The best flavour of jam

Shop:

  1. Blackcurrant
  2. Seedless raspberry
  3. Strawberry

Homemade:

  1. Damson
  2. Gooseberry
  3. Strawberry

DC contend that strawberry tops both lists Hmm

Clearly I am NBU. Strawberry jam is good jam but definitely not best.

Shop bought : Apricot, raspberry, marmalade.
Home made: I don’t. But MIL made rhubarb with something (raspberry?) recently, that was good.

MsJuniper · 06/02/2018 23:01

The correct answer is:

Raspberry
Blackberry
Rhubarb & Ginger

Shockers · 06/02/2018 23:05

Shop bought- strawberry 🍓

Homemade- gooseberry

Actually, my favourite is lavender jelly, but that’s not on your list. Oh, and quince!

I really don’t like damson though, which is a real shame because we have 2 damson trees.

I do like damson gin though...

Laqueue · 06/02/2018 23:09

Rhubarb and ginger
Black Cherry
Raspberry.

They all have a bit more kick to them compared to strawberry or apricot.

My favourite thing ever to eat though is wholemeal Irish soda bread with proper salted butter and then honey drizzled over.

newtlover · 06/02/2018 23:34

mmm, quince is good, but it's a jelly really not a jam
I mean lots of these are really nice....
but damson is STILL THE BEST

Oswin · 06/02/2018 23:38

Pineapple jam is the absolute best ever.

WattdeEll · 07/02/2018 01:29

From these lists, I think I need to be more adventurous when selecting jam as usually have strawberry or raspberry Blush
Black cherry jam in a cherry bakewell cake (bbc good food recipe, very tasty) is amazing. Going to buy some damson next time I see it on recommendations above.

TooSarcastic · 07/02/2018 01:59

Either black cherry or apricot. Perfection

user764329056 · 07/02/2018 02:07

Black cherry
Raspberry
Plum
Blackcurrant

WellAlwaysHaveParis · 07/02/2018 02:14

Raspberry!! :) And marmalade - any kind. Lime marmalade is bloody delicious 😍😍

WellAlwaysHaveParis · 07/02/2018 02:15

Oooh also black cherry and blackberry. And quince jelly ❤️

gingergenius · 07/02/2018 02:39

I'm craving jam now!
Raspberry
Damson cheese

AlllWomenShortbreads · 07/02/2018 02:43

Homemade rhubarb and ginger obvs!
Also homemade yellow plum, bramble jelly
So many good ones.

NotMrsTumble · 07/02/2018 03:00

Rhubarb. With none of that nasty ginger. Or with raspberry at a pinch. Bonne maman rhubarb jam is lovely, but difficult to find.
I fancy a try of the rose petal stuff. Rhubarb and Rose might work (and I rather like the alliteration)

IllHaveALargeGlassOfRed · 07/02/2018 07:39

Mackays rhubarb and ginger! Yum!

Hippadippadation · 07/02/2018 08:02

Raspberry with seeds and apricot are my favourites.

Weedsnseeds1 · 07/02/2018 08:50

Quince
Rhubarb and orange
Blackcurrant
But any of the sour ones really - damson, gooseberry, cherry.
Strawberry is too sweet and bland.
Someone asked what bullaces are - a type of wild plum, round and a bit bigger than sloes. Can be green or black and make amazing jam.
As do cherry plums. They're very popular in municipal hedges and nobody seems to pick them. All the more for me!!

BitofaPoorEffort · 07/02/2018 09:04

Rhubarb, strawberry, ginger in any combination.

I can't have bread or butter, my body is broken. Could someone possibly bring themselves to have a doorstep of fresh crusty white with lashings of butter and jam for me? know It's a lot to ask of strangers but you seem a kind bunch and I will allow your choice of preserve

Pistachiois50pmore · 07/02/2018 09:08

Harvey nichols chilli and ginger extra jam which you can get from Ocado.

Tiptree Little Scarlet (whole wild strawberries)

Rose petal

All jams pretty good though. A hard thing to fuck up.

80sMum · 07/02/2018 09:11

Homemade raspberry jam (with all the seeds in) is the best, followed quite a long way behind by homemade blackcurrant jam. All the rest taste only of sugar, imo.

ShatnersWig · 07/02/2018 09:15

Apricot. Without bits in it.

It must be true as I won't eat any other flavour at all.

Juanbablo · 07/02/2018 09:25
  1. Apricot
  2. Blackcurrant
  3. Raspberry
Tobebythesea · 07/02/2018 09:40

Raspberry.

choccybiscuit · 07/02/2018 09:42

Seeded raspberry
Marmite
Lemon curd
Marmite

amusedbush · 07/02/2018 10:05

Raspberry. Although at the Christmas market in Edinburgh last year I tried (I think) a cherry and cointreau jam that was delicious.
