To think Kate Middleton needs to hire a make up artist

Does she still do her own make up?

It's awful. She either needs lessons or just hire an expert.

David Beckham is a man. How he looks is not and will not ever be a
factor that is used against him.

In which world do you live? You cannot be that naive!

mathanxiety · 01/02/2018 17:17

It will never be used against him. I stand by that.

His appearance will not be evidence to anyone of his worth as a human being. This is because he is a man. Grey hair will be acceptable. A bit of a paunch in his middle years. Beard, moustache, hair long or short or styled/tousled. Wrinkles. None of it will matter. In fact, evidence of him getting old will be celebrated; he will be able to make money sponsoring products until he is in a wheelchair. Even then he will be able to do ads for wheelchairs.

If he were a woman in the public eye his appearance would be minutely picked over and his worth as a human being would be 100% related to that.

If you don't believe me, try turning 50.
Or dare to go out running while slightly overweight.

DakotaWest · 01/02/2018 17:23

Again I completely disagree with you. Appearance matters for men, just as it matters for women. Go on recruitment panels and see if it doesn't.

Where do you even get that men don't get picked on for being overweight? You should read the testimonies from real men, you might learn something. There are many inspirational stories online.

DakotaWest · 01/02/2018 17:27

women as a class owe other women the favour of not behaving like men toward them
complete bollocks. People should behave properly towards other people, gender has nothing to do with it.

mathanxiety · 01/02/2018 17:30

I am sure I would be greatly inspired to see testimonies from members of a class of people who have for centuries been very happy to use the fact of their sex to run roughshod over another class of people.
It would be very moving indeed.

No matter what men look like, they are still going to make more than women once recruited.

Hmm
HoppyHannah · 01/02/2018 17:32

William's make up is dire.

mathanxiety · 01/02/2018 17:34

You seem completely disinclined to believe that women as a class have ever been disadvantaged or oppressed or in any way treated differently by men as a class.

What a pity you choose to see the focus on women's appearance and hence sexual attractiveness, and their availability for sex, as something other than a sign that the patriarchy is alive and kicking women in the face unimpeded. It's not at all a matter of individual politeness.

DakotaWest · 01/02/2018 17:35

No matter what men look like, they are still going to make more than women once recruited.

The guys in my team will be delighted to hear that Smile

mathanxiety · 01/02/2018 17:36

Congratulations to you.

Maybe one day you will experience the real world.

DakotaWest · 01/02/2018 17:37

sorry, I am being dragged into the rambling of someone who calls themselves a "feminist" which is a complete waste of my time. Apologies, I shouldn't have started to replying to the nonsense being written here, and left. My mistake, I leave now!

Lweji · 01/02/2018 17:40

I couldn't be less of a fan of William, but what on earth is the poor guy supposed to do about that?

A Trump woven combover, of course.

herethereandeverywhere · 01/02/2018 17:45

KM has not asked no, but the closest thing she has to a job is to spend public money parading round in finery and waving at people. An integral part of her 'role' is her look - it is out there asking to be viewed in a way that the ordinary woman in the street is not (and I'm not passing comment on any ordinary person, or indeed woman, on the street). She's not a poor victim, she's paid to be the beauty beside the future king. It's publicly acknowledged what that role involves. In my view she could look better than she does.

Lweji · 01/02/2018 17:48

she's paid to be the beauty beside the future king

What a stupid comment.

falang · 01/02/2018 18:19

No she doesn't. She looks fine. Nasty thread.

garlicbreathlovely · 01/02/2018 18:44

She presumably likes her makeup otherwise she'd change it/not wear any or hire a makeup artist. As long as she likes it who cares Confused

Battleax · 01/02/2018 19:02

What a load of bilge. Her job is to turn up, look presentable, do the task in hand (handshakes, photo op, ribbon cutting, speech, church service, whatever) and go home.

herethereandeverywhere · 01/02/2018 19:03

So Lweji, grant me the power of your intelligence and explain why.

The whole, "she's female so you can't criticise how she looks" is just bullshit.

Some people clearly think she looks fine/great/ok/beautiful/whatever. I think she looks a bit shit and could do better all things considered. I'm still really not sure why I'm not allowed to voice that opinion or why it's any less valid than a fawning one.

herethereandeverywhere · 01/02/2018 19:07

.... and for the poster stating S&B was different, here's a great example of an unsolicited opinion on S&B (the one asking whether she's sure she wants to wear the outfit):

wedding outfit

pallisers · 01/02/2018 19:07

she's paid to be the beauty beside the future king

What a stupid comment.

Seriously! Does she get docked wages if she has an off day? If he married a very plain girl who wore bare minimum of make-up, what would have happened? If she develops bad acne suddenly is she fired?

Isetan · 01/02/2018 19:10

OP I hope theres a beter version of you then the one on display on this thread, unfortunately for you, it would take a lot more than perfectly applied slap to improve your personality failings.

ForalltheSaints · 01/02/2018 19:10

Compared to many women I see on a daily basis, I have no issue with the Duchess of Cambridge's make-up. I just feel it sad that even to go down the road, so many women feel it essential to have a lot of make-up.

Lweji · 01/02/2018 19:42

pallisers explained very well why it's a stupid comment.

If anything, her "job" would be to produce an heir. Wink

But William chose to marry her. She's supposed to be his companion in life. Not have a job looking well.
He's the one with the job and it's not looking well either.

JuliannaBixby · 01/02/2018 19:49

That's a shite example for you Here as the rude poster was called out for being a dick.

So essentially your argument seems to be...other people are rude to each other, so I can be rude about people in the public eye?

I mean, obviously you can be, nobody is going to stop you. I just don't get why you (and I mean the general you, not you in particular) so aggressively want to be heard criticising other women.

Lweji · 01/02/2018 20:01

I'm still really not sure why I'm not allowed to voice that opinion or why it's any less valid than a fawning one.

Oh, you are allowed. But so I am. I suppose you're one of those who considers herself a straight talker but can't really take it.

And, you'll notice that fawning is very different from not giving a royal fuck.

I suppose the main problem with the OP is that it doesn't simply comment on how good or bad Kate looks, but mandates that she does better. Just, why? It doesn't affect any of us.

mathanxiety · 01/02/2018 20:13

Toodles, Dakota, sorry you find feminist discourse a waste of your time.

You have the right to have a job and keep it thanks to the efforts of feminists of yore, but never mind...
