To ask how tall you are?

I'm 5'10 (and a half even) and everywhere I go I feel freakishly tall compared to other women around me.

It's alright though, really!

How tall are you? Do you like being your particular height?

5'4" and quite happy being average! Most of my friends at school were between 5'3" and 5'6" so I just felt I was the right height rather than small or tall. I know lots of taller women these days so I'm on the shorter side of average for younger women, but still fairly middling. I wish my legs were longer and my body shorter though.

CeeCeeMacFay · 11/02/2018 15:13

5 ft 4 which is a good height for me

Moggie45 · 11/02/2018 15:13

6ft 2, have grown (!) to embrace it, hated being tall as a teen though. Desperately wanted to fit in.

Els1e · 11/02/2018 15:13

5’9. I use to hate being tall and bean pole like as a kid but now I like it. It has advantages.

NaughtyNoraTheNamechanger · 11/02/2018 15:15

@BalloonDinosaur I had the same thought as another poster... your 1 year old is nearly 5'3? That's pretty impressive isn't it?

AliciaMayEmory · 11/02/2018 15:18

5' 10" and am happy with it (apart from when I go clothes shopping and everything I like is too short in the arms or legs, and the waists on dresses are way above my waistline and sit just under my boobs). Tall clothing ranges are still woefully bad and few and far between, too. I hated my height as a teen as I was 5' 7" by the time I was 13 and all my friends were around 5' 2", but now I don't really feel that tall. It is strange, though, how many people still feel it appropriate to comment when you are a tall women.

LinoleumBlownapart · 11/02/2018 15:19

I'm 5 ft 8, DH is 6 ft 3, sil is 6 ft and my son is 14 and already 6 ft. I used to hate being tall at school because all my school friends are 5 ft 2 or 3. When I went to university I realised I wasn't that tall, just higher end of average. My sil has never felt really tall, or she's never said so, her husband us 5 ft 6.

notsmartenough · 11/02/2018 15:19

5'4.
Was measured at school at 15 and again at a medical at 18 as 5'3 and just assumed that was my height until I was measured at 57 (!) and found I'd gained an inch.
I'm happy with this.

Longdistance · 11/02/2018 15:20

5’10” here too.

I hate shopping. Trousers too short, and not many shoes a size 8 (usually go as far as size 7), so I internet shop now.

Not only that, I’m a 38GG/H in bras Blush

Anyway, I digress, they are slowly closing Long Tall Sally shops. I’m fed up of being tall, it’s not like you can add more material to the bottom of your trousers. ASOS are my hero’s for tall clothes at the minute.

calmandbright · 11/02/2018 15:20

Go to Holland! I’m not exactly freakishly tall (just over 5’7) but I frequently feel tall, especially if I’m wearing heels. Went to Amsterdam and felt positively tiny!

MsHarry · 11/02/2018 15:21

5ft 5, I'm ok with it but wish I had longer legs. 5ft 7 would be perfect as DH is 6ft 5.

lookingforthedroids · 11/02/2018 15:21

5' 7.5" which means that 'regular' trousers are a little bit too short, and 'long' trousers are miles too long. It's a right pain.

INeedToEat · 11/02/2018 15:21

5'11" and happy to wear 4" heels.

Love being tall.

Dipitydoda · 11/02/2018 15:21

5 ft 3 most of my female friends about the same height within a couple of inches which always annoys my how long maxi dresses are and very few for women under 5ft 10. Apart from that and not being great in crowded places I’d rather be my height than tall

WingsOnMyBoots · 11/02/2018 15:22

5ft 5 inches. I think it's a good height.

DeniseBest · 11/02/2018 15:22

5'1". Have always been the shortest within social groups and workplaces.
I was described as "dinky" once which made me feel like a Shetland pony Grin.

GabsAlot · 11/02/2018 15:25

5 ft and a bit ive heard all the short jokes in the world its boring and crap being so small

MsHarry · 11/02/2018 15:25

I expected my DDs to be v tall as DH 6ft 5 and I'm 5ft 5 and taller than DM but at 17 DD is still 5ft4. Don't think she'll grow now. Anyone grow much taller after 17?

mollied · 11/02/2018 15:26

4'11" I know I'm short and I hate it every day is a battle with something, I have a 6'2" boyfriend and we both get neck ache!

ToastyFingers · 11/02/2018 15:26

I'm 5'2.

I'm quite happy the size I am, but finding jeans that fit is a pain, and if I was bigger, I could eat more, which would be nice.

BonnieF · 11/02/2018 15:26

I’m 5’11, so i’m well over 6ft in my heels which makes me taller than DP Grin. Fortunately, he isn’t a pathetic insecure tosser, so he’s fine about this.

I travel quite a bit, and it’s interesting how my height makes me stand out in some places, but not in others. In southern Spain, southern Italy or Greece I feel like a freak or a different species. In northern Germany or the Scandinavian countries, if feel normal.

NaughtyNoraTheNamechanger · 11/02/2018 15:27

Strange thing about me is that my feet aren't that far above average (nat that I know what average is for feet) at 6.5. I can never find a 6.5 though so have to go for a 7 (or 6) instead.

OP posts:
confusednotcom2 · 11/02/2018 15:27

Yep Scandi countries make me feel small & others make you feel like a giant.

Not so much of an issue now but it was a pain in my 20s that high street dresses & skirts were indecent.

Husband is 6.2 but I would of preferred 6.4/5.

Apparently sons will always be taller than their mums.

romany4 · 11/02/2018 15:28

5ft 4.
I used to want to be taller but like being a wee person now.

Jaygee61 · 11/02/2018 15:28

Dipitydoda, Wallis do petite maxi dresses, I’ve had a couple of nice ones from there. As said upthread I am 5ft 1.5in, but have long legs and a short body so often find petite ranges are wrongly proportioned but sleeves and trousers are too long in normal ranges. Also difficult to find shirts that sit at the right length - knee or just above. I have thick ankles and look frumpy in midi length skirts.

Obvious from this thread that tall is desirable and short is not Sad.
