It's always been a thing, hotcrossbun. I put it down to a combination of society (certainly, certain sections of the media) demonising mothers whatever choice they make leading to people feeling defensive, and some people having hreat difficulty understanding that not everyone is just like them (see threads marvelling at why people would buy spread instead of butter for less controversial examples). The result is always a fight.
