to get annoyed when total strangers touch/stroke my baby without asking?

ds is nearly 6 months & fair enough he is gorgeous (not that I'm biased or anything) but why do total strangers feel the need to have a grab at him when he's in his buggy? Doesn't matter where we are, on the bus, in a shop, whatever, there's someone stroking his cheek or grabbing his hand. I see their manky fingernails or nicotine-yellow fingers & shudder!
I know babies are cute & soft & cuddly but I'd never dream of touching someone else's baby without at least asking first.
So, AIBU?

Ladies, ladies lovely ladies ...

big breaths

misdee · 03/05/2007 00:02

even i know that cold sores can be fatal to child/person with eczema. i dreaded chicken pox and prayed that dd1 got it when her skin was in good shape, and she did get it mildly at xmas 2 years ago which is when her skin has settled after the weather change.

she has had countless infections, a list of anti biotics as long as my arm, oral steroids, most treatments have been used. she flares badly after jabs, so hasnt had pre-school booster as it was bad enough first time round. has to have flu jab though as well.

PinkTulips · 03/05/2007 00:02

nobody was kerry, you jumped down peoples throats.

the thread was about normal healthy babies and whether they should be touched, obviouly there are going to be seriously ill children who shouldn't be, you don't need to jump down peoples throats with that fact as if we're all idiots

DonnyLass · 03/05/2007 00:05

god i feel like an idiot ... i'm a medical biochemist and didn't make the link between excema and all this ...

wondering now as my dd has a little excema that flares now and then and constant cough if there's comething in it

i thought it was a reaction to washing powder

anyway am hijacking soz

to OP ... yes it can be annoying (and sometimes dangerous we have learned) when strangers touch your child .. it is meant in kindness most of the time tho

DonnyLass · 03/05/2007 00:06

anyway, i have to be up tomorrow so i should really get my ass to bed... night all

PinkTulips · 03/05/2007 00:07

most of your posts have the wrod fuck in the kerry

misdee · 03/05/2007 00:07

DL if she has constant cough, espeically at night please get her checked for asthma. even though dd1 has had asthma since a baby, i didnt twig that dd2 constant coughing at night out of the blue at 4yrs old was asthma. she is now on blue and brown inahlers as well.

PinkTulips · 03/05/2007 00:09

misdee, can a cough alone be asthma? coz i asked doc about ds's cough and they rambled on about bouts of bronchitis etc etc... but i'm sure it's asthma related

Ooopsydaisy · 03/05/2007 00:09

Kerry,

go and have a drink....

Hillls · 03/05/2007 00:09

loads of yellow field atm, doesnt help. fortunatly i have lovely filters on my car sothe kids can travel in comfort.

yes a persistant cough can be a sign of asthma, dd1+2 are coughy asthmatic, wheeze only appears in later stages of attacks for them.

DonnyLass · 03/05/2007 00:11

thanks misdee I will ... i have been wondering for a few weeks because it is a persistent, dry cough that is worse at night, she does have eczema (hurrah right at last) flare ups and I had asthma as a child ...

she has reflux ... any links with that?

misdee · 03/05/2007 00:12

no idea on reflux, sorry.

bugger, and the paeds waiting list is 9 months, guess i'll have to get ds referred too. he's got an allergic rash the last few weeks too and i'm damned if i can figure out the cause!

thanks for the info

DonnyLass · 03/05/2007 00:13

will they diagnose asthma in babies tho ... dn't they try to avoid that till they reach 2?

Hillls · 03/05/2007 00:13

misdee have you tried sea air? It is so good for those with bad lungs
