Try entering this: women killed in 2017. See what the first page of results looks like. I'll post a screenshot of what I got in a bit.

Fucking hell! Shock

And I just cleared my entire history, switched on all my high security stuff (blockers/ VPN/ everything I've got) and still got the same result.

So we really are being erased.

Just like that.

My top two results were about trans women. Which is odd, as I have no interest whatsoever in trans issues and in fact visit the women'said website and abuse recognition websites quite often. I would have expected to see something about women killed by abuse if the searches are based on my search history.

Worryingly, an advanced search specifying that the words trans, transgender and transwomen be OMITTED from the search and only the exact phrase "Women killed in 2017" be included results in FOUR pages only!

It is as though all references or most....have been removed!

A lot of the pages are related to Turkey, Catalan and Pakistan and 6 are of one Facebook group!

Got the same as you op when I searched 2016 and 2017. I have sent feedback to Google

So what do people think is happening here? A deliberate SEO campaign for the individual sites?

@PoorYorick exactly! Knowing DH so well is my rock that stops me seeing all other men (even the nice ones I know well) as some kind of woman hating demons.

It's not fucking "hysterical"!!!

Nice use of an incredibly misogynistic term there btw- that word's been used for centuries to shut difficult women up, to medicalise their anger, to take away their power by making it all about how our wombs make us mentally deficient and unable to be trusted.

Fuck off with the "hysterical" bullshit.

If you look at the bolded words you will see what it has mainly picked up on, I get a mixture with everything from 3 down being non trans related.

The trans sites I am seeing are from MotherJones and Atlantic and I doubt they are pushing site via SEO.

This actually gives me chills.

Lurker how else though? You can hide SEO within a site...tuck it away so nobody reads it or sees it but the bots or whatever they are, pick up on it....but Google would usually spot that sort of thing and stop it I think.

IwasJust me too....forcing certain pages to the top of the searches is one thing but somehow removing all the others? Starting to get fucking weird that.

The phrase "Murdered women in 2017" also garners trans related results.

Report
AjasLipstick · 13/02/2018 12:45

"Violence against women" seems unaffected as a term though.

Wow.
I just did this from a laboratory PC that gets wiped every night (thankfully I am also in charge of monitoring the search history!!)
Top 3 results are same as yours, then a Guardian article from December about a women's aid study on domestic violence, then a trans article, then an American news article on domestic violence in Atlanta, then more trans articles

WTF?

I can see what's happening but can't say what it is.

When you type something into Google, there are various suggestions which come up as you type as Google attempts to work out what you want aren't there?

The moment you hit the word trans, things stop....google stops trying to predict.

I searched a variety of phrases and Google stops predicting when it sees I am searching something like "Transgender people convicted of murder" ...it STOPS at Convicted.

Similarly with "Women unlawfully killed" it stops at unlawfully"

I tried women killed in 2018.
My top search result is trans related but the others aren’t.

I got the same result and I've never Googled anything trans. If anything I find the anti trans hysteria on MN somewhat ridiculous.

Someone contact the Daily bloody Mail or something...they'll be all over this like a rash.

Or even better....some real newspapers.

If you search for men killed in 2017, you also get trans stories coming up

That is just crazy. What the actual fuck is going on here.

I never google anything Trans and it came up the same for me too on google but if I search it on DuckDuckGo, there's only one trans item, second down on the list. duckduckgo.com/?q=women+killed+in+2017&t=hf&ia=web

7/10 results refer to trans. I haven't been searching trans info.

This is not a new thing apparently!

Just found a post on Reddit from a month ago!

My top two were trans-related, next two were Karen Ingala Smith's site and a Guardian article about a Women's Aid census. Of the rest of the results displayed, all but one were trans stories.
