Just watched the clip of Jacob rees mogg at Bristol university, when a few momentum activists try to cause havoc and stop him from talking

Whatever anyone thinks of this man, I have to say he was pretty gutsy going up to them, considering they are all hiding behind Balaclavas and scarves and there wasn't any security there.
Most politicians wouldn't have gone near them, let alone try to talk to them

I like him. Yes his views are controversial and I don't agree with some of them, but at least he stands up for what he believes in

Extreme views and parties will destabilise the country, that is fine for all the anarchists (and some students) but for those of us simply trying to raise a family and live a happy life we need a grown up in charge.

This is exactly how I feel. I think the silent majority who reject extremism (and yes most of the PLP I'm looking at you) need to stand up and be counted. But most people seem to be afraid of challenging the far left for fear of being branded far right.

makeourfuture · 03/02/2018 09:30

then by extension you must equally condemn the antifa/momentum thugs

Antics and momentum are not associated.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 03/02/2018 09:30

We have to be careful of letting these sorts of biases affect things.

Unless they're biases against Catholics or other Christians. Because they're okay.

C8H10N4O2 · 03/02/2018 09:30

Diane Abbott is being paid a lot of money to do a job that a lot of people don't think she's equipped to do

Yeah these uppity black women who think they can do well paid jobs.

Her academics and past record are as good as any of the public schoolboys.

You may not agree with her politics but that is political difference not a competency issue.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 03/02/2018 09:32

Antics and momentum are not associated

O rilly?

No. Diane Abbott fucked up on live television several times. And as a white mother, I found her hypocrisy about her child's schooling and her subsequent comments about West Indian mothers and white people playing divide and conquer to be extremely offensive and not at all a suitable way for an MP and even shadow Home Secretary to think. She showed appalling lack of judgment.

That's why I don't think she's fit to do the job.

Her race and sex are irrelevant, save for the times when she clumsily shoehorns them in to justify herself!

woodhill · 03/02/2018 09:32

Yes momentum seem pretty intolerant and fascist.

makeourfuture · 03/02/2018 09:32

Diane Abbott gets a lot of things incredibly wrong and she deserves mocking

Please. This is not the way forward.

Brokenbiscuit · 03/02/2018 09:32

I loathe him. But the way he was treated was outrageous- and I think he was brave to handle it the way he did. The democratic process is precious.

^This.

AreYouOrHaveYouEverBeenATERF · 03/02/2018 09:33

I dislike the far left as much as the far right. I hate any extreme - so obviously I'm feeling fairly disconcerted about the current political landscape.

Whoever it was in those balaclavas (I assume it was Momentum) have done themselves no favours at all. They made JRM look good.

Wearing a balaclava and shouting 'no debate' is not good political discourse. Idiots.

Rebeccaslicker · 03/02/2018 09:34

See above. She's bright. She's hard working. Her constituents seem happy enough, overall, albeit a donkey in a red rosette would probably get in there!

But I think she'd be a terrible Home Secretary. The fact that you felt the need to mention "uppity black women" is appalling and you should have a serious word with yourself about those assumptions about other posters.

BertrandRussell · 03/02/2018 09:34

“then by extension you must equally condemn the antifa/momentum thugs”

I condemn thugs.

Why are you grouping antifa and momentum?

rocketgirl22 · 03/02/2018 09:34

The fact that JRM was attacked, and had men in balaclavas going for him (they could have had weapons/knives on them - JRM wouldn't have had any idea at the time, so surely a pretty dangerous and awful situation to be in) and he STILL went ahead and carried out his speech anyway says everything you need to know about the man.

JRM for PM - and I hope people come to see that he is a brave and courageous man and one could bring some standards back to our country.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 03/02/2018 09:34

Antics and momentum are not associated.

I asked if you condemned their actions.

Do you?

Rebeccaslicker · 03/02/2018 09:34

But make - you are refusing to condemn what happened to JRM. Even though you say mocking isn't the way forward for DA. There is zero consistency on the far left, it seems.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 03/02/2018 09:35

You may not agree with her politics but that is political difference not a competency issue

Yes, but not being able to handle basic maths or answer simple questions is.

I agree she is highly intelligent and I really admire her for doing things in her education which were groundbreaking for a black woman at the time. But academic intelligence doesn't necessarily translate to political competence.

And she has also said some incredibly prejudiced things that a white politician would have been hounded out of office for.

Globetrotter100 · 03/02/2018 09:36

WTF opening post has a link to breitbart stooge as news? JRM isn't "courageous", he just knows how to endear himself on camera to the average forelock-tugging racist that's too dim to work out his lies are mugging the country and its children's futures for his hedge fund career and direct personal wealth gain...if it wasn't so sad it would be screamingly funny. IMHO..

BertrandRussell · 03/02/2018 09:37

“Unless they're biases against Catholics or other Christians. Because they're okay.”

Eh?

psychomath · 03/02/2018 09:37

make, regardless of who these people turn out to be, do you think they were wrong to try and disrupt the event like this?

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 03/02/2018 09:37

WTF opening post has a link to breitbart stooge as news?

If you're uncomfortable with the original link, fear not! It's all over MSM now so you can see/read it there instead.

makeourfuture · 03/02/2018 09:38

Whoever it was in those balaclavas (I assume it was Momentum

There is no indication that these people were associated with momentum.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 03/02/2018 09:38

makeourfuture, if a Tory politician got things as wrong as Diane Abbott does you would be shouting it from the rooftops. Let's not forget you are defending a group violently attacking an MP just for speaking here, whilst in the same breath claiming that a Labour politician who repeatedly publicly fucks up should be immune from criticism.

rocketgirl22 · 03/02/2018 09:41

globetrotter

JRM was trying to endear himself to the camera??

This is seriously way off to be ridiculous was that before or after he was being attacked by the cowards in black?

JRM is many things, but he is not does not lie, he has been very open about his views (popular or otherwise) and to say that anyone who likes/supports is a 'racist' is just stupid and not worthy of any kind of response.

Perhaps you are one of the thugs no?
You don't seem to have much to say about their disgusting behaviour.

makeourfuture · 03/02/2018 09:41

Incidentally, Abbott's abuse has been online

Online abuse, while not as visible as this scuffle, is just as good.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 03/02/2018 09:42

Nothing to do with Momentum eh makeourfuture?
