Just watched the clip of Jacob rees mogg at Bristol university, when a few momentum activists try to cause havoc and stop him from talking

Whatever anyone thinks of this man, I have to say he was pretty gutsy going up to them, considering they are all hiding behind Balaclavas and scarves and there wasn't any security there.
Most politicians wouldn't have gone near them, let alone try to talk to them

I like him. Yes his views are controversial and I don't agree with some of them, but at least he stands up for what he believes in

I was one of the DA defenders and will continue to defend her until she chooses (willingly or otherwise) to no longer be a member of public office

So no matter what she says or does you will always defend her? Seems a very strange stance to take.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/02/2018 17:16

In that case I presume you respect the right of anyone to defend JRM's views?

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 03/02/2018 17:17

MeYouYouMebut you havent posted hid voting record you've posted edited highlights e.g. you say he has consistently voted against an Iraq enquiry which suggests multiple votes however it was one vote on specific aspect not the John Chilcot led enquiry or any other enquiry so your post is very misleading.

PinkertonSmythe · 03/02/2018 17:23

VladmirsPoutine

Her views concerning white people I think I also defend - it wasn't after all anyone white that divided and conquered? Was it not? Do I think we should still be having this conversation in 2018? Most certainly not.

Ah, the old "racism-is-the-worst-thing-in-the-world-unless-it's-against-white-people-in-which-case-it's-fine" trope. Contemptible.

BertrandRussell · 03/02/2018 17:23

"o you defend her despite her comments about white people and Finnish nurses etc? You really don't think she has done anything wrong?"
From what I remember of the Finnish nurses incident (it was more than 2O years ago!) it was something about it being preferable to employ local people and that nurses from Finland were likely to find it hard to work in a multicultural inner city hospital. Not sure what she has said about white people- I'll go and google.

BertrandRussell · 03/02/2018 17:25

"In that case I presume you respect the right of anyone to defend JRM's views?"
I certainly do

I copied and pasted directly from the website. If you disagree with how they categorize people's voting history then feel free to take it up with them. They have been around for a long time. 💁🏻‍♀️

I haven't claimed to have researched it myself. I think it's useful to see how he voted and the TheyWorkForYou website provides that in an easy to read way.

I still don't get why you are so rude about my post when plenty of other posters have made all sorts of sweeping statements.

If you are trying to prove how knowledgeable you are I'm sure there are more constructive ways of doing it without being so rude.

Rebeccaslicker · 03/02/2018 17:33

Interesting, Vladimir. So you think her race is more important than her views, whatever they might be?

Imagine if you were saying that about a white man.

VladmirsPoutine · 03/02/2018 17:39

In that case I presume you respect the right of anyone to defend JRM's views?

Most certainly I do. I happen to think they are terrible and render him a very questionable individual but let's have it out.

Imagine if you were saying that about a white man.

I wonder how you deal with missing the entire point so spectacularly. God forbid a privileged white man who finds himself in public office should ever cope. I think I'll get out my small violin.

VladmirsPoutine · 03/02/2018 17:40

@PinkertonSmythe Yes it is Smile

Battleax · 03/02/2018 17:50

No, it was that if you're going to recruit from abroad, Jamaican nurses would be a better choice than Finnish; Finnish people have probably never touched brown people and shouldn't we be training local people anyway?

She is gaffe prone.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/02/2018 17:51

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one then Vlad as I think racism is wrong whichever way it goes. My MP is a useless idiot. Should I not say that as he's black? (For the record it has nothing to do with his colour, just his inability to do his job, and I also think Corbyn is also a useless idiot)

DA's race is not more important than her views. I don't agree with positive discrimination, I want the best person for the job.

BertrandRussell · 03/02/2018 18:02

"She is gaffe prone."

Really? Why are people still talking about one she supposedly made more than 20 years ago then?

BertrandRussell · 03/02/2018 18:04

"No, it was that if you're going to recruit from abroad, Jamaican nurses would be a better choice than Finnish; Finnish people have probably never touched brown people and shouldn't we be training local people anyway?"
Well, if we are going to employ nurses from abroad, surely Ines from the commonwealth would suit people of the right better than people from Finland?

BertrandRussell · 03/02/2018 18:07

"My MP is a useless idiot. Should I not say that as he's black?"

Of course you can!

PinkertonSmythe · 03/02/2018 18:08

Well, if we are going to employ nurses from abroad, surely Ines from the commonwealth would suit people of the right better than people from Finland?

Does that somehow excuse her from spouting racist shit in your mind?

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 03/02/2018 18:09

MeYouYouMe i agree with you it is a very useful site and gives a useful insight into voting however what you posted was misleading. The site is simplistic in its summarising which is good as it gives a quick overview however it can make it misleading I.E. Uses the word consistently when talking about singular votes. You wrote a long post implying how bad he was using a summary you found on a reputable website however that summary is in part misleading. I'm sorry if you take it personally but I do think it is poor research on your part when using it in this particular thread. I'm not trying to prove I'm knowledgeable what I'm saying is the summary you have used is misleading and it would have been better to link to his actual voting record, most of which I happen, like you im presuming, disagree with.

Battleax · 03/02/2018 18:10

Really? Why are people still talking about one she supposedly made more than 20 years ago then?

I suppose that one sticks in the mind. She called them "blonde, blue-eyed Finns" rather necessarily. It's one of those things that makes you flinch. I wouldn't raise it, but I remember it.

Battleax · 03/02/2018 18:10

UNnecessarily^

malificent7 · 03/02/2018 18:11

Momentum's tactics are bad but im glad someone is prepared to protest against this Dickensian throwback!

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 03/02/2018 18:12

MeYouYouMe and apologies for any offence i certainly didn't mean to be rude or single you out.

Battleax · 03/02/2018 18:16

Well, if we are going to employ nurses from abroad, surely Ines from the commonwealth would suit people of the right better than people from Finland?

Who cares about "people of the right" specifically?

Which immigrants are the "best" immigrants is a murky old subject to go dabbling in for no real reason. I just wish she'd stop that kind of stunt. "White people do.....xyz" being another clanger of the genre. She lets the side down.

bridgetoc · 03/02/2018 18:18

Why are the left so terrified of JRM?

It's not just his political beliefs. It's because he has qualities that most people admire, and he has it in spades.

He is a man of principal.
He is educated and intelligent.
He is very articulate and well spoken.
He is witty, and at times very amusing.
He is self-effacing, polite, and very gracious, even to those he disagress with.

Never underestimate the power of likeability in politics.

If the Tories grow some balls he will be P.M....... Not at the moment, but at some time in the future.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/02/2018 18:22

"My MP is a useless idiot. Should I not say that as he's black?"

Of course you can!

I just wondered @BertrandRussell as Vlad seems to think DA's race is more important than her views and I wondered if it applied to everyone! Smile
