Not to wear knickers in bed?

Vulpius · 20/02/2018 10:56

Not a thread about a thread, as such, but I was very struck by someone on another thread talking about her old bed kickers (as in knickers she wears in bed, not as in knickers worn by her bed). I would have thought it was thoroughly unreasonable to wear knickers of any description in bed (unless they are the type that leads to Things), but AIBU?

we need to get you on Dragons Den with your "incredible fanjo fan!!" Love it!!

Happy to give the Dragons a call but alas I won’t be volunteering to demonstrate. You knickerless nappers are better placed than I!

bananafish81 · 21/02/2018 23:33

I definitely have bed knickers. My bed knickers are colourful boxer briefs - worn under PJ bottoms and with a long sleeved top in winter and in summer just on their own with a t shirt. I have a stack of loose fit plain white t-shirts for bed as well. Bed socks different from daytime socks.

Currently ready for bed and wearing boxers, PJ bottoms, long sleeved top, socks and an old Merino wool sweater. Plus a 13.5 tog duvet! Don't sleep naked even in the height of summer.

Lickedthespoon · 22/02/2018 01:28

Surely, if you want/need to air your foof, not wearing knickers under a duvet cover isn’t going to air it much. I’d get yourself in the back garden on a breezy day, legs akimbo, that’ll do the trick.

CosyLulu · 22/02/2018 05:30

I’ve never worn knickers in bed except during period times and that feels really uncomfortable and constrained. I wear a loose cotton underslip abd that’s it. I could never sleep with a bra on.

Dh sleeps totally naked. In fact every man I’ve ever known sleeps naked.

I’m surprised he’s not farticle stained by now ...

stayathomer · 22/02/2018 06:04

yanbu and surprised there are so many getting their pants in a twist over the question!!! Wear pj bottoms without or nightdress without if in own bed, if for example staying in other house and was too hot to wear pj bottoms would wear underwear with nightdress (but would hate every minute!) As above you need to let everything breathe!!!!

Shockers · 22/02/2018 06:22

Organic cotton knickers and a t-shirt here. They’re my special bed knickers and they go on clean just before I get in. I can’t sleep naked.

BalloonDinosaur · 22/02/2018 06:34

Knickers, shorts and a vest top all year round. Not a fan of naked sleeping, feels weird.

And I often have to get up in the night if DS wakes up so easier to be ready-clothed than have to go find stuff.

diodati · 22/02/2018 06:46

bassackwards my mum told me the same thing. My DD thinks it's "weird" and always wears knickers. I, on the other hand, believed my mum. I have to have my nether region unclothed when in bed. Also, I always wear sleeveless cotton nighties. T-shirts are uncomfortable to sleep in as are pjs. I'm an oddity.Smile

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 22/02/2018 06:58

Maybe someone should invent disposable bed knickers; 100% paper - no plastic allowed- super comfy, environmentally friendly etc, could be used as loo paper in the morning before being flushed or even recycled

diodati · 22/02/2018 07:08

Now I'm worried about farticles.Angry

morningconstitutional2017 · 22/02/2018 08:37

A nightie or pyjamas would be more comfy and healthier, surely? Periods excepted.

Ineke · 22/02/2018 08:37

Hate washing sheets, stripping beds, drying, no tumble drier, so wear clean cotton pants every night so don't need to wash sheets at least once a week. Just lazy, but, if on holiday, in hot country, with maid service! Then, commando.

keffie12 · 22/02/2018 08:47

Fresh on for bed knickers here with pjs or cooler pjs/nighties in the warmer times.

I am a clean freak with clothing/underwear. I change my pants at least 2-3 times a day!

I dont do time of the month anymore. It just feels fresher etc when i have been to the loo to change. Always have a spare pair in my bag too.

I am a bit OCD over my personal cleanliness. I am the opposite. I thought on first read "yuck people go for nothing and don't wear clean pants for bed" each to their own

Ineke · 22/02/2018 08:53

Looking after little girl who got ready for bed, in her nighty, knicker less, comes down to watch a bit of tv first. Naturally, bare bum on the sofa, so didn't feel inclined to sit in the same spot after she went to bed. Do feel that clean cotton pants are more hygienic than bare bottoms on sheets bar nights of passion. Unless you are superwoman/man and wash sheets everyday. How often do knickerless wash their sheets out of interest? As often as they change their pants one would hope.

Ineke · 22/02/2018 09:02

Out of interest, is it a man thing to sleep naked, no matter how bloody freezing it is. How many where PJs? Or just boxers. Just curious.

murphys · 22/02/2018 09:11

what if a spider crawls up your vagina in the night and lays it’s eggs in the warm damp crevice?

I will use as my reasoning. I am not in UK and do have spiders that come out at night looking for er, liquids or a cosy spot.

And in winter, the more on the better. No central heating here so have to keep every bit warm.

bananafish81 · 22/02/2018 09:14

My DH can't bear sleeping naked, in winter it's boxers, PJ bottoms and a t-shirt, when it's warmer just a t-shirt and boxers. And always socks.

Ineke · 22/02/2018 09:33

@Banana this is music to me ears! Would love DP to wear PJs at least when it's freezing, or just boxers in warmer weather. Cold wet dribbly bits are not conducive to gentle sleep!

Singadream · 22/02/2018 09:35

I am agog that anyone would do this. But I wear nothing to bed, and when on my period I just wear knickers and pad but nothing else. Even if I lounge around in nightie of PJs I take them off to sleep.

IAmMumWho · 22/02/2018 10:15

I've always worn knickers for bed and pjs. Think is just the norm for me. DH goes naked.

DenPerry · 22/02/2018 10:15

My DP doesn't sleep naked, always in boxers and a t-shirt... I think it's sexier than being naked. Keep it all a mystery! I don't want to spoon his sweaty, farty bum, his dangly bollocks and his hairy back! Grin
Never known other men to sleep naked either..

IAmMumWho · 22/02/2018 10:22

@DenPerry that made me laugh out loud

Vulpius · 22/02/2018 10:30

My DP wears, if anything, a nightshirt. I like the nightshirt, as it offers nice easy access.

Ineke, I am not going to say how often I change my sheets, but it is less often than I change my pants. Grin

Even if you fart, you fart out microscopic faecal particles. If it's just you in bed and you don't mind that then it's fine but you wouldn't want your kids to come into the bed.

I co-slept with all of mine for a very long time. I still have one who comes in early morning for a cuddle.

None have been hurt by my faecal particles, released by farting.

Surely the particles would escape out of the side of knickers anyway? Grin

LakieLady · 22/02/2018 10:52

You need to wear knickers for hygiene. Even if you fart, you fart out microscopic faecal particles

But if the faecal particles (farticles) are microscopic, they'll escape through the weave of the knicker fabric. You'd have to have pants made of totally impermeable fabric to contain a microscopic farticle.

And the waist and legs would have to be like, vacuum sealed or something.

No, I'm confident that nothing short of a wetsuit will prevent egress of farticles.
