Just watched the clip of Jacob rees mogg at Bristol university, when a few momentum activists try to cause havoc and stop him from talking

Whatever anyone thinks of this man, I have to say he was pretty gutsy going up to them, considering they are all hiding behind Balaclavas and scarves and there wasn't any security there.
Most politicians wouldn't have gone near them, let alone try to talk to them

I like him. Yes his views are controversial and I don't agree with some of them, but at least he stands up for what he believes in

cardibach · 05/02/2018 20:36

Sorry, haven’t had time to check if someone else has posted this, but this puts a different slant on things zelo-street.blogspot.co.uk/2018/02/rees-mogg-lied-about-white-shirt-man.html

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 05/02/2018 20:42

It puts no different slant on anything at all.

The facts remain the same - a shouty masked up mob group of twats disrupted the speech.
JRM went up to them & tried to engage with them.
They were unable to do anything other than carry on ranting.

White shirt man got pushy & acted the twat himself (this was clear from the start) - rest of masked 'protesters' also being pushy twats.

Girl gets caught in middle (no punch thrown - that is clear in footage).

Fracas ends.

Dipitydoda, I think outlawing momentum wouldn't help, just force it underground. I am old and not too clever, but would anyone agree when I say they remind of the Militant Tendency of The 1980 Labour party. Liverpool and someone Hatton, sacking workers to fight with Thatcher's Tories.
Like I don't approve of BNP/NF I think it's better to keep them in the open, they usually say/do something stupid/offensive on both sides.
Yes arrest and punish both lots when they break the law. I think hecklers should have the courts,as should the man who hit the woman, you don't hit ladies( was told that at 5, I haven't hit one ever)
My History O level taught me the Far left/right are fairly interchangeable same tactics and often same sad outcomes. I may be wrong but didn't Hilter & Stalin kill similar numbers of innocent people in their times. Might be wrong.
I think was is so sad at present, that both sides are slightly clueless. I know I voted remain, but reading Faith, Corcory, Wrongtrousers and co on EU threads, gives me hope, I hope the middle 80% of Britain can find away through it. I would also hope JRM (yes him) Boris and Gove, with David Davis admit they don't have all the answers and could drop the politic macho and ask Frank Fields, Giselle Stuart and Mr Mann MP to sit around a table and get a plan for us all. I hope even Faith/corcory/wrongtrousers and surferjet wouldn't see that as selling out Brexit, but giving a slight remainer some hope that it will be okay.
I think it is time for us to unite and kick out far left and right once and for all. Not sure it would happen

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 05/02/2018 20:48

My History O level taught me the Far left/right are fairly interchangeable same tactics and often same sad outcomes.

Yep - two sides of the same coin.

I despise the far right and equally the far left - thankfully the majority are not like them & are perfectly reasonable.

Terftastic · 05/02/2018 20:49

Oh I remember Derek Hatton!

(Also old) Grin

I can't be arsed to google - but was it the brown shirts or the black shirts that Oswald Mosely's lot wore? Anyway - a simple fix to that was to outlaw the wearing of political uniforms.

That and the battle of Cable St, maybe a few other things, and then WW2 agains the Nazis pretty much saw that far right nonsense off for a couple of generations.

I had a slight feeling that wearing masks on political demos was outlawed at some point - but maybe they just talked about it. I think the banning of face-coverings might be an idea. I have no objection to Momentum as a political grass roots movement - but I don't like the balaclavas.

Thanks Faith, I will look in to it. I am so slow to type, as well as not too clever you move onto quickly. I post to long too.
Rufus and you sound intelligent, must be a female thing, I am extremely shy in real life, wouldn't say boo to a goose really, unless I know you. So totally out my comfort zone, thank for being gentle with me.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 05/02/2018 21:01

You caught me in a reasonable mood user.
You're lucky WinkGrin

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 05/02/2018 21:04

I would say boo to a goose

Assuming it was in a pen...they are evil buggers

I know what you mean user but in real life i am much louder Smile

Its just i type slowly as well...threads just run away with me

user1471450935 · 05/02/2018 21:06

Rufus- we are a dog family, cairn terrier bitch( can I say that on mumsnet) she is very strong willed. Bites too. Grin
Faith I think you are completely correct, 95% of Britains would condemn both the far right/left.
Terf I could ask Ds1 he's a police cadet and has helped with riot/firearms training, he is a very good rioter/cerly youth, well according to his group leader, when nominated for cadet of year( didn't win, second still proud dad) But sure there's pictures of him in hat and scares, so may not be.
I wonder what would happen to the middle class protesters outside closing Hospitals/Farmer's protesting outside Tesco/waitrose for better prices, or would they freeze or have to only do in spring&summer months. Could be fun to see.

user1471450935 · 05/02/2018 21:20

I milked cows for 12 years from being 14, Geese are the best guard beasts of all, sod dogs. We had to carry a plastic spade at all times, as the would attack fro no where.
Faith your scaring me now Grin
Can I offer Cake , Brew, Wine or Gin to everyone who has posted on this thread as peace offering.
I am more a Bitter or mild drinker, cider if all else fails myself. Can't drink Gin, rough night at 19, when 3 girls and me and two mates drink 4 bottles of gin to one bottle of tonic water, we didn't know at time, can't stand smell ever since. Can now cope buying wife Gin slings but that's it.
Ps is the Brexit Arms still going, do the same exiter's post. I haven't look for a while, if you do Faith I may come and lurk again. Possibly say hello, but it's bloody petrifying in there.
Think Faith and biggest bullocks Shock Grin

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 05/02/2018 21:26

It's the same as ever in the Arms - full of goading & circular arguments, you're not missing anything tbh.
Not many leavers bother posting now, it's a bit of an echo chamber.

I've not looked on Red's WM threads for ages now, but they're usually quite good & informative & not adversarial like the usual EU threads.

BrownLiverSpot · 05/02/2018 22:48

Well this turned into a love fest Smile

user1471450935 · 05/02/2018 23:13

Brown
I hope I have proved to some of the doubters that some of us centre leftist supporters, even after a poor start, can be reasonable. I despise both far left/right idiots.
I believe most people want what's best for the country, just have different paths to tread.
I would hope Faith, Rufus and I could get along happy in a pub with cakes and alcohol, may have to keep kittens from our dog though Grin.
Good night, I may speak to you all tomorrow or I will have fond memories of talking to you all. Might see you on other threads or Brexit arms, though don't want to become Faith's stalker.Grin
good night.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 05/02/2018 23:16

HelenaDove, those children were put in care, not adopted. There is a big difference. Incidentally, when that happens there is usually a big back story and it's not a matter of rent arrears.

Have a look at this:

www.nhas.org.uk/docs/NHAS_Homeless_Children_Guide.pdf

Councils can't take children away in this situation unless parents give permission or there is a court order due to safeguarding issues.

No, children are not adopted because their parents are poor.

Dapplegrey · 06/02/2018 00:51

many private school users Sorry Dapplegrey, not all indie user are rich,
User you are mixing me up with someone else, I know not all indie users are rich. Some are on bursaries and scholarships, some have their fees paid by rich relations and so on.
