights as well, now, though. Thanks for that!)

NerNerNerNerBATMAN · 22/02/2018 09:31

I Love tights! Always wear another pair of knickers over the top of them though.

redjoker · 22/02/2018 09:32

I used to wear a pair of pants over the top. Like some sort of superhero ;)

badb · 22/02/2018 09:34

Oh, I've had the same problem since I had DD. Pants too. So annoying. I think c-section overhang is not helping. Going up a size or two definitely helps (in tights anyway, I haven't really found a solution to the pants problem). Also, making sure there's a decent lycra content is key, especially in higher denier tights. I used to get away with Primark pre-DD, but not now, unless I buy two sizes up so the waistband sits under my boobs. M&S are good.

Easilyflattered · 22/02/2018 09:39

I don't get on with tights.

I have been known to wear maternity tights over my pot belly, or stockings

ShortandAnnoying · 22/02/2018 09:43

I hate tights too! I always wear trousers.

NorthernLurker · 22/02/2018 09:45

I wear black leggings. Can't be uncomfortable all day every day!

ScreamingValenta · 22/02/2018 09:51

I love them - I wear them every day, even to lounge round in at weekends. Once you have found a brand and size that's comfortable, which can involve trial error, they are fine.

sonjadog · 22/02/2018 09:59

M&S Autograph tights are the best. Comfy, wash well, last for ages.

I always buy tights in a huge size which means I can pull them up under my bra. No rolling down and keeps everything tucked in Grin
