AIBU Trollhunting is ruining AIBU

I understand troll hunting if the OP is giving dangerous advice. However, increasingly every single poster is being grilled by troll hunters about every aspect of their post. It makes a thread hard to follow and really boring to read.

I don't understand why the troll hunters do it, there is an easy to use report button. I have read several threads in the last week where the OP was subjected to constant snide comments about the veracity of their post. I think if these troll hunters persist then people won't want to post at all.

Oh God yes oysters, huge brackish bogies. It's the emperor's new clothes.

Can we just let things that have irritated us wash over us, please? The thread is getting back on track, we've established that our finest trollhunters are entirely fallible, and we're trying to rebuild and make positive changes.

You don't need a clicky option. You just assign OPs posts a certain colour (I have OP in green, me in pink and MNHQ in blue - everyone else is white)

RedDogsBeg · 31/01/2018 20:31

Are you chanting as well YetAnotherHelen?Grin

TrustNaeFuckerEver · 31/01/2018 20:32

Placemarking ...

(joke)

Those complaining about trollhunting are usually (but not always) the ones posting "Any updates OP?" on obvious bullshit threads. Yes you can argue that 'Elderly Korean Lady Drinking Sangria With Ken Whilst Flexitime CF's Mother Flings Coffee Into Handbags' isn't hurting anyone but there are also some creepy old trolls out there using MN for wankfodder.

Personally I think there should be zero tolerance for bullshit threads even if people are 'spitting their tea out' over them. It just turns MN into a sweary version of Jackanory which is (fucking) pointless.

but scrolling through pages of shit just to get to the OPs update is a PITA.

Especially when they are a one-hit, post and run troll type of poster.

exLtEveDallas · 31/01/2018 20:39

Yeah I hear you. But I find it's not too bad on a phone. Tedious but better than nothing.

Oh actually, while I'm here MNHQ, here's a question: it used to be when I did an AS I could click on the post I was looking for and it would take me directly to it on thread. Now it drops me at the start of the thread. It's a total pain in the arse when a thread is 500+ posts and the one you want is number 480...what's happened there then?

IMightMentionGriddlebone · 31/01/2018 20:41

Eve Yeah, that's been bugging me as well.

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 31/01/2018 20:50

Oh, LtEve, I couldn't ask you to start a thread in Site Stuff, could I? Site Stuff is better dealt with in the day when the Tech team is around and while I've happily just written a plaintive request for the placemarking issue to be dealt with your request is very much their dept... is that okay? We can flag them from there to deal with your question.

TrustNaeFuckerEver · 31/01/2018 20:50

It still works okay for me Eve but I'm on a laptop, not phone.

exLtEveDallas · 31/01/2018 20:54

Will do Helen :)

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 31/01/2018 21:40

cheers my dear!

Trueheart1 · 31/01/2018 23:51

Ladies just to be clear. When this thread fills up, I will not be starting a second one, so feel free to do so. I had no idea my post would result in pages of people being vile to each other. I have no desire to read anymore of it.
My only suggestion for change is could there be different areas for the sites "elders" where entry was only allowed by time served e.g 5 years, 10 years? Then certain groups could keep in jokes and what not.

OP posts:
Aridane · 01/02/2018 00:34

Please let this thread die. OP - what on earth did you advertently unleash?

RustyPaperclips · 01/02/2018 00:42

I suspect that a separate area for 'elders' will just create more division. Plus length of time served does not make a poster more credible than someone who has just signed up

RoseWhiteTips · 01/02/2018 00:54

Ain’t that the truth.

Greensleeves · 01/02/2018 01:00

It would be awful. Worse than Mouldies even.

I think the in-jokes and traditions have their place when oldies encounter one another, and there's bound to be nostalgia. Things change though, that's how it goes.

paxillin · 01/02/2018 01:04

length of time served does not make a poster more credible than someone who has just signed up Indeed not. But after a few months, a truly nasty one will have shown it and can be avoided. Equally, a lovely, usually fun or supportive one on a day off will be known to have a bad day.

paxillin · 01/02/2018 01:06

And it wouldn't be for 'elders'. Just pick a name and stick to it on one topic. It would shut out the goads, they'd have one pop only.

Greensleeves · 01/02/2018 01:08

I doubt there are many oldies who haven't been roasted to a smoking crisp at some point during their years on MN. Oldie doesn't mean wise, nor does it mean well-liked Grin

RustyPaperclips · 01/02/2018 01:09

Good point paxillin. Personally I don't AS and take each thread at face value. I can see both sides to be honest
