I had been very ill with a chest infection past week. As well as antibiotics and steroids doc prescribed me some codiene to help with chest pain. All good and I'm feeling a lot better. However I've not been to the loo for 5 days now (I think this maybe down to codiene). So this morning I eyed an old bottle of lactulose in cupboard and took a swig. Nothing happened in terms of going loo. But I am now in the most incredible pain. I can't stand up straight. My tummy is hard and round. Drank so much water but not helping. It's just all trapped wind, it's everywhere, mainly under my ribs and shoulders.

Please don't knock me whilst I'm down I know I'm an idiot for drinking the stuff, how can I help this and quick??

I get constipated from codeine (I take 8 zapain a day along with a shed load of others). In your position I would actually take MORE lactulose. My stomach starts to swell and go hard as it's working, I then take more, then when I'm about to burst, bang- out of the other end it's all comes. Then relief!!!
Trust me!!!!!

Download yoga monkey apo. Download common digestive problems within the app. Its a 15 min sequence of poses and works like a charm.

ElderflowerWaterIsDelish · 05/02/2018 19:39

Plenty of water based fruit (melon, oranges, grapes etc) and drink plenty of pure orange juice

The codeine has probably dried things up inside and bonded you up, the water from the fruit will soften and move it along...

But on a serious note, if you can't go , you may need to see a dr, (have you tried suppositories from the chemist?)

Sweetpea55 · 05/02/2018 19:41

Lie on your left side with your knees up. Then roll over to your right side. Still with your knees bent.
After a few mins roll onto your back and keep your knees bent. Expell away

MrsMoastyToasty · 05/02/2018 19:47

Liquorice has a slight laxative effect.

Strangely enough when I got the pain in the shoulders like you're experiencing I used deep heat spray and shortly after was rewarded with a real door rattling fart.

IsItSummerYet2018 · 05/02/2018 19:49

Peppermint tea. Works wonders.

vespertillio · 05/02/2018 19:53

Eat pineapple! Always gets things moving........and another vote for peppermint - colpermin can be great: www.ibstales.com/colpermin.htm

goldangel · 05/02/2018 19:55

Have you tried a glycerin suppository, should get you going in minutes!

JeremiahBackflip · 05/02/2018 20:02

Lie in the recovery position.
Or downward dog then forward bend to touch your toes. Then downward dog. Then back to touch your toes.
Rub your stomach in a clockwise way, that helps move things.

Deflatine is better than windeze.

redwineismine · 05/02/2018 20:08

Op, last year I had the most horrendous wind pain ever! Was in agony for 2 days tried all the usual fart inducing remedies, and did some tiny farts but ended up ringing out of hours as I thought I was going to explode. Turned out it was a chest infection! Que embarrassment from me telling the doc I thought I just needed a big fart! Just commenting as you said you have a chest infection?? Where is your pain? Mine was in my left hip! Which then moved into my left shoulder. I Totally didn’t connect it to a chest infection as I didn’t feel chesty etc and I have asthma so well used to the symptoms.

ICanStandtheHeat · 05/02/2018 20:45

Ok we're rocking I'm farting with all these stretches and massages. I had to pass on tea earlier but managing to eat a little now. Still feel really gripe'y and still no poo but so much better than a couple of hours ago

Ooh glad you have lift off! Keep going - trapped wind is bloody horrible!

kaytee87 · 05/02/2018 20:57

Massage your lower stomach firmly in a clockwise direction.

kaytee87 · 05/02/2018 20:58

Drink warm water rather than straight out the tap. Half boiled half cool.

Elledouble · 05/02/2018 21:04

Camel Pose

Always a risky one for me in yoga classes Blush

FiveLittlePigs · 05/02/2018 21:07

Have a shower and aim warm water at your bum. You'll be sorted quicker than you know.

coffeecuppa · 05/02/2018 21:12

Bless you, it's rotten. I've had IBS for years and years - random extreme bloating that can't be pinned down to a particular food or drink.

My go-to is 'health salts' (I have Morrisons own, they help settle the upper tract and eventually work their way down). I sit on the very edge of my bed and lie down, so my knees are bent and feet are on the floor but my torso is flat. I then rub/massage my stomach (quite hard) in large, slow circular clockwise motions, paying particular attention to the area below and to the left of my belly button (from my own perspective looking down. Fun fact: this works on kids too, I can often get my toddler to fart/poo by rubbing his tummy there!).

Trashboat · 05/02/2018 21:16

Get in a deep warm bath, get your legs under you, kneel or squat. Massage stomach. Get out drop head to knees rotate your hips around with bum in the air.
Get back in the bath and repeat.

Dunno about a fart, I would need a kip after all that!!

ICanStandtheHeat · 05/02/2018 21:16

Wow redwine that's interesting. Put it down to wind because of the lactulose but maybe could be related to chest. Think it is wind I'm burping too now. Must admit feel a lot better. Been farting lots, luckily for the family they don't smell at all. Just need to have a poo now. Tomorrow's day 6.

And it's times like this that I bloody love Mumsnet!

Buscopan is good when I'm having an attack of ibs. and peppermint tea

Fontella · 05/02/2018 21:22

Get someone to pull your finger - worked every time for my dad

Hahahaaaa - I just exploded with laughter and my daughter came rushing in to see what was up!

PizzaPower · 05/02/2018 21:30

I feel for you OP. I ended up in hospital with constipation as a side effect of other meds I was on.
The Consultant put me on the Movicol challenge! 5 sachets in a litre of water. Repeat 4 hours later. It was a bloody relief when it finally worked!

RibenaMonsoon · 05/02/2018 21:35

DH was similar with codeine. Take it with ibuprofen. The anti inflammatory helps with the constipation. Also drink your body weight in water. It will help to no end!

I hope you poo soon Smile

ICanStandtheHeat · 05/02/2018 22:10

Ok I've bought some movicol from boots.com and paid for next day delivery. So will do that 5 sachets in 1 litre tomorrow. Does it not give you the massive wind / gripes then? X
