What would you (over)think? (Actually laundry related!)

So I was round at a friend’s house for a catch up on our day off, and we were chatting in her kitchen diner while she carried on wiping sides down etc.
Her washing machine finished its cycle and she bent down and hauled out the contents of the load which was exclusively black/dark grey - jeans, leggings, tights, T-shirts etc; not a colour or pastel in sight.... EXCEPT ... entangled in all this was my DD’s school cookery apron that her DD had borrowed. It’s WHITE AND YELLOW.
I was standing there watching so she had perhaps forgotten that it was in there and couldn’t just stuff it back in so she styled it out “Oh this is yours, I’ll get it dry so you can take it with you.”
Now I know I am very picky when it comes to dividing colours for washing -- those “Chris Martin” coloured T-shirts with white sleeves are my worst nightmare laundry-wise - but... seriously??? Because it wasn’t just a random mixed wash Hmm it was definitely a very dark wash with my DD’s white apron stuffed in.
I’ve obviously got plenty worse things to worry about (oh I really have) but even though we met through school, I did consider her a close friend and she has voiced the same to me. I’ve tried to just forget about it but it keeps coming back to me! Was it really mean of her?
AIBU to take this personally..?

You are massively over-reacting.

Queenoftheblitz · 29/01/2018 21:53

That would piss me off. I wouldn't do what she did. Is it a dirty shade of grey now?

teaandtoast · 29/01/2018 21:54

Was there a colour catcher in there?

SnowannaRainbow · 29/01/2018 21:54

AIBU to take this personally..?

Yes. Maybe her DD chucked it in the drum and she didn't notice it was there, maybe it got mixed in accidentally. I wouldn't be stressing over an apron.

Ollivander84 · 29/01/2018 21:54

I don't separate any of my washing unless it's by accident I end up with a white/lights load. Or if it's something like brand new jeans that might run, I wash them separately

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 29/01/2018 21:54

I wouldn't wash it like that but I do think you're over reacting. I thought you were going to say she'd stolen it!

UnimaginativeUsername · 29/01/2018 21:55

I agree with trills.

peachgreen · 29/01/2018 21:55

Lots of people don't separate their washing. You are hugely overreacting. And I say that as someone who does separate washes for darks, brights, lights, whites, delicates, baby clothes, hot wash whites, cleaning cloths, and towels!

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 29/01/2018 21:57

She fucked up but don’t take it too seriously.

What are you supposed to wash those baseball t shirts with? The sleeves colour or the body colour? DH keeps buying rugby shirts with a white collar, they pose the same dilemma.

Elphame · 29/01/2018 21:58

I've lost count of how many times a light item has sneaked into a dark wash and vice versa

It's only a school apron. Not worth worrying about

Chienrouge · 29/01/2018 21:59

Massively massively overreacting. You really think if she wanted to hurt you/upset you/piss you off in some way, the first thing she’d think would be ‘I know, I’ll put her daughters white apron in with a dark wash’?

Trills · 29/01/2018 21:59

She fucked up but don’t take it too seriously.

Did she though?

We haven't been told that anything bad happened to the apron.

As far as we know the apron is unharmed.

QueenDramaLlama · 29/01/2018 21:59

It could be a lack of care or;

  1. She could have put it in thinking she can give it back to you today thinking you wont mind about the colour of an apron.
  2. Her daughter could have put it straight in the machine if it was sticky/dirty.

I'd think the same, lol, then I'd talk myself down.

AManWalksIntoABarOuch · 29/01/2018 22:00

Is the apron still white and yellow?
If so, move on. This isn't about disrespecting you or not being a good friend.
If it has got discoloured then tell her.

khajiit13 · 29/01/2018 22:00

You're being ridiculous. She probably missed it when loading the washing and was feeling a bit silly so brazened it out. If it looked OK I can see why

SingaSong12 · 29/01/2018 22:01

Was the apron damaged in any way?

MamaDuckling · 29/01/2018 22:01

Is there any chance she was trying to get it washed and dry for you to take away with you (wouldn't want to have you over and not return apron at the same time?)

I separate mine but I can also imagine she might have wanted to get it back to you ASAP if your DD needed it for school.

stickytoffeevodka · 29/01/2018 22:01

Loads of people don't separate their washing - what's the big deal?

Madonnasmum · 29/01/2018 22:04

I'd be miffed!
Who dosnt seperate washes into whites, lights and darks?
Chris Martin tops need a wash with similar types hence they sit in the washbasket for 3 months to allow similar items to build up.

ForgotwhatIcameinherefor · 29/01/2018 22:13

Thanks everyone I will put it to bed then! That’s reassuring I suppose.
Like you peach green I separate into so many washes that for me to do that to someone else’s white garment I could only imagine doing with an evil laugh Hmm but that’s me.
The apron looks really dull now. Not grey but I’d be embarrassed to send DD to school with it. As it turns out thankfully she doesn’t need to wear it any more now --but obv I can’t hand down to younger DD.--

OP posts:
teaandtoast · 29/01/2018 22:14

Isn't there something for colour runs that you could use to rewash the apron?

ForgotwhatIcameinherefor · 29/01/2018 22:15

Thank you Madonnasmum* I am not completely alone!Grin

Nanny0gg · 29/01/2018 23:08

If it's cotton a soak in a mild bleach solution may help.

But I feel your pain.

Queenoftheblitz · 29/01/2018 23:21

Oh she's a slattern. I'm funny about kids school clothes - they should be pristine - even an apron.

PastaOfMuppets · 29/01/2018 23:27

That would surprise me because I separate everything - by colours, textures, liquid/powder type needed, use (eg no underpants and socks together). Can you spray and soak it to get it back to normal?
