to think it's time to bin the word feminism

Good Morning Britain conducted two seperate polls. One asked the public if they identify as a feminist, 85% said no. The other asked if you believe in gender equality, 85% said yes.

Susanna Reid & Charlotte Hawkins, both feminists, stated they are the same thing. Clearly most people don't agree.

Regardless of the dictionary definition, the word "feminism" appears to be tainted. Does the word now do more harm than good by turning off both women and men from ideals we agree upon?

so you're allowed to raise arguments but no-one is allowed to respond? Especially Assaasinated because she was horrible to someone once about something but they have now name changed so we don't know who or about what?

Nope. The complete opposite. Feminist are right because FEMINISM so stop your whinging you stupid man-loving trans-accepting traitors. If you weren't so thick and actually understood feminism you'd be on our side too.

That's the argument I always have to deal with. And I'M the one who can't say shit because I then get asked "Do you not want to vote and get raped instead". What!?

I want equality. For women and men. THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT EQUALITY FUCKING IS. OH GOD! I have better conversations with my 5 month old daughter. They make more sense too.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 04/02/2018 10:17

I hate the way the threads descend...

And im not very keen on the outright lying either

BertrandRussell · 04/02/2018 10:18

“If it's to make everyone feel shit and like they are wrong for not loathing trans people, hating pornography, being housewives and not blaming all men for absolutey everything then it's doing a fucking fine job!”

The problem is that feminists really really don’t say that sort of stuff. Anti feminists say we do but we don’t. It’s the modern equivalent of “women’s libbers burn their bras, wear dungareees, have hairy legs and want history changed to herstory” . That wasn’t true either, but it was a very persistent and damaging narrative.

coconuttella · 04/02/2018 10:20

A key problem with feminism is the term itself... It implies a bias towards women, and an associated bias against men, rather than a focus on equality.

Also, those identifying as feminists tend to be socialists (nothing necessarily wrong with that) who have developed a certain feminist orthodoxy defined by being pro-choice without limits and a strong aversion to any instance of women using their sexuality as part of their work, which many who agree with the basic belief in male/female equality don’t adhere to.

hollowtree · 04/02/2018 10:20

I agree golden. And fwiw I am sorry for being so hostile myself. I've just really hit a point where I've had enough, I haven't bothered to answer back before but now I'm fed up of being wrong when I'm not actually sure what everyone else's 'right' is.

Lethaldrizzle · 04/02/2018 10:22

If it's of any interest my tits are in

BertrandRussell · 04/02/2018 10:23

Not sure equality can be achieved without that bias...........

BertrandRussell · 04/02/2018 10:24

Hollowtree- what do you think you are “being wrong” about?

hollowtree · 04/02/2018 10:27

bertrand You responded to the poster asking how to remove pubic hair with "just don't" which made the poster feel judged and the post go downhill rapidly with people judging any woman who removed body hair.

You are always the first to challenge trans people on feminism chat.

You attacked all porn users on a threat about pornography use and slated the sex industry. When a poster joined to say she was a prostitute and enjoyed her job and it gave her power and control and money you commented "Oh look here comes Belle de Jour" and called her a liar because she wasn't agreeing with your point.

When I contributed to a post saying but not all men were to blame for murder and rape you commented that the majority of violent crimes are committed by men and so they are responsible. When I disagreed with you you again, you personally messaged me to say that we shouldn't discuss anything anymore on a public forum. I replied to you with exactly how I felt and my reasons why and you never bothered to write back.

You are the worst hypocrite.

Lethaldrizzle · 04/02/2018 10:35

Thus may be of timely interest to the anti-fgm brigade. Not sure any tits will be out mind!

It's of absolutely no one's interest whatsoever. The whole point I'm making was that it should be up to the individual and not dictated by anyone else, male or female, where they should be.

You can drop the whole breast thing now, it was one point made upthread among many others. Not sure why you're so fixated on it TBH

BertrandRussell · 04/02/2018 10:47

That is not how that particular incident went. As well you know.

hollowtree · 04/02/2018 10:49

I'm what way exactly was it different?

Lethaldrizzle · 04/02/2018 10:49

Cos they're great!Grin

hollowtree · 04/02/2018 10:51

Actually, I've had enough. I see you've conveniently dodged the rest of my post as well, nicely done.

Actually, I'm done here. Arguing with you is like playing chess with pigeons. Even when you make a smart move they kick the pieces off and shit all over the board.

RatRolyPoly · 04/02/2018 10:58

Grin Grin Grin Excuse me whilst I piss myself (as I too have a five month old DD hollowtree)

BertrandRussell · 04/02/2018 11:00

Hollowtree- do you want me to explain on this thread? I’m happy to , but obviously it’s your choice.

Incidentally, I have only just noticed that you replied to my pm- I don’t look at my inbox very often. I apologize.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 04/02/2018 11:09

I have great tits too lethaldrizzle. Grin

And I'm a SAHM. Which allegedly means feminists kick shit out of me. Except they don't.

hollowtree · 04/02/2018 11:12

Awh bertrand I put loads of effort into that for you ☹

No, no need. As I say I am done. But I am disappointed you ignored the rest of my post. But honestly- I have had enough because I've said my piece.

rat God how hard is life at the moment!?!

Lethaldrizzle · 04/02/2018 11:12

I never met any feminist kick shitters when I was a sahm

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 04/02/2018 11:14

They're probably just mesmerised by our stupendous cleavage...

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 04/02/2018 11:17

certain

Certainly wouldnt be waving my boobs round in public but (more) SAHM (than not) here, shaving, makeup wearing

And well a fucking ware that not all men rape or are violent...luckily i havent read anyone saying they are a feminist saying that

BertrandRussell · 04/02/2018 14:10

“Awh bertrand I put loads of effort into that for you ☹“

You still didn’t answer the question I asked, did you? But hey ho.

Ereshkigal · 04/02/2018 19:42

Also, on the subject of boobs out- at Download festival last year, no bands were allowed to point out women with their tops off for the cameras. The cameras weren't allowed to film them despite women EVERY year trying to get on the Download cams! I've been on them before!

Feminism - it's out of control.

thebewilderness · 04/02/2018 20:00

Are you effing kidding me? The political movement for the liberation of women spends too much time and effort on women's issues and not enough on equality for the men?
