I had been very ill with a chest infection past week. As well as antibiotics and steroids doc prescribed me some codiene to help with chest pain. All good and I'm feeling a lot better. However I've not been to the loo for 5 days now (I think this maybe down to codiene). So this morning I eyed an old bottle of lactulose in cupboard and took a swig. Nothing happened in terms of going loo. But I am now in the most incredible pain. I can't stand up straight. My tummy is hard and round. Drank so much water but not helping. It's just all trapped wind, it's everywhere, mainly under my ribs and shoulders.

Please don't knock me whilst I'm down I know I'm an idiot for drinking the stuff, how can I help this and quick??

Read the “DTD worst comments” thread. Made me laugh so much on the bus I could have inflated the Hidenburg with some bum trumpets.

Fluffyunicorns · 05/02/2018 18:59

Kneel down with forehead on floor and bum in the air! It worksGrin

RJnomore1 · 05/02/2018 19:00

Get someone to wind you the way you would a baby.

FrostiesMum · 05/02/2018 19:00

Another vote for peppermint tea. Saved me after DS was born. Fuck me did that hurt. Nothing but sympathy for you Flowers

Mumsymcmumface · 05/02/2018 19:00

Go and find a nice quiet library.

I can never spend more than five minutes in one of those places without needing to do the biggest loudest farts imaginable.

Hope this helps.

OutnumberedByFurchesters · 05/02/2018 19:01

Lemon ans ginger tea with a little bit of honey has been my friend when I get horribly bloated with pain at my time of the month.

The old bum up pose is also a winner.

Meredith501 · 05/02/2018 19:03

Sit on the edge of the toilet and rock back and forth. Worked every time when I had trapped wind during pregnancy.

stripytopspottypants · 05/02/2018 19:05

Forearms and knees, bum in the air, rock. Drink peppermint tea and repeat!

EduCated · 05/02/2018 19:06

Sip warm, plain water. Keep moving. Last time I had horrific wind after accidentally something I’m intolerant to, I found alternating between lying on my front with my knees tucked right up under me, then thrusting my arse in the air (probably had some fancy yoga name, but just wave it about as high as you can with your knees and elbows on the floor) eventually worked.

Actually, I seem to remember I had a thread on here and was coached through it by some lovely MNers Grin The abdominal massage is also good (again was recommended on here)

In general, keep moving. If you can go for a brisk, stomp walk, or find a handy trampoline, that helps!

confusedandemployed · 05/02/2018 19:07

Bum in the air always works for me. And weirdly, (this is actually REALLY weird) going into the bathroom and reading the blurb on the shampoos, shower gels etc I've got in there. For some reason this always gets my innards going!

BertieBotts · 05/02/2018 19:08

You need to squat on the toilet. Use a child's step stool or if you don't have one, something like a shoebox, or a pile of books will do.

EduCated · 05/02/2018 19:08

Also, question for those knowledgable about Movicol - I know it’s availavle over the counter, but does that mean I can just rock up and buy it? I had some on prescription a while back and think I could use some again, and seems a waste to go to GP. Do I just ask for it? Will they say no? Blush

BertieBotts · 05/02/2018 19:08

Erm - I mean, you sit normally on the toilet, but you put your feet on the step. It helps.

Abracadabraapileofbollocks · 05/02/2018 19:10

Get in a deep warm bath, get your legs under you, kneel or squat. Massage stomach. Get out drop head to knees rotate your hips around with bum in the air.
Get back in the bath and repeat.
If you struggle to do the bum in the air sit on the toilet or the edge of the bed and reach for your toes.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 05/02/2018 19:10

Margot DH and DS2, the expert farters in this house, suggested sprouts! 😂

barefoofdoctor · 05/02/2018 19:12

Lie on your tummy with your bum in the air or massage between your thumb and Peter Pointer fingers in a circular motion. Good luck! Xxx

Abracadabraapileofbollocks · 05/02/2018 19:13

Oh tea. Drink warm tea redbush tea is especially effective for me!
You can also put a hotwater bottle on your tummy the rest of the time (not much use in the bath).

NewBrian · 05/02/2018 19:15

I lay on my stomach with my arse in the air Blush.

Lucisky · 05/02/2018 19:15

Educated - I bought a box the other day at Tesco pharmacy, it was 14 quid odd, but yes, you can buy it over the counter. I much prefer it for constipation that senakot as it doesn't give you (well me anyway) those awful griping pains.

PrimalLass · 05/02/2018 19:17

Coffee and a walk. Just don't be too far from home.

Gingaaarghpussy · 05/02/2018 19:18

I find curling round a pillow on my knees rocking in all sorts of directions and muttering ow a lot, helps. Plus ANYTHING with peppermint in.

Bratsandtwats · 05/02/2018 19:20

Lie on your left side

Definitely this. It's what's recommended after a colonoscopy to help pass the gas used in the procedure.

WhiteWalkersWife · 05/02/2018 19:26

Lie on your back and rock backwards and forwards. If you get agonisingly desperate then i always found a finger up the bum pressing up into the blockage starts the process. Or suppositries if you have them.

Usuallytootiredbuthappyanyway · 05/02/2018 19:31

Gently lean into something that presses into your tummy, my sink is the perfect height!

moofolk · 05/02/2018 19:32

Strong black coffee. Cigarettes also good but not advisable if you're not a smoker ATM!
