I had been very ill with a chest infection past week. As well as antibiotics and steroids doc prescribed me some codiene to help with chest pain. All good and I'm feeling a lot better. However I've not been to the loo for 5 days now (I think this maybe down to codiene). So this morning I eyed an old bottle of lactulose in cupboard and took a swig. Nothing happened in terms of going loo. But I am now in the most incredible pain. I can't stand up straight. My tummy is hard and round. Drank so much water but not helping. It's just all trapped wind, it's everywhere, mainly under my ribs and shoulders.

Please don't knock me whilst I'm down I know I'm an idiot for drinking the stuff, how can I help this and quick??

Lie on the floor on your stomach? Touch your toes a few times?

tiggerbounce77 · 05/02/2018 18:38

Try a long soak in a warm bubble bath

Hoppinggreen · 05/02/2018 18:39

Peppermint tea and lying on your tummy

Fueledwithfairydustandgin · 05/02/2018 18:40

Lie on your left side

GeneHuntsMistress · 05/02/2018 18:41

Get someone to pull your finger - worked every time for my dad.

Seriously, keep moving around as much as possible, it’s the best way. Lots of surgeries causing trapped wind for experience. Also peppermint tea.

Lowdoorinthewal1 · 05/02/2018 18:41

Happy baby yoga pose- always a winner.

ScreamingValenta · 05/02/2018 18:44

IBS sufferer here who is familiar with The Bloat. Drink peppermint tea and try massaging your stomach very gently. Try taking a 'squat' type posture. A hot water bottle might ease the discomfort.

CondimentQueen · 05/02/2018 18:44

Can anyone get you some Windeze? Amazing stuff.

I had codeine after my c-section and it took 9tsps of lactulose to get my bowels moving. Good luck!

GertrudeCB · 05/02/2018 18:44

Bum in the air. Wink

WeirdCatLady · 05/02/2018 18:45

Lie on your tummy if you can x

expatinspain · 05/02/2018 18:47

Look up abdominal massage for constipation. Do this and it will make you go to the loo and the wind will clear up.

Jamiefraserskilt · 05/02/2018 18:47

Lie face down, bring your knees in, put you butt in the air and after a few minutes, pull your tummy in and out. Relax your bum then push.
Just don't do it in front of your mil!

ICanStandtheHeat · 05/02/2018 18:47

Had the hot bath earlier.

Led on left side rocking now on bed :(

Walk. Go up and down the stairs. Lie on your back and bicycle your legs. Lie on your left side and bring your knees up. Eat sprouts or curried eggs Wink.

DixieFlatline · 05/02/2018 18:47

IME Movicol (other brands are available) is far better than lactulose. Lactulose does nothing for me.

ICanStandtheHeat · 05/02/2018 18:48

Ok changed pose looking at abdominal massage whilst lying on tummy. It's quiet painful on front but I'll do whatever it takes

HeyRoly · 05/02/2018 18:49

Lactulose gives you the most AWFUL wind. Horrible stuff.

Get some Movicol OTC. It's a stool softener and you'll definitely need it. Get three or four sachets down you and don't leave the house Grin

ICanStandtheHeat · 05/02/2018 18:49

I will never touch lactulose again after this

Stretch your arms above your head. I was told this by a nurse when I had my gallbladder out. It really did help with trapped wind and I didn’t have any of the shoulder pain people said I could expect.

Nomad86 · 05/02/2018 18:51

Lie on your back, knees to your chin. Failing that, get on all fours, bum in the air, head down and arch your back.

Unihorn · 05/02/2018 18:51

I was taking about ten Rennie's a day after my caesarean. It was the only thing to alleviate the pain in my shoulder.

T2517 · 05/02/2018 18:52

Black coffee. Like all coffee and a tiny bit of water. That’ll get you going.

treeofhearts · 05/02/2018 18:54

Get on hands and knees. Lower onto elbows and place your forehead on the floor. Arse in the air. Keep body straight. Then slowly rock backwards to scrunch tummy up while keeping arse skyward. Hold position for 10 seconds. Rock back to previous position with head down and belly straight. Hold for ten seconds. Repeat until gas is forthcoming.

Believeitornot · 05/02/2018 18:54

I used to get on my knees, lean forward elbows on the floor and lower my chest and wiggle my arse about. Used to take a few goes but helped.

Lucisky · 05/02/2018 18:57

Movicol will be your friend. I have had to take a lot of codeine pain killers in the past, and almost ended up with impacted faeces. You can mix up a jug of it and drink it over a day (the instructions are on the box), it will really shift it, but, don't leave the house! This doesn't solve your wind problem though, hope that clears. I speak as someone who mistook indigestion for a heart attack, so I know how painful these things can be.
