Just watched the clip of Jacob rees mogg at Bristol university, when a few momentum activists try to cause havoc and stop him from talking

Whatever anyone thinks of this man, I have to say he was pretty gutsy going up to them, considering they are all hiding behind Balaclavas and scarves and there wasn't any security there.
Most politicians wouldn't have gone near them, let alone try to talk to them

I like him. Yes his views are controversial and I don't agree with some of them, but at least he stands up for what he believes in

No Vladimir. The only point there is how far you are willing to go to defend someone just because she's black.

Believe me. Nobody at all has missed that.

Thank you for your apology.

Rebeccaslicker · 03/02/2018 18:38

What about thatcher loving brexiteer kemi badenoch? Do you also agree with everything she says just because she's a black woman in politics?

That must be v confusing, trying to agree with her and DA...

larry55 · 03/02/2018 18:42

I live in JRM’s constituency and although I don’t necessarily support all his ideas he is a fantastic MP for this area. We have needed his help with student finance a couple of times with great results. He is very visible and attends lots of events in the area. He has regular surgeries which his predecessor did not so we are grateful to have him as our MP as he has been interested in the constituency.

BertrandRussell · 03/02/2018 18:43

“Does that somehow excuse her from spouting racist shit in your mind?”

I don’t hold any particular brief for Abbott. But I do think she gets disproportionate criticism. And I do think that being a fat black older woman contributes to that. And it is fascinating that people are going on about her being “gaffe prone” on the strength of a 20 year old comment that is capable of several interpretations. If we were slamming her about her decision to send her son to private school I’d be first in the queue.....

Rebeccaslicker · 03/02/2018 18:46

Eh?

It's not just the Finnish nurses comment. It's the West Indian mum comment. It's the divide and conquer comment. It's the appalling maths/lack of preparation/utterly embarrassing performance in the election...

Eltonjohnssyrup · 03/02/2018 18:48

Diane Abbott was my MP for a bit. Constantly losing her travel card, they used to send it back to Dalston Kingsland Station and display it in the window for her to pick up. They must be special ones issued at Westminster because it had little portcullises across the corner of the picture to seal it in instead of the TFL logo.

I have always had my doubts whether a woman who can't be trusted with her own travelcard should be trusted with running the country....

PinkertonSmythe · 03/02/2018 18:49

And it is fascinating that people are going on about her being “gaffe prone” on the strength of a 20 year old comment that is capable of several interpretations.

No, she's being slammed for being “gaffe prone” on the basis of, wait for it ... her many gaffes, both historic and very recent:

talkradio.co.uk/news/private-education-police-officers-and-her-splendid-afro-diane-abbotts-best-or-worst-gaffes

www.bbc.co.uk/news/election-2017-39775693

So it's not just her racist gaffes that are the problem - she's also innumerate and personally hypocritical to boot.

Battleax · 03/02/2018 18:59

And it is fascinating that people are going on about her being “gaffe prone” on the strength of a 20 year old comment that is capable of several interpretations.

No Bert. The use of "prone" references the fact that she's does it repeatedly.

It's annoying that the most high profile black British woman MP keeps doing it because it makes her harder to defend from the dog whistle stuff.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 03/02/2018 19:01

Although, in fairness to Diane, she's not an antisemite. And I couldn't say that with any confidence about the rest of JC's circle.

Rebeccaslicker · 03/02/2018 19:01

Does anyone know whether this was proven true or false?

It made me a bit cynical about the diabetes story. Esp as T2 diabetics rarely get lows so that they need glucose tablets - that's more a T1 issue. Stress normally makes the blood sugar rise in a T2, not fall. And she can't have been claiming she was too high, as she said later that she needed sugar tablets.

Perfectly possible but unusual - which when taken in light of the "sting" makes you a bit cynical!

BertrandRussell · 03/02/2018 19:05

“No Bert. The use of "prone" references the fact that she's does it repeatedly.“

Fair enough. I must have missed them all.

Battleax · 03/02/2018 19:21

If you turn a blind eye to things from your own side that you'd condemn from the opposition, that's the very essence of partiality. I refuse to be partial where these things are concerned.

BertrandRussell · 03/02/2018 19:29

I don't turn a blind eye. I am not a Corbyn fan and am very outspoken about what I think is wrong with the Labour Party. I just don't think DA deserves the slagging off she gets.

Battleax · 03/02/2018 19:29

How can you say what she deserves when you don't remember the incidents in question?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/02/2018 19:31

Does anyone know if Corbyn's had anything to say about he protest?

I can see that several other MPs have commented, but can't find anything from him ...

BertrandRussell · 03/02/2018 19:39

"How can you say what she deserves when you don't remember the incidents in question?"
Well I remember the Finnish nurses incident. The sending her son to private school incident. The screwing up the figures incident........

Battleax · 03/02/2018 19:45

To be accurate you completely MISremembered the Finnish nurse incident. And you're discounting her racial stereotyping...

Not that it matters much anymore. Compared to then, the Party is in complete disarray. I'm close to shredding my membership card.

BertrandRussell · 03/02/2018 19:54

I didn't misremember- I interpreted it differently. But hey ho.

Battleax · 03/02/2018 19:57

Well no you can't choose to remember words as different words because it suits you. She said what she said. No more, no less.

This is exactly how the anti-semitism and trans cult have also taken hold in the Labour Party. You're demonstrating the bien pensant three monkeys routine beautifully.

makeourfuture · 03/02/2018 20:00

specific groups of white people. Not white people in general.

NAWPALT.

makeourfuture · 03/02/2018 20:10

It's annoying that the most high profile black British woman MP keeps doing it because it makes her harder to defend from the dog whistle stuff.

It's like you are holding to a higher standard here because of skin colour. That is just plain shitty.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 03/02/2018 20:16

Still no condemnation of the masked idiots I see make

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 03/02/2018 20:22

Hi make!
Ready to condemn the aggressive, masked shouty-twats & declare support for JRM's right to speak freely?

makeourfuture · 03/02/2018 20:26

Has the knitting society issued their statement yet?
