To ask how tall you are?

I'm 5'10 (and a half even) and everywhere I go I feel freakishly tall compared to other women around me.

It's alright though, really!

How tall are you? Do you like being your particular height?

OP posts:
Reallycantbebothered · 11/02/2018 15:28

5ft 8, like being this height, although I'm taller than many of friends but hated it when I was a teenager in the 70's and was freakishly tall and could never find anything to fit, so my mum made many of my clothes
Dh is 5ft 11
My dds are 5ft 10 and 5 ft 8 and Ds is 6ft 2...I'm the vertically challenged one now
Hate travelling in public transport as always feel so crushed in seats

Eveforever · 11/02/2018 15:28

5'4" which is average for a woman in the U.K. so it is not short! I would like to be a bit taller though.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 11/02/2018 15:29

Im 5" 6 and quite like it. I'm small compared to the rest of my family (5" 9 and up) but pretty much average with friends etc.

CaptainCardamom · 11/02/2018 15:30

5'10" with huge wide feet. Very large framed, so I have big wrists and hands too. I don't mind my height in itself, though I do feel like a giant next to some friends (though I have a friend who's over 6ft so feel petite when I'm with her!).

I can find long enough trousers usually, but I'm very long-waisted and I do get pissed off with dresses being too short in the waist/boob area , and too short on my legs as well. Also shoes - even if feminine shoes/heels come in my size, I can't get them on because they're too narrow Hmm. And I can't get bangles over my hands Hmm.

I've also experienced men feeling threatened by my height, saying they wished I was shorter, or desperately trying to assert they were taller than me, when they weren't Hmm Hmm Hmm

You get used to yourself though, don't you. I wouldn't wish to wake up tomorrow as a perfectly proportioned 5'4" person, it would be weird!

confusednotcom2 · 11/02/2018 15:30

If you want to feel small hang out near models. I did a little bit as a teen and at my height was a titch.

naughty Russell & Bromley do half sizes (expensive though). I’m a 5.5 in shoes which is small for my height but just runs in the family.

WickedLazy · 11/02/2018 15:32

4 ft 10 ( just under...). The thing that annoys me the most, is that I can't carry too much extra weight, or I look really role poly. If I was 5 ft 10, I'd be super skinny.

Annabelle4 · 11/02/2018 15:32

5ft 3.
Dd has been taller than me since she was 10 or 11.

I don't mind it. I quite like being petite and wearing heels

WickedLazy · 11/02/2018 15:33

*roly

confusednotcom2 · 11/02/2018 15:34

MsHarry

I believe children’s heights are more influenced by their mothers. A daughter will likely to be the average of the parents & a son taller than the mother.

CaptainCardamom · 11/02/2018 15:34

Obvious from this thread that tall is desirable and short is not

I don't think there's anything particularly positive about being tall, and I've never understood why some women bemoan being small or seem envious of me. If you're tall you have a smaller choice of men (even if you are OK with a shorter man, many of them are not attracted to a taller woman), trouble finding clothes and shoes, and it's much less comfortable on planes etc.

Bluntness100 · 11/02/2018 15:34

I'm five eight, I am happy with my height, I often wear heels of three inches. Used to be four inches, but age got the better of me. I've a short body and long legs. My daughter is the same and she is five nine.

When I was young I always wanted to be small and petite, but I grew up happy with what I am, I think it gives me more authority at work, a more commanding presence. I've a small frame though and am narrow.

I don't think there is any point in being unhappy with your height. You can't change it, so, best to accept it.

MancUnicorn · 11/02/2018 15:35

5"2
I used to be tall as a kid then just stopped young.
Seeing a lot of negativity about being shorter than 5"3. I love it. People sometimes think I look younger (even though in general I think I look quite older than I am).
It's other people who seem to have the problem with me being short!

readysteadyteddy · 11/02/2018 15:35

Another 5ft 8in here.

gillybombilly · 11/02/2018 15:35

I'm 6' tall and come from tall stock on both sides of my family.
My dad is 6'4" yet his dad was only 5' - his dad was 6'8" so the tall gene skipped a generation.

TheRebel · 11/02/2018 15:36

I’m just over 5’9” with size 8 feet and I’ve always been the tallest out of my friends, I don’t really notice it until I see myself in photos, then I think I look like a giant!

blueskypink · 11/02/2018 15:36

5' 11" and I don't feel freakishly tall. Helps that DH and our (now adult) dcs are all taller than me.

Pisses me off though that so many high street shops have a petite section but not a tall section.

MilfordFound · 11/02/2018 15:37

I'm 6ft. Hated it as a teenager but it doesn't bother me now.
My feet on the other hand, I'm a wide size 10. It's a real pain in the arse trying to find nice shoes. Nice flat shoes. I'm getting married next month, what am I meant to wear on my feet?!

Bluntness100 · 11/02/2018 15:37

I believe children’s heights are more influenced by their mothers

I think they say in general, girls grow taller than their mothers, and boys grow taller than their fathers. Obviously not a firm rule. But a general average.

CaptainCardamom · 11/02/2018 15:37

Although I get the thing about the weight. I can put on/lose a stone and still wear the same size jeans, as there's more space for it to spread out over. And overall I have more body to feed so need more calories than a tiny person.

TragicRabbit · 11/02/2018 15:40

confused I really don't think that hanging around with models will make me feel small. Short yes. Small no.
I'm 5'5" which was tall when I stopped growing at 12 but becoming shorter by the year. Mind you may have shrunk.

floriad · 11/02/2018 15:41

I believe children’s heights are more influenced by their mothers. A daughter will likely to be the average of the parents & a son taller than the mother.

Obviously just anecdotal but definitely not true in my family.

one of my aunts (she's tall-ish for a woman) has a husband that's smaller. Their older son is smaller than the mother.

My father (175) is about 2 cm talller than my rather tall mother (173).

I'm about 165....

Jaygee61 · 11/02/2018 15:41

Whereas for me a stone is the equivalent of a clothes size. If I put on or lost one I would have to buy new clothes.

MirandaWest · 11/02/2018 15:41

5 foot 4. Is all right but would like to be an inch or two taller

MsHarry · 11/02/2018 15:42

confused but she's an inch shorter than me! At 17!

Rosiie · 11/02/2018 15:42

I'm 5"7, and never felt too tall amongst other women.
