The Scottish Government's consultation on changes to the GRA closes on 1st March 2018.

The rest of the UK will likely follow Scotland's decision, so this is your chance to make your views known.

For those who don't yet understand the risks to women from changes to the Gender Recognition Act, please read this document. It is pretty straightforward

leyaterra.wordpress.com/2018/02/06/gender-the-gra-and-womens-rights/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

Then please complete the Scottish Government's consultation.

You do NOT have to be Scottish or live in Scotland to complete it.

The brilliant Dr Nic Williams wrote a guide to the consultation

fairplayforwomen.com/scottish-consultation/

PLEASE complete it and pass to friends/family

I've got DH and parents to respond.

Bump

Absofrigginlootly · 28/02/2018 04:55

Done.

Took me about 30 minutes but I wrote quite a bit of waffle - I never manage to say exactly what I want to say (oh well) but I feel I got most of my points across.... felt like I had to do this for DDs future

CapnHaddock · 28/02/2018 08:30

Today is the last day to get your voices heard. @alternativefacts -

Dr Nic Williams' video is worth a watch:

Her factsheet on the FairPlay for Women website (which she mentions in the video) is really good too.

ADishBestEatenCold · 28/02/2018 08:43

Not sure how it could be done without it being a TAAT, AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth, but could you post something on the Scotsnet topic?

As to the the Scottish Government's consultation ... I haven't met anybody in my day to day life (other than among a few friends that I discuss it with) that even knows about the Scottish Government's consultation!

ADishBestEatenCold · 28/02/2018 08:44

Sorry should have said, I live in Scotland.

ApplesinmyPocket · 28/02/2018 09:17

DD2 (29 and horrified by the railroading trans agenda) and I completed this last night - it wasn't altogether easy, due to poor questions - but we thought it was too important not to.

We wrote and submitted them separately but having compared notes, we felt we'd covered similar, essential points. She wrote a lot more than I did - she feels very passionately about the nonsense of this and the constant conflation of SEX with GENDER!

Thanks be to MN and all the brilliant women here who have raised our awareness of this.

misscockerspaniel · 28/02/2018 10:07

Procrastinators gather here! It is time to go and do your duty as a woman!

defectiveinspector · 28/02/2018 10:09

Thanks for sharing the guidance and advice. I've just completed the consultation.

OldCrone · 28/02/2018 11:39

There's still time to do this before it closes tomorrow at 5pm. It's important to get our voices heard.

Loads of it doesn't make sense, like the use of the terms sex and gender, and all the stuff about non-binary people being a separate category from men and women. I lost count of the number of times I explained the difference between sex and gender and pointed out that they couldn't be used interchangeably.

milbracat · 28/02/2018 11:52

Done. I have tried to keep my arguments free from emotive language and have avoided hyperbolae such as "throwing women under the bus" as I feel (although tempting) is likely to be detrimental to the intended sentiment.

Some remarks I've made include:

  1. The empirical evidence is that gender dysphoria is a substantial medical (specifically mental health) issue. Allowing self-declaration on gender and enforcing acceptance of this by others by law is akin to being obliged to agree with an anorexic in their perception that they are fat.
  1. Given the non-requirement of surgical or hormonal intervention, "applicants" should not be allowed to switch from one gender to another and back again to suit their current feelings. Either they are a "woman trapped in a man's body" (or vice versa) or they aren't. They cannot be logically both.
  1. The line has to be drawn somewhere, but at 16 or 17 years old many will still be in the process of sorting out their feelings on sex/gender/sexuality and will still be in the process of developing their mental relationship to the adult world.
  1. This is one of a potential considerable number of legal anomalies that this whole issue is likely to bring up. It is a separate issue but "civil partnerships" should have been abolished when same-sex marriages became legal.
  1. As mammals, humans are either male for female. Each individual (apart from a very few cases) produces either sperm or eggs or have the internal body apparatus to do so - whether working or not. This is entirely sufficient for the purpose of reproduction. There is no role for any in-between states. Anything "non-binary" is subjective and based entirely on feelings.
  1. I think the Scottish Parliament is asking for trouble in recognising the concept of "non-binary" people in the first place.
  1. The whole issue of transgender seems only to become an issue recently brought into the limelight. It is appropriate to ask why. Many transactivists have become
very vocal in internet discussion and some have been verbally abusive to those who don't fully agree with their ideology. The question about what makes a woman a woman or a man a man has never been answered without resorting to either circular arguments or by resorting to outdated stereotypes. I feel the entire consultation has been motivated by pressure from numerically small but very vocal lobby groups.

The anorexic comparison is not mine, but that of Claire Fox who mentioned it in Radio 4's Moral Maze programme.

That's because they didn't really want anyone to know. Such significant changes should be made very public, but they are hoping they can change things without anyone noticing or questioning it until it's too late as they know it will cause a shitstorm.
Everything is so focused on Brexit they picked the perfect time to force this bullshit through.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 01/03/2018 00:36

Bumpity - dont put it off any longer. Closes 5pm Today.
