ds is nearly 6 months & fair enough he is gorgeous (not that I'm biased or anything) but why do total strangers feel the need to have a grab at him when he's in his buggy? Doesn't matter where we are, on the bus, in a shop, whatever, there's someone stroking his cheek or grabbing his hand. I see their manky fingernails or nicotine-yellow fingers & shudder!
I know babies are cute & soft & cuddly but I'd never dream of touching someone else's baby without at least asking first.
So, AIBU?

My MIL had an MRSA infection in her wrist and I still let her hold my 2 week old dd... but my god it went against all my instincts!!

The wrist was all bandaged up and doc had told MIL it was safe to hold her new grand daughter (her only GD, and she never thought she'd have any, so slightly doolally over her, to say the least)

I couldn't exactly object, could I? so I handed her over, then sat there silently panicking for about two hours til MIL reluctantly handed her back.

I also subtly waved a bottle of alcohol gel under MIL's nose, saying, 'oh this stuff's great, I use it quite a lot before I pick her up...'

I really don't like strangers poking dd's face. I still let them though. It feels like PFB new mum madness and an overactive lioness instinct, totally irrational, best overcome probably.

I think this is sad. People are just being friendly. We isolate ourselves more and more all the time. Why do we turn away from people's kindness?
