I am against people saying unpleasant things about trans people just because they are trans. Those type of comments help no one anymore than calling anyone concerned about women's rights unpleasant things just because of this.

But raising concerns about the impact on others of saying someone with a penis should be able to say they are a woman is not homophobic.

Female prisons don't have 'nonce wings'. Because there are so few female paedophiles and sex offenders. I suppose the female equivalent would be the 'vulnerable prisoners' wing which often means women most at danger of attack. And that really is NOT the place for a TIM, with the most vulnerable women.

There are lots of threads about other males who have committed violent and/or sexual offences against women and children on MN. It's not unusual. They don't all get discussed, simply because it's so very, very common, but MN as a whole is pretty pro discussion of violent male perverts.

This particular individual committed their crimes a few years ago, and I think is only in the news now due to the desire to be moved to a female prison, so it probably wouldn't be a topic for discussion in 2018 without the trans issue no. However, if you think that's in any way a salient point here, then something is wrong with your analysis.

No, weirdly enough because if the so-called transphobes on Mumsnet had their way, male sexual predators such as this person would not be allowed to self-ID into womanhood. His crimes would be recognised for what they are - male pattern sexual offending. And he would be recognised for what he is - a male pattern sexual offender and therefore a man. And nowhere near a women's prison.

You may think you are supporting trans people, but you are not. You are supporting a men's sexual rights political movement. And, by doing so, you're not only throwing women under the bus, you're also throwing genuine and dysphoric trans people under the bus. Because the backlash will come. And it will not be pleasant.
