Try entering this: women killed in 2017. See what the first page of results looks like. I'll post a screenshot of what I got in a bit.

I get that page too and have never googled anything about transgender issues.

QuickQuickSloe · 13/02/2018 12:11

All trans stories for me too. I've never even typed the words trans until just now.

Rebeccaslicker · 13/02/2018 12:12

If ever the "daily reactionary twat" needed to actually pick up on a thread, it's this one!!

Ifailed · 13/02/2018 12:12

I've just cleared all my cookies from my browser, and got the same result.

Mutiny0nTheBunty · 13/02/2018 12:12

I got it too - very odd Confused

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/02/2018 12:12

Thanks, all. I'll try reporting to Google too. Don't know how much notice they will take, but I'm really shocked by this. Two women a week killed by men in the UK, worse in the USA, probably much worse in many other parts of the world, and this is what Google throws up as the answer to that question.

Weirdly, if I google “females killed in 2017” the results are very different. I reported it anyway.

PoorYorick · 13/02/2018 12:14

Oh my God. It's not even just the top hit. It's a whole unbroken list.

Riverside2 · 13/02/2018 12:15

this issue has been mentioned on MN before

I was completely flummoxed - I looked on my work computer and then again when I got home.

It was 2016 I think - and I wouldn't have googled anything trans related either. It is an absolute campaign to influence the search engine. It's definitely worse than when I originally saw it - when I saw it was the first page of results, now it goes on for pages.

Rawhh · 13/02/2018 12:18

@blue

I understand how Google search optimisation works thanks.

It is also to do with particular websites working harder at their search optimisation and to do with general trends.

Trans issues are trending at the moment because of the hysterical, and it is hysterical, way people are reacting to the issues at the moment. This causes them to Google more thus increasing the prevalence of the trans results.

Anyway, Trans threads on Mumsnet feel like I'm stepping into an alternative universe so I will bow out.

AyeAyeFishyPie · 13/02/2018 12:21

Absolutely nothing to do with my Internet history at all.

Riverside2 · 13/02/2018 12:24

Rawhh "Trans issues are trending at the moment because of the hysterical, and it is hysterical, way people are reacting to the issues at the moment. This causes them to Google more thus increasing the prevalence of the trans results."

um, no. Firstly, hardly anyone knows about the issues in the UK, no matter how MN is.

Secondly this would not cause "women murdered in 2017" to default to "trans murdered".

brizzledrizzle · 13/02/2018 12:24

Hmm Some people have too much time on their hands.

bluebells1 · 13/02/2018 12:24

WTAF! They are NOT women.

PoorYorick · 13/02/2018 12:25

I thought I understood SEO (in theory, no practical experience) but I can't see how you'd pull a coup like this to take over pretty much the entire first PAGE of hits. How?

I take the PP's point that this is a trending issue, but if the only search term is 'women' and not 'trans' then how can it be that overriding?

I've reported, it is nothing to do with my search history.
There was one result about a woman who was murdered but eveything else is trans.

I wish my DD could see this - sometimes the only thing to stop me from the Germaine Greer quote is that DH is certainly not like this and would be horrified too. (And he's not perfect by a long way, so it gives me hope.)

Chattette1 · 13/02/2018 12:28

I got the same and I never Google anything trans related.

SweetMoon · 13/02/2018 12:28

WTAF? Thats messed up. Am I in some kind of parallel universe right now?

SweetMoon · 13/02/2018 12:31

I've reported it to google too.

PoorYorick · 13/02/2018 12:31

Do you mean "women have very little idea of how much men hate them"?

floriad · 13/02/2018 12:32

only the first 4 and the bottom few are trans related in my case.

Still very shocking obviously but not quite as extreme as yours.

RowenaDedalus · 13/02/2018 12:32

I cannot believe this! How many times can you peak trans?

GoodyMog · 13/02/2018 12:33

Rawwh Interesting that you chose the word "hysterical" Hmm
