To have warmed to Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall

I am old enough to remember the Diana years really clearly, including Charles & Diana’s wedding.
At the time I thought Camilla was awful “there were 3 of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded” said Diana, the media minx.
All 3 players, Diana, Charles & Camilla were victims of the protocols of the time, ie the future Queen needed to basically be a Virgin, & Charles & Diana basically had an arranged marriage, which just didn’t work out, but due to their position they weren’t allowed to quietly go their separate ways.
Charles & Camilla have —officially— been together over 20 years. Camilla has kept her head down & they look like a very happy couple.

I don’t know about the political ramifications of Camilla being queen or not. But as a person, she seems ok.

I'm a republican but I've always mildly liked Camilla - however, I've always strongly disliked Diana.

ButteredScone · 04/02/2018 09:21

Yep, I have warmed to her too. People mellow - her and me!

WhooooAmI24601 · 04/02/2018 09:22

Ah I always felt a little sorry for her; she was vilified in the press in the Diana days and it often felt a bit spiteful.

She seems as courteous and as well-behaved as the rest of the Royal family. I'd like to see her made Queen Consort if Charles takes the throne.

juddyrockingcloggs · 04/02/2018 09:23

I like Camilla too.

ElderflowerWaterIsDelish · 04/02/2018 09:23

I really like Camilla too, she seems more relaxed and suited to the royal family than Diana did,

x2boys · 04/02/2018 09:27

i was never a big Diana fan anyway i think she was manipulative and played the press to suit herself ,although it was of course tragic that she dies so young,Camilla it appears keeps a low profile .

Ellybellyboo · 04/02/2018 09:27

I've always quite liked her.

I never really bought into the Diana is a saint stuff.

LadyCassandra · 04/02/2018 09:28

She looks like she'd be a lot of fun. I've always quite liked her, but then I was never a fan of Diana, she was badly treated, but played the media far too well.

PanannyPanoo · 04/02/2018 09:30

I had friends who worked for her 30 years ago. They all said she was a kind, friendly lady and enjoyed working for her.

Callamia · 04/02/2018 09:31

I like Camilla. She does support for domestic violence charities, and I think is probably good fun to hang out with.

Shocking taste in men ;) but I think she’s a very healthy and sane addition to the royal family.

SurfnTerfFantasticmissfoxy · 04/02/2018 09:31

In person, one to one, she is an absolutely lovely lady with a cracking sense of humour and a very kind heart.

AnnaMagnani · 04/02/2018 09:31

I've always liked her. She seems very sensible, not least turning Charles down first time round.

She comes across well, she and Charles look happy.

Plus osteoporosis when she first took it up was very much, not a trendy cause and she has done loads of work for it.

LifeBeginsAtGin · 04/02/2018 09:35

I like her too. She looks the part of wife of the King. I don't know if she (and/or the Palace) have deliberately kept a low profile in order be accepted by the public or whether, once they could be together, they just settled down.

I did read they lived apart a lot but my DH and I would have a fantastic marriage if I didn't have to live with him so much. DH would have a batchelor pad with his gadgets and my house would be clean with candles and shit Grin

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 04/02/2018 09:36

I am not a massive fan of the royals tbh, but I always think Camilla comes across really well. It was a sin, the position the three of them were put in tbh. How nice it is that the younger generations seem to have a little bit more freedom.

greenlanes · 04/02/2018 09:37

I was very angry at Charles and Camilla for their ongoing affair during his marriage. Diana was very young (and naive like most of us would be at 19). I do think the affair contributed towards her mental and emotional state. She was having to live all of that in the public eye.

Basically Charles was a weak man who wouldnt stand up against the conventions of the day. He should have married Camilla and been done.

But back to your OP. Like you I have mellowed towards Camilla (if I dont think about the cheating and the affair). She seems to do a lot of good charity work (much unsung and unnoticed) and they do seem very happy together. Including the whole family who accept her. So she has matured and become less selfish.

ivykaty44 · 04/02/2018 09:38

I trusty think it was such a bloody shame Charles was prevented from marrying camilla in the first place

As another poster states she is much better suited to royal life

And Charles- he loved her and was manipulated into marrying another

What ifs....

JJPP123 · 04/02/2018 09:39

Of all the Royal Family, Camilla gives the impression she would be the most fun to spend some time with. I am republican but I think they've transitioned her very well into her role. I also think that she should be allowed the title Queen when the time comes. Divorces are so common place now, sadly so are affairs. Many of us have friends or family members who didn't get together in the best of circumstances but we love them all the same. I don't know why every one gets so morally superior when it comes to Charles.

isitfridayyet1 · 04/02/2018 09:41

No still can't warm to her 😒

Viviennemary · 04/02/2018 09:43

No I have not warmed to her and never will.

CrazyExIngenue · 04/02/2018 09:43

I'm looking forward to how they portray her on the Crown...when will that be I wonder, season 6 -7?

Battleax · 04/02/2018 09:46

I like her. I don't know why you'd need to "warm" to her. All her bad press stemmed from a woman with a galloping personality disorder calling her dog.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 04/02/2018 09:47

I have not warmed to her.

And I agree she has terrible taste in men.

'a galloping personality disorder'??

Really?

What an ignorant, offensive statement.

AlbertaSimmons · 04/02/2018 09:50

Apparently she’s very lazy and very grand. They don’t live together, which seems to work very well for them, and wouldn’t have married if left to their own devices. Andrew and Fergie OTOH, aren’t married and do live together. The whole set up ( the RF) is an outdated con and should be abolished so that the poor unfortunates who are captive in it can be returned to the wild IMO.
